I'm not making any argument in the discussion but the point of differing tastes between different groups doesn't hang on one group loving something and the other hating it. It can be true with smaller differences between them.

Nice that's certainly higher than what they gave the first film.

The Tomatometer is not a measure of quality so much as watchability.

Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol - 93% - RT Average Rating 7.7 (metacritic 73)

12 Years a Slave - 94% - RT Average Rating 8.9 (metacritic 94)

BTW really do not understand First Class`s 87% there is nothing special about it in my opinion.
It got 87% because the movie wasn't safe and it was actually a fun enjoyable movie.

...and it's just a damn good flick. The acting and character development between the two leads are excellent in FC.

Good to see the early word is positive on Thor. Cant wait for this flick. I'm thinking it will end up somwehere between 75 and 80%. Just going by the other Marvel flicks.

First Class is on the same level as Iron Man, Iron Man 3, and The Avengers, but WAY better than any of Marvel Studios other movies. Thor 2 is looking like its gonna be of that quality too

After reading IGN's review I'm expecting a rotten score. After all, they typically rate genre films very high. Man of Steel, for example, got a 9/10.

Honestly, though, I don't care what the critics think. So far the trailers look good and I'm very excited to see it.

Edit: Although, I guess IGN didn't give the first Thor a far better score either. So who knows.

That is very unlikely.

6.8 is a fresh score isn't it?

I assume we'll get a lottttt of 6/10s and 7/10s, and thus a high 'fresh' rating with an average rating in the 6s. . Not many 10s and not many 2s.

Most complaints I've seen are not pointing at any specific problems nor any specific pros. Many just felt it was 'meh' -- not very engaging, but not long or serious to the point that it offended them. "Fun enough" is what I've seen in some reviews.

IGN gave Thor 7, it`s not so different (like at all, really) from TDW with it`s 6,8. So I guess it just do not click with them on some basic character and universe level.

Wasn't the IGN reviewer's biggest complaint was "not enough Loki"?

I wouldn't know cause I didn't read it. Too many plot details included.

I of course can't know how accurate it is yet but I do get some hope when I see a lower score from someone that gave MoS a high score. When I saw Thor i liked it and it's actually become better with each repeat rewatch. MoS I disliked and the more I think about it the worse it gets.

And no, I'm not interested in discussing MoS in case anyone would happen to feel the need to comment on my personal opinion.

Yeah, Thor really got better upon more viewings for me. It's one of my favorite Marvel studio flicks now. IGN's score doesn't hold alot of credit with me with how this flick will be viewed overall. Sometimes I agree, other times not so much. Like most reviews.

It received reasonably high ratings from fans and critics.... just not well liked on comic forums

I'd say those were more "movies that made money because of the name even though they kinda sucked" than "liked by the GA but hated by fans".
I don't know many people, especially non-comic fans, who really likes any of those movies (tho I liked IM3, and I know a couple comic fans who liked TDKR)
and yet, they raked in the cash

I listed those movies because of their viewer rating, not because of how much money they made. money did not come into my choice at all. each of those received fresh scores from the average joe yet are nick picked or b***hed about by fans constantly

I suppose
but who knows where those "reviews" came from
Like I said, haven't met a lot of general audience members rushing to defend those movies

because you're a comic fan and I would gather that many of your friends you go to movies with are comic fans as well . I went to Iron Man 3 and TDKR with a bunch of people who never picked up a comic (only one comic fan saw IM3 with me) they all loved it....but me and the one comic fan did complain a tad about Mandarin. I got over it but he could not forgive the twist. But my other friends? they said it was the best IM ever

I'm one of those furious IM3 defenders I think it is 2nd best MCU movie to date personally, and I feel as time passes it will grow on people. I take alot of flak in some circles for this line of thought lol

But isn't saying "they kinda sucked" more your opinion than the objective statistical data of box office receipts and home video sales?

I read the comics, some of the older Iron Man ones, and I will defend the Mandarin twist passionately to this day, I really loved it so much. I wasn't expecting it either; the people I went to the movie with just lost it (in a good way) during that part, and they're part of the general audience who doesn't read the books.

I totally agree with your friends though. Best. IM. Ever!!
