There are several great scenes in Raiders that have already been mentioned but the great thing about Raiders, and the reason it is my favorite Spielberg movie, is that you can't go two minutes without running into yet another brilliant moment or detail that shows what a genius of a visual storyteller Spielberg was at his peak. So many sight gags, so many moments that give chills--even sometimes just a combination of the image with the score--so many deft character interactions, so many different ways in which Spielberg fills you with awe, laughter, or excitement through what you're seeing and hearing. It's just pure, unbridled, inspired entertainment and, to me, the epitome of entertainment as art through the sheer grace and beauty of HOW it entertains.

it's a dramatic paradigm shift for the series and i don't think Crystal Skulls was able to make it work. the character of Indiana Jones, the adventurous archaeologist, i think is much more resonant as this avatar who interacts with the things of the past as opposed to what may be in our future. also, i'm sorry, but everything in the jungle was a CGI eye-sore of a colossal magnitude. and i'm not a CG hater. |

Aliens ARE in our deepest mythologies....thats why there's theories about them visiting our earliest ancestors. That's why the film took place in the jungle, with ancient civilizations...because it IS part of our past. The very subject of the Skulls goes back thousands of years....so ya.

The crystal skulls were invented in the 1800's. I don't believe they ever existed before they were created by a German jeweler at that time.
Aliens or something like them might be attributed to myth but it's still a stretch to make that connection to what we see as aliens now to what they saw as aliens then. |

What if a fifth Jones film expanded on the aliens, and they were actually sidhe?

I had no problem with it being aliens, the posters, trailers and title alone made it very obvious, i think the films problems were others

It's almost too good to be true but has just enough disappointment to be believable and not just some fanboy dream rumor.

Ford must really want to make Indiana Jones 5, from his constant talk about not being very interested in Han Solo but being open to Indy, and now this. If this is true then it will be good for both parties involved.

1891 if we go with Ford's age.

If you go by the Young Indy tv series of the 90s the old aging Indy says he was born in 1899 making him late mid to late 30s in parts 1-3 and 58 in part 4.

I wonder if Indy is still alive in 2013 just waiting for 'Indiana Jones 8' to be made.

Harrison has always liked Indy. Ford has been phoning in many performances in recent years. However, you can really tell when he's actually interested in a film and is really trying. Indy 4 was on such case, he was clearly enjoying playing the character again. He also was really good in 42.

I liked his Branch Rickey.
Ford has always seemed to like the Indiana Jones character. Certainly moreso than Han Solo. So Ford wanting to do another Indy film wouldn't surprise me. |
