I don't think it was the lack of amount of action, but how I felt that the action itself didn't feel as intense as it could be.

I mean the shoot out sequence in the Hellcarrier between Fury and Loki's henchman was a prime example in my honest opinion of how "tamed" the action was at times. There was really nothing exciting about the way that sequence was shot, and while it was a dream to see the Hulk and Thor go at it, that too felt like it was tamed and the cinematography didn't feel inspiring at times either.

Plus, I felt like the intensity and full power of Thor's swings were more evident in his solo film than they were in the final battle of New York.

I just think that this boils down to how Whedon didn't have as much experience in handling large scale action sequences at the time that he had shot the film.

Be fair, that's incomplete work. I suspect it would have been much more polished if they actually used it.

This is sounding more and more like "Waa waa, there wasn't enough blood and collateral damage and on-screen horrible death!"

Heroleee isn't wrong. The action could have been much more intense. He's right in the fact that Whedon barely had any experience with doing those types of action sequences. Hopefully he's improved and learned since the first movie. If not, it will be a disappointment for me.

Well the action was certainly epic enough for the first Avengers film and Whedon's first film of this magnitude. I was actually impressed, granted the action could've been bigger but it was definately nothing to sneeze at.

Truth be told, I was kind of disappointed with how little we saw of Thor in the battle of New York. Sure, he had his moments, but they were so rare and like others have said about how Whedon really didn't tap into what Captain America can do as a super soldier, I felt the same about how Whedon could have showed and used more of Thor's powers on the big screen.

Hell, he could have at least shown Thor and Iron Man fighting alongside each other while flying and taking out several chitauri cruisers.
Yeah I'm with you on that, but I'm sure they're going to knock it out the park this time around. Thor's action could've been better in The Avengers, but it still was above average and Joss is only gonna "up" from there.

I agree. This is a key part of the treatment over on the "A2 Treatment" thread.

The only way I can see Marvel doing another Hulk vs Thor fight would be to do either a film version of World War Hulk where they replace Sentry's role with Thor or if they do a film version of Fear it Self where Hulk becomes Nul Breaker of Worlds.

I can see Fear it Self happening becaue unlike World War Hulk you wouldn't need to set that film up with another film. World War Hulk needs Planet Hulk to even work.

Or the could go the Avengers Assemble route and have Thor and Hulk casually sparring in the training room.

I would love it if the end result of both DARK WORLD and WINTER SOLDIER is that Cap and Thor are now living at AVENGERS TOWER (I actually do assume that is where Banner is staying.). If the opening to A2 is just Tony going from room to room checking up on his NYC "roomies" I'll be very happy. Plus I want to see what Thor and Banner's relationship is like. Is he cordial because he thinks of Hulk as another guy, to turn a phrase? Or is he a little surly with Banner, hoping to goad him into a little "horse play" as the Jade Giant?

As others have mentioned in the Thor forums, I'd like to see Thor tackling some earthbound villains at the start of the film, just to establish that he does come to Earth or patrol on the planet every now and then while showing that he's considered a resident hero on Earth as well.

Put me with those who love the thread title and really hope they work it into the film somehow that works.

Maybe an appearance by the Wrecking Crew? They have ties to Loki, if I remember right.

Sounds sweet

The Wrecking Crew are definately my 1st choice, but Thor vs a group of "extremis soldiers" is my 2nd.

I love the sound of that. It's also a good explanation for why he's in the movie...Well, unless Thor: TDW ends with something horrible happening to Asgard or Thor not being able to return.

k Thor 2 came out, any additional thoughts?

Feige says something to the effect of "they're piecing all they have to together to build Ultron" storyline

Whilst Superman's abilities were in full display and impressive in MOS, Snyder over did it and that's going to cause a problem when he faces off against Batman. They will have to depower him to make Batman look good and so they can go toe-to-toe. Anyways, I hope to see Thor get a power boost in A:AOU.

I feel like Superman in Man of Steel was for people who liked to play Duke Nukem in "god mode". It just became an absolute joke with no sense of context and actually made some of the weird crap from the Reeves movies look normal (like superman tearing off his "S" emblem as a net).

While they could show some more of Thor's powers, I definitely don't want to see him the way they showed Man of Steel. My favorite scene in the dark world is when Thor is fighting in the dungeons and they do a slow-mo of him snapping a prisoners neck with one hand and tossing him in the air. That's how you should show Thor, he's a prince but he's a warrior.

