Zelda has been begging for one for years and I know Hollywood has probably been going nuts not to have the rights.

I actually started writing a fan script for "Metroid" several years ago, but never finished it. My choice for Samus was (and still is) Laura Vandervoort.

Sadly, it'd be very difficult to do one now, without having folks think they ripped off "Lord of the Rings".

Zelda being inspired by Lord of the Rings doesn't help.

I think it would be a pretty tricky thing to pull off regardless though.

But Zelda actually has a lot of stuff that lends itself to cinema (amazing creatures, grand backdrops, etc)... Mario, not so much.

Actually, Shigeru Miyamoto said he got the idea for the "Zelda" series from wandering around in the fields surrounding his home as a child. There were also caves in the area, and he'd imagine what kinds of things could be living there. The title character's name is a reference to F. Scott Fitzgerald's wife.

Takashi Tezuka has gone on record that he was a big Lord of the Rings fan growing up.

Ganon's name is a rather obvious nod to Sauron.

Well for staters, you have a giant dragon-like creature who commands an army of enchanted minions like Goombas and Pirhana Plants. Then of course, there's the seven Koopalings, Bowser Jr., and lead magician Kamek.

I'm sorry, but Mario is a terrible franchise to turn into a live-action movie.

The games (aside from the RPG's) have almost no plot. The characters are paper thin (and that's not a bad attempt at a pun), and trying to turn it into live-action inevitably results in some horrifically freakish designs.

As a cartoon, it could work, but not live action.

Even so, it was Miyamoto who first thought up the main ideas for the series.

Ganon was originally called Hakkai, after a 16th-century Chinese novel called "Journey to the West". The character's name was changed later in the first title's development.

I wouldn't mind seeing an attempt at it being done with motion capture, like "The Polar Express".

And Tezuka was in charge of story (and some programming). Miyamoto credits him as co-creator.

I don't doubt that Miyamoto's own experiences shaped gameplay, but the influence of Lord of the Rings is pretty obvious, even beyond simple names.

I'm actually impressed you know that about Ganon though.

I grew up with the cartoon. That was fun. Kind of weird though, looking back.

Weird and cheap.

Lol, this would probably revive Nintendo if they ever licensed another SMB Movie. They could use the movie to advertise, say, the Wii U...

I loved the world they created for the first movie. A live action take on Mario can work. It'd just be $$$, and thus going the animated route is a safer bet. The characters are thin, but then fleshing them out is the whole purpose of adapting the games to film.

A Pixar or Dreamworks Mario film (probably Pixar as Bowser was already in Wreck it Ralph) would do wonders for Nintendo I think.

Nintendo already took issue with them using Mario as is, so I don't even know if they'd let them do a full fledged movie again. Hollywood Pictures used to be a Disney studio.

I thought I read that the net Wreck it Ralph film would take place, primarily, with Nintendo characters? Maybe not but I could have sworn...

SMB wasn't too bad if you ignore that it's meant to be based on Mario, but I would have preferred just a bit more faithfulness. I mean, even if you're going to make it all realistic, why do the characters absolutely have to look human? They did giant turtles pretty well in the TMNT movies right around that time. A realistic looking Bowser would actually be kind of intimidating. I didn't like how construed the dinosaur theme of Super Mario World with all Mushroom World-related characters like Daisy, Toad, and King Koopa who are normally unrelated to dinosaurs. I mean sure, Bowser and the koopalings look a bit like turtle-dinosaur hybrids, but Toad? He's a mushroom person. And there was never any indication that there was anything reptilian about Daisy. So Dinohattan is more or less like a realistic reimagining of Dinosaur Land, but the only character that should originate from that world is Yoshi.

I honestly think a super mario film would be as good as the lego movie or wreck it Ralph (hopefully in cgi)

Mario - zack galifakakis
Luigi - Neil Patrick Harris
Peach - Anne Hathaway
Daisy - mila kunis
Bowser- Seth McFarlane (not sure why I just think it would be interesting)
Toad- Jeremy shada
Wario- Neumann from Seinfeld lol
