I'm with FlickChick on Watchmen. It failed for me. A high fail to be sure rather than a pile of puke like Origins was, but a fail none the less.

Indeed. At least it tried, I'll give it that. And I was really excited for it too. Even made a fan-trailer for it, which I've only done for 2 movies in my life (that and Avengers). It just ultimately fell flat for me, which was probably my most crushing movie-related disappointment ever.

Ah well, again, opinions, I personally loved it and its still in my top 5CBM's of all time. But, like other Snyder CBM, it seems people are split right down the middle, its either a love or hate thing with 300, Watchmen and MOS.

Ah, I know your pain, X-Men 3 was mine, will never get over the disappointment of that.

Man Of Steel seems to winning more easily this time, similar to the other poll on the misc films threat. TW made a great comeback in the last thread but I think TDW has taken some of TW's and MOS's fans. It seems that way anyway.

Looks to me like the Marvel movies ate into each others votes, cuz there aint no way MoS should be winning, IMO

after finally having seen them all though, it's a very close race
I'd have to rate them as follows:
1- IM3- 7.8/10
2- Thor2- 7.4/10
3- Wolverine- 7.3/10
4- MoS- 7.2/10

they are all so similar in quality, especially Wolverine, TDW, and MoS, they were all good but not amazing movies. IM3 gets the extra points just for having some political intrigue and taking some risks with the plot twists, which Wolverine failed at and Thor and MoS didn't even attempt. It just felt like a smarter film than the other 3.

^I cant agree with IM3 being smarter, all the movies had mistakes but some of IM3's were totally stupid IMO. Non of the movies were particularly smart but I thought at least MOS and TW aimed for something higher than a 'fun action movie' which all the MCU movies seem to be now.

IM3 and TDW were just so disappointing in that regard, both, especially TDW though, had the potential to be so much more but Marvel are just happy churning out mid-level stuff it seems.

IM3 (9.5/10), an almost perfect genre movie
T:TDW (8/10), the plot is a bit generic, but I loved it
KA2 (5.5/10), so much potential that this movie didn't live up to
TW (5/10), destroyed by a horrible third act
MOS (1/10), not only do I want my money back but also compensation money for the lifetime I lost watching this....err..ungh..film

In my opinion, the twist in Iron Man 3 was fantastic and there were quite a few other memorable moments. MOS really doesn't have anything like that.

Too bad it doesn't look like Snowpiercer is making it to North American shores this year. Judging by reviews and pedigree, it looks like it could have been a contender.

Blue is the Warmest Color is likely the answer to this poll, albeit it's definitely not a superhero/sci-fi film which is really the parameter we're looking at.

Thank Zeus, Allah, God, Cthulhu and all the Great Old Ones that MoS didn't have Iron Man 3 quality moments.

I stand by Iron Man 3's twist being clever and unique. I wouldn't stomach it if I thought it was executed poorly, but in my opinion it was executed brilliantly. The other movie super villains of this year may have been more straightforward, fanboy-satisfactory baddies, but Mandarin/Killian actually invites you to think about how we like to give evil a face. Zod didn't give me anything to think about other than "he's Superman's first major enemy."

^I just didnt think the twist was that clever in the end, and on re-watch the twist really does grate and make the movie less enjoyable to me. Killian just didnt come across as a big enough threat to me, despite what we were given from him in the movie.

^In fairness there are bigger problems in the movie than the twist though, the way they tied everything up at the end being one that immediately springs to mind.

I hate how people always compare the twist to other movie villains. "What if the Joker turned out to be a drunk actor." "What if Darth Vader was a drunken actor" (surprisingly true statement from a friend )

The twist in IM3 actually made sense and I agree, it WOULDN'T work for the Joker, Zod, Darth Vader, etc. I loved the twist because it changed the villain from a stereotypical terrorist to a "homegrown" terrorist which I thought was well done.

My updated list is

Thor TDW: Loved the action, humor, and twists 9/10
IM3: I loved the twist and the action, a little too much humor though 8/10
The Wolverine: Great story, but it felt a little boring at times 8/10
Red 2: I'm not sure why this was torn apart so much, it was fun! 7/10
MOS: I'm not a big superman fan and this film was really boring at parts, and I didn't feel emotionally attached to Clark's father or Clark or anyone. Plus he destroyed half of Metropolis. I disliked it but it wasn't terrible 5/10

Didn't watch KA2

I just dont think the twist was as clever as Marvel or Shane Black thought/think it is, on my 1st viewing I liked it, same with the movie in general, but everytime I have re-watched it I have liked it less and less, same with the movie in general.

As with many other things in the movie, being played for laughs hugely effects the impact of such a thing, especially on re-watch.