The other stupid thing about Man of Steel was how Zod was taunting Kal-El that he was bread to be a soldier and Clark was a boy who grew up on a farm and didn't know any battle tactics. Yet pretty much Clark suffered nothing during the fight and easily kicks Zod's ass.

Thor should be a bad ass, but he should not be so powerful that he could take on Ultron single handed. In fact in a one on one battle Ultron should be able to kick Thor's butt to Valhalla. They need to show that the team is needed together to be able take on Ultron.

That image has NOTHING to to with the movie.

It's just a cover from Annihilation: Conquest where Ultron merges with the Phalanx.

I think as the MCU progresses, so will Thor's abilities. He'll become stronger each time he appears in a movie.

I agree that Thor's abilities will grow, though moreso because the story needs them to, unfortunately. I would love to see the movies show just how powerful Thor is -- to a reasonable degree at least. But they have to do it for the right reason: to strengthen the character in some way (i.e. make him more majestic). Sadly, the formula is usually to set up a villain powerful enough that the audience can believe the heroes might fail, and then write yourself out of it with an eleventh hour superpower, of which Thor is often the target (i.e. a god blast is a great aspect to Thor that directly references his heritage as a god/demi-god, but which used wrongly can be jarring). Simply put, Thor's powers leave a lot of room to pull some ability like that out of the aether . Or hey, it could always be a conveniently placed deus ex machina (Tony finds that he can upload a computer virus to Ultron, and Independence Day and War of the Worlds references abound...ha!).

It's rare that the story will use actual teamwork, cooperation, and strategy to overcome a challenge, which is why the Avengers movie kind of worked. Well, except for the deus ex of Loki's spear I guess.

But I seriously hope that Thor doesn't resemble the Man of Steel in any way regarding decisions about overpowered abilities. The comics version of Thor could move at the speed of lightning if truly needed (although it was never really used during battles IIRC), which is thousands of times faster than the speed of sound. In real life, a lightning strike will rupture people's eardrums who are nearby, and lightning is composed of only electrons and plasma. A solid person moving at that speed, weighing around 100 kg, would kill anyone instantly at a fair distance away. Even though the Kryptonians probably only moved at a few times the speed of sound (just a guess I admit), I think that is why MOS showing what a "realistic battle between superheroes and villains would truly be like" was so silly in its claims. Everyone who could see Superman before he "blitzed" (or whatever they called it) would have been dead from the concussive shockwave hitting them a second later. No glass would have been left intact anywhere in Kansas. And I'm pretty sure a balloon would have popped at a child's birthday party somewhere.

First superhero lesson for DC: stop using that particular power unless you really enjoy killing all innocent bystanders, you psychos!

He won't be fighting Batman it will just turn out to be a mild skirmish. They going to follow the same pattern they always follow. Batman tricks Superman into letting his guard down and beats him up while having a piece of Kryptonite on him. It's pretty much text book and predicable at this point. It's what they all ways do. Unless your talking about alternate Universe Superboy/man prime and alternate Universe Batman. lol

You know, I've been thinking about it for awhile, but does anyone else think that it'd be awesome to see Thor's opening scene in this film involving him taking out some earth based threat, thus being the first time that he's tackled something on Earth that wasn't from "his world", along with a nice cameo from the Agents of SHIELD cast where we actually see him coming to their rescue during this intro for this film?

I figure that way, we tackle any hopes of wanting to see him operate on Earth while showing a nice cameo from the AOS cast and showing that the other Avengers do help them whenever the situation calls for it at times.

Thoughts?

My idea for his introduction is: Jane and Darcy are at their apartment in London picking out clothes or whatever, when Jane reveals she's going on a date. Darcy is surprised and continuously bugging her about who it is, is he hot etc. After a few minutes of this there's a loud knock on the door. Darcy races to answer it and Thor is standing there, in full armour.

I really do hope against all odds that Whedon has something useful for Thor to do as a character in this film.

Now that he's "Loki-free" (for the time being), he can be allowed to be involved in other arcs that doesn't revolve all around Loki.

To be honest, I'm not holding out my breath that Thor will get a solid arc in this film. I mean he was pretty much only used for his connection to Loki in the first Avengers' film in terms of arcs and that didn't do much for him, and his latest sequel didn't do the best job either...in fact, it did more for Loki than it did for Thor.

Well if they do it like EMH, Loki can STILL be sent to the Island of silence, since we really don't know what happened to Odin.
