The ability to make you believe the pain of spending your whole life obsessing over your parents murder. Bale got it down to an extent and I'm hoping ten years since Daredevil Affleck will be able to do a better job of portraying the inner struggle of that pain. In daredevil he wasn't bad at doing it though, but I'm hoping it's a little better now.

The focus that being Batman is likely a lifelong commitment. At every instance where Bruce is in-the-zone, you should see it in his eyes nothing else really matters but doing his job. Because he has so little to live for otherwise.

Of course certain hurdles and incentives should be thrown his way to make Bruce's arc a conflicting one, but at the end of the day he should always choose Batman.

Batman is about 2 things, fear and rage.

Nolan really explored the fear aspect in Batman Begins, so the Bat-actor has to be able to convincingly play a man who has fears but overcomes them (something that wasn't done in the GL film).

The rage, Bale was the first Batman who really portrayed Batman's fury.
He hates criminals, and that obsession drives his one man war on crime.
Bale does anger brilliantly (because he's got such a crazy temperment)
almost to the point of being OTT. ("Where's the trigger?!")

Personally, I thought Bale nailed it. So the next guy to put on the batsuit
has to be able to be able to portray these not-so-nice aspects of the character and still get us cheering for him.

The ass kicking is important too. Bale looked the part, and could probably
hold his own in a scrap (just based on his craziness alone).

so there you have it, fear, rage and ass-kicking. If Affleck can do all that
he'll be a fine Batman.

I prefer stoicism,@ZZ kicking, and occasional rage. But I feel like Bale did really well with what he was given, and many want him back. That's a good sign.

From your options I picked intensity, as the actor should be really present and in the moment and should be extremely driven and possessed. For intensity, I always go back to Gerard Butler in 300. THAT was one INTENSE performance.

i dont think you can pinpoint 1 characteristic batman imo has 3 personalities

public Bruce - the charismatic playboy ladies man which can be seen as a cover to not show his inner pain
private Bruce- the bruce only alfred will see
batman - the entity of fear and intimidation that needs the deep voice aswell as a cold demeanor

Dude ! Totally with you on that one. GB has the physique and does
a growly voice better than anyone. Picture him standing high
atop a skyscraper over a dark city, the Joker starts to laugh
and GB, as the Dark Knight says.
"Madness you say....THIS IS GO-THAM !" as he boots the Joker off the
roof.

(audience cheers, guys look at each other all over the cinema and
go F#$% yeah ! film wins academy award for best ass-kicking in human
history and makes a billion at the box office)

Superman shows up GB-Batman says "Superman....we'll put that name
to the test. Before this battle is over we'll find out that even a god can bleed"
(before throwing kryptonite edged bat-throwing-knife).

Well, who knows ?

But how did WB miss that ? I have nothing against Batfleck,
but GB would have owned the role.

The ability to not just be a one note character. He can't growl his way through his whole performance. He can't just get by completely on a physically intimidating role. Just as he can't only succeed in portraying the smooth billionaire and not convince when masked up.

Every facet will have to be believable to make the actor playing him (in this case Affleck) disappear.

I think the one that I've seen accomplished the least successfully of any of these traits (in ANY movie, not just Batman) is the 'cold demeanor'.

I've seen a lot of actors -try- to play a cold character, but it's rare that it actually feels organic. If Affleck can properly nail that, I will be more impressed than I would have been with any of the other qualities in the poll.

The script. For example, Clooney worked with poo and looked like poo because of it.

The actor who portrays Batman must be a billionaire who is also the world's greatest detective and hand to hand combatant, as well as posess high level mastery of escapism and acrobatics. He should also be able to engineer fantastic yet practical crime fighting equipment the likes of which the world has never seen. Anything less would obviously be a slap in the face to the character and the fans. Said actor's parents do not have to have been gunned down on the streets in front of him when he was 8yrs old. I mean, it is called acting for a reason.

I personally hope they get away from the "I'm obsessed over my parents death" and the "I need to find a way to walk away from being Batman and have a normal life" stuff we saw in the Burton, Schumacer, and Nolan films. Since we're getting a grizzled and battle hardened , 40 something year old Bruce Wayne, I would hope at this point he would have accepted his role as Batman and not still be tortured or doubtful about his choices.

Its his mission and there's always a new mission, and he'll go to any extreme to accomplish his mission. That's why I think for this version in MOS 2, they need to keep going back to that Miller quote and the sort of badass nature of the character . That's something I would like to see with this new version of Batman.

I agree with all of this, but I think continuing to leave roses for his parents, or little nods to them otherwise, should always be a thing. It doesn't have to be in-your-face obsession; it can be quiet.

It's a part of him that never fully goes away, and I find that dedication to be a poetic and defining aspect of his personality.

I picked the "wild intensity" option even though I believe simple "intensity" would have been a better option. You could obviously tell the emphasis on the "wild intensity" in Bale's performance, but there were also more subtle moments of "quiet intensity" - these would generally occur when the real Bruce Wayne would slip through his public mask, but there were also these more "quiet" moments when he was under the cowl, for example, during the initial stages of his interrogation of the Joker. These two types of intensity are inherrent to the character, I feel.

There is of course more to the character than this, but I feel that in Bale's performance the two types of intensity shone through and while I don't want Affleck to copy Bale in any way, I feel the intensity of the character has to come through in the actor's performance. He needs to put his own spin on it, though. Affleck was pretty decent in this respect in Daredevil, so I'm pretty optimistic in this respect.

I thought this would have been the obvious choice, but, being able to convince you they are Batman.

The most important thing to portray about Bruce is that he is a person whose many mental, social and physical conflicts will never be in balance. Dark and light are supposed to be in balance: Yin and Yang. But not in Bruce. In a figurative sense, Bruce is in such a state of conflict that he bleeds all over everything. And his enemies can smell that blood in the water from very far away. That's what helps draws his enemies to him. Especially the Joker.
