Idris Elba, obviously.

Nothing at against Idris Elba, I just find it humorous how often his name comes up for traditionally white roles .

Really? I've only ever heard it for Bond. What else has he been suggested for?

Well just about every half way decent role is traditionally white...which is a shame in this day and age.

The Malazan Book of the Fallen would be perfect for Idris. Plenty of excellent characters that he could play

It is a shame, but it is the fault of movie studio cowardice and complacency in finding original scripts with original characters. That is a much more satisfactory solution than altering characters that have been around for decades.

That old properties overwhelmingly reflect the times that they were created in is definitely why we need to develop stories that reflect our own. That said there are many characters and stories that can feature non-white actors with pretty much no other changes or implications. Most white characters aren't actually "white" so much as they are "default."

Idris Elba just came to mind because many people, studios included, seem to think he's the only black actor currently active.

Idris Elba, Michael Fassbender, Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hiddleston should star in a movie together called Here It Is, Now Shut The **** Up.

On one hand, yes, there are plenty of characters that a black actor like Idris could play there. With no whining from fans.

On the other hand, if there was ever an unfilmable fantasy series, that's the one

Cumberbatch: Mister Fantastic

Fassbender: Sue Storm (yes)

Hiddelston: Johnny Storm

Idris Elba: Ben Grimm

The Fantastic Four

I know, right! The prologue for Memories of Ice would eat a huge chunk of the budget. Then the armies of undead, weapon-armed velociraptors would be reduced to SyFy Original-tier SFX. Idris Elba for Quick Ben.

That would be a genius cast for a satirization of the Super Hero genre. Given how much their names are bandied about for hero flicks.

And the obligatory European model that everyone swears has great acting chops, who only appeared in a SyFy original, and has credentials consisting of pictures of her nearly naked.
