Just saw Filth!

I thought it was one of those movies like The Wrestler that lives or dies on the strength of the lead performance, and James' performance in this is phenomenal and yeah the best one of his career so far. Even though he plays a totally despicable human being he brings so much pathos and empathy to the character I actually found myself hoping that Bruce would get that promotion and get his life back on track. It's a damn shame this is not getting The Wrestler-like buzz outside of the UK. The film is also very very funny if you appreciate a totally wrong, perverse, pitch-black sense of humour. My only complaint was that, because of the thick Scottish accents, I've missed some of the fast-spoken dialogue at the start of the film, so I look forward to re-watching it on DVD with subtitles (how I wish they had subtitles at the cinema all the time).

Awesome! I wonder if, as the film now has a distributor in the US, more countries will follow and more people will have the chance to see it - like me.

I think it's shame too. Even though I haven't seen the film, from the rave reviews I've been reading I'm pretty sure James would be up to any best actor award going. Unfortunately, since the film didn't have its premiere at any major film festival like TIFF, and since it will be only released in the US next year, I don't think he'll get any major nom - probably only for the Baftas.

I wonder for how long James will remain so underrated. I don't know of many other actors these days who can be convincing playing a mutant, a mythological faun, a Shakespearean king, a romantic lead and a violent, scary, disturbed cop. It breaks my heart because it always seems that his co-stars get all the glory and the awards.

Yeah, I see that the old extensions will make a comeback.

Daniel looks a bit like Edward Scissorhands. Can't wait to see James on set!

I think it's simply about timing and playing the right role in the right movie. Filth I think is the right kind of role - dynamic, showy, transformative - but the movie itself is probably too out there and of too limited appeal to fly on either critical or popular radar. Whereas the other films James appeared in might have got more attention - but his role in them is just not the kind that gets the most attention.

Like with Atonement, James was the romantic lead, but the juiciest character of the movie is Briony. Whereas Robbie is something of a passive character, in a sense of being acted on rather than someone who changes his life through his own actions.

For anyone interested, James has just won the Best Actor award for his performance in Filth, awarded by the British Independent Film Award - BIFA 2013.

So happy for this very talented actor. And maybe one day he can even be featured in a group shot poster for XMDOFP!

No, his hair is brown and the beard is red. It's his Scottish heritage.

Just catching up to see that we had a troll situation in here earlier, who craigdbfan has escorted from the forum. Sorry about that folks. If anyone else comes in here to harass anyone again, just ignore the troll and report it. It will be taken care of. Thanks.

Neither does Singer, McAvoy and the writers. Might be a good time to take another look at those photos.

I love (translation: hate) how Rogue fans are fighting with Storm fans who are fighting with Xavier fans. Can't we all just get along? Lol

I love the way pants in the 60s and 70s were tailored. He looks like he's got them on backwards.

I'm so frustrated that the James/Charles cover wasn't introduced by anyone. I was expecting Patrick to talk about his younger self. Damn James is always left behind.
