Perhaps. I remember the Dark Elves and Odin talking about them and the Aether but I honestly don't remember seeing Jane pulled into the portal.

Regardless, it still is problematic in the fact that the portals were created by the convergence not the Aether and the chances that a portal would just so happen to open up in the cavern the Aether was hidden in of all the places in the nine realms stills strains credibility. Unless, we are to believe it can open up portals and the like. It is less of a stretch though.

Sure the ring wanted to be found. But it still requires Bilbo to stumble into the cave.

Certain posters were dead set on it's OW breaking 100m. But yeah, an 86m OW is great by almost any standards.

Critics with biases are not professional (IMO.), they are more like fanboys.
I have to agree completely take each film on its own merits and throw away the preconceived notion. However with existing characters obviously this isn't completely possible but the we should be a little more flexible about the tone compared to other incarnations and compared to other films.

Uh, what was wrong with Thor's marketing? There were TONS of Tv spots and sneak peaks across a lot of stations and TV shows. The only weird marketing choice that I saw was the not releasing the toys till after the movie premiered. There was also no fast food/thrift store marketing this time (i.e. cups and stuff) but it appears Disney doesn't do that stuff anymore anyway.

I'd say to this point, Thor's marketing isn't as good as their Cap 2 marketing or their IM3 marketing. That said, I still think it was marketed fairly well. It's performing well and we're going to get a Thor 3. I am happy with that.

Feels like they really want Cap to gear us up for AoU. It is basically the IM2 of this Phase in that regard.

They are factored in. By Sunday they more or less no what it is going to make. How the box office works over the weekend once you get initial numbers has been fine tuned for years. They are rarely off by more then a few million once Fridays numbers come in.

As a long time Thor fan I never dreamed I'd see the day that I'd get three straight years of him on the big screen in three separate big budget films. The film's opening weekend has exceeded expectations. Especially considering this is a November release. But more importantly it is a great flick. Would I have liked more Warriors Three, Malekith, Kurse etc.? Hell yes. But what we got was awesome and I'll take what I can get. I'm actually amazed that the movie felt as epic as it did for such a short run time.

I agree with BigThor that Marvel definitely is giving preferential treatment to Iron Man which irks me as well but they are also a business and RDJ is a big key to their success. It is what it is.

But the amount of effort that clearly went into this film indicates that they do care about Thor's success. It is by far the best of the MCU films for spectacle that's for sure. Well worth the price of admission. Saw it again in IMAX and it was fantastic!

Actually in my country, there's a fast food marketing Thor: the Dark World, they even give out Thor's Hammer USB.

There are a lot of people that wanted Thor:TDW to be over hyped like Ironman 3.

I really really liked it and think it's the best CBM of the year thus far. Quite an improvement over the original Thor movie IMO, which was good in it's own right.
Couldn't agree more. I enjoyed the movie very much.
Also, i've lost faith in RT after i saw that a lot of my fav movies where criminally low on their ranking:

Gladiator : 76%. One of my 3 fav movies ( the other ones being Godfather and Lion King - don't judge me ) that should have 100% (and i'm being objective lol)

Kingdom of Heaven: 39%!!!!!!

Robin Hood: 43%!

Troy: 54%

Men of Honor: 41% (truly, this movie should be a 100%)

Okay i stop now, i think i've made my point haha

Ps: yes -- i love Ridley Scott movies
Ps2: yes, my english is terrible, sorry for that

Because for some people the RT rating reflects on the quality of the movie.

It wasn't dumb because it made me laugh -- it was dumb because it tried to make me laugh and just irritated me at the horrible failure.

For many of us, underwear jokes were not funny in Spawn, they were not funny in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, and they were not funny in Thor: The Dark World. Most of the jokes were flat out dumb... e.g. "Can I have my shoe back?" There were a few jokes that worked, but they were outweighed by the ones that didn't.

The opening sequence of the volcanic wasteland world was weak. It didn't immerse me, which an opening sequence should be able to. They also lacked imagination in creating an alien world.

Aside from that, the whole plot is based on a red mist that reminds me of Galactus and Parallax, Malekite is a weak villain, Jane/Selvig controlling the portals at the end doesn't make sense, the politics os Asgard is potentially interesting but completely brushed over, and there is the plot hole of a defeated Malekite laying waste to the capital of Asgard within a few moments of waking up from a 5,000 year slumber.

The second after the credits sequence, where Thor meets Jane back on Earth, should have been before the credits. The romantic comedy is one of the few aspects of this movie that worked well, and they put it as the second after the credits scene, which to me shows they didn't get their own movie.

No - It's not a good metric. It's a curiosity.

Basically Rotten Tomatoes works like this: When you agree with it, the score is right. When you don't agree with it, the score is wrong. Very simple.

Why are people so insecure that they need a score to validate their own opinions?

The only time I use RT is when I'm waffling on seeing a film or not and the score is really bad or the score is really good. After that it's a crap shoot.

Yeah, it would be nearly impossible to reflect every opinion with full accuracy but I think this reasonably reflects the opinions of most people.

I agree with RT around 75% of the time. So I will pay attention to their scores if I'm on the fence about watching a movie.

Rotten tomatoes is a VERY flawed metric because it doesn't take into account degrees of enjoyment. Someone can technically make a film that scores a 90%, but that 90% of critics thought it was a good not great movie. But, no one reads the reviews to look into that.

I always laugh whenever people bring RT scores into a debate on the merits of a film. Films are enjoyed on a person by person basis. You can't measure how much YOU enjoy something based on a percentage of critics or people that can skew the results (see IMDBs great Godfather vs The Dark Knight war in 2008). It's not a perfect metric, yet people think it is.
