Default What stories should they take inspiration from?

I'm interested in what people think. The only one we know they're taking something from is Miller's TDKR...and obviously they can't take too much from it. Are there any stories from the comics you think they should take inspiration from? Any random stories/interactions in the old World's Finest comics or anything from the modern Superman/Batman runs like Public Enemies?

Thanks for the thread, I've been thinking about this and have wanted to discuss it here. They're not going to use much from Dark Knight Returns as Snyder said. I'm personally hoping for Public Enemies as it's not just a famous Superman/Batman story, it's also a Superman vs Lex Luthor movie as what the sequel to MOS calls for.

Henry Cavill also brought up that he read Superman/Batman: The Search for Kryptonite in interviews as preparation for his role. It's assumed that he knew the sequel was going to feature Batman well in advance, and that there's only a short window between now till the next movie, so maybe there's something there?

Superman meets Batman (Man of Steel)

Dynamic/friendship (Superman/Batman Public Enemies)

The Supergirl From Krypton could also be used.

In the first arc of Batman/Superman comics (the Jeph Loeb one) Luthor is president. Do you think he is going to be president in the film ?

Funny enough, Snyder said that they're not using TDKR for inspiration.

Though I'd love to see this list of comics used for the upcoming film:
Azzarello's Lex Luthor: Man of Steel
Byrne's Man of Steel (the chapter with Batman and Gotham)
Superman/Batman - Public Enemies
Superman/Batman arcs
World's Finest.

I honestly think we will see very little from the comics or previous stories. Both Superman and Batman are in very unique story lines than the comic books at this point.

I really hope we see a detective Batman study and observe an alien super power and work toward bringing him down only to learn that it was mistake and worked into some plan that Lex had all along.

I just don't know.

I'd like a little bit of that DCAU WF from S:TAS, a little of Batman/Superman/Wonder Woman:trinity even though that's more of a trinity thing

with talk of batman controlling drones, that's on the kingdom come side of things.

Yeah I definitely think Lex Luthor: Man of Steel will be a primary influence.

I also think they're taking a bit from Kingdom Come (Batman using drones).

I doubt it, but I'd love to see a movie where he's campaigning, and Superman/Batman take it upon themselves to make sure that never happens.

That really depends on the story they're trying to tell in this film, and where this DCLAU is headed.

If Lex is in it, but he's not a villain yet, then I'd like to see him in a manner that we glimpsed in Superman: Earth One II, and was explored in the early years of Smallville. A man who is genuinely trying to help, and is not a bad man, he just has bad things happen to him. This, is what I would like to see, then if a solo Superman trilogy emerges, he acts like Azzarellos's Luthor in Superman 2 and then like Grant Morrison's Luthor in Superman 3.

As for Superman, let's just say, I'm glad Man of Steel is out of the way. I'd love for him to be written closer to his Golden Age roots, and how Mark Waid and Grant Morrison write a young Superman (Birthright/Action Comics v2 1-18). He's brash, a little arrogant, even a little bit rough with criminals, but he's always trying to help the people at the bottom, and as both Superman and Clark Kent, he tries to depose the people who stand on their shoulders.

Now, there's not much that can be done for Batman right now that would be fresh, The Dark Knight Trilogy dealt with the three biggest areas of Batman: his beginning, his greatest foe and his ending.

However, if the rumours we are hearing of Batman having parted ways with Grayson recently are true, then it's gonna have to be some of the crap from the late 80's- early 00's, however, I'd rather good stories that tackle a similar period of his life like The Dark Knight Returns or Kingdom Come. Which would be okay for one film, but if he is to receive his own solo series after this, I'd rather this film be the catalyst for him becoming more like the Grant Morrison Batman.

I think the general assumption is that Bruce will be the antagonist if they do butt heads, I'd like to see a little Hush influence by having a mind-controlled Superman be Batman's antagonist

Does anyone see something like this happening? It's from Search for Kryptonite(a book Cavill brought up in interviews numerous times). I was just reading it and I could see something like this playing out:

Thoughts?
