It's the most balanced in terms of presenting all aspects of the character's history for sure.

One thing that keeps it from being my definitive version though is that they had to hold back on how dark they could go due to being being a kid's show. No fault of Dini and Timm of course, but stuff like The Joker's murders having to be tamed (which they talk about on the special features) really took the bite out of the character for me. And again, I know this could be said to be true to Silver Age Joker...but that's not The Joker I truly love and want to see. They kinda got to this midway point between Silver Age and 70s/80s Joker, which was excellent for a kid's show but feels a bit lacking when you're an adult re-watching.

They still worked astonishingly well within these constraints and created a classic, don't get me wrong. And they even remedied this somewhat with that very disturbing flashback sequence in Return of The Joker. Now that's the kind of Joker stuff I would've loved to have seen more of.

That is just amazing. BTAS set the standard for all superhero cartoons, and was more deep and mature than half the shows on TV.

THIS one... even as a kid I was never fond of all the variants.

Combat Belt Batman:

I also had this as a kid and embarrassingly still have it. It always took pride of place in my bedroom when I was small.

Outside of Batman;

Clayface (the best villain toy), Man-Bat (second best), Joker and JokerCar, the Batplane, Batmobile (with the secret plane thing), Phantasm (I lost the scythe in a couch or something was super mad about that...), Catwoman, Riddler, and Two-Face were so awesome for kid's cartoon toys.

We got lucky in the 80's - 90's for toys. These days everything is 3x the price but half the value; they're all 3" and made with cheap bendable rubbery-plastics...

Same here, I absolutely loved having the regular outfits for both Batman & Robin. RARELY I'd use a variant, and if so it was the excuse that his outfit was destroyed or needed a special suit for something specific. But it always cam back to the black and grey suit.

BTAS Episode: Time Out of Joint

http://kane52630.tumblr.com/post/745...nimated-series

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:

Trivia

Quote:
  • Batman's premonition of Fugate's survival and return turns out to be true, but his manner of escape from death remains unexplained.
  • Near the end of the episode, Batman speeds away at enormous speed with a bomb exploding in his arms; this trick would later be repeated by the Flash in the Justice League episode "Wild Cards".
  • While by no means the first use of the term, "Time Out of Joint" was the name of a modern art exhibit (disguising a more sinister device) presented by the Clock King in the 1966 Batman episode "The Clock King's Crazy Crimes".
  • The auctioneer appears to be visually modeled on the British actor Terry-Thomas, given the man's accent and distinctive gap in his teeth.
  • Production inconsistencies
  • Dr. Wakati is credited Dr. Wataki. Robin himself mispronounces the name in that way and Batman has to correct him.
  • When Fugate is making his way out of City Hall, he does not have his cane. However, once he's outside, it suddenly appears in his hand.
  • While the changes in the flow of time in this episode are mostly remarkably consistent with the principles of general relativity, there is an inconsistency when the Batmobile is frozen. From Batman and Robin's perspective, the Batmobile shouldn't stop advancing, but it should continue at a normal speed (while the other cars would, as seen in the episode, seem accelerated to streaks of light). The Batmobile would only seem immobile from an outside perspective.
  • Dr. Wakati claims his house is in a radio dead zone to prevent electromagnetic interference to his experiments. While it is certainly possible to be in a cell phone dead zone, there is no such thing as a dead zone when it comes to radio frequencies. The only way to block radio frequencies would be to build a Faraday cage. However, there could be factors in the area that interfere with radio reception.

Clock King was fantastic. Another example of BTAS turning a corny concept villain into a viable serious threat with dimension. His vendetta against Mayor Hill was awesome.

BTAS Episode: Harley's Holiday

http://kane52630.tumblr.com/post/751...nimated-series

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:

Trivia
Quote:
  • Harley's sense of deja vu when she sees Bruce Wayne is not unique; Joker likewise thought he recognized Bruce in "Joker's Wild".
  • This is the first episode in which Harley appears (in a non-cameo role) without the Joker.
  • Harley thinks she recognizes Bruce's chin; in Batman: Animated, the producers wrote that Bruce Wayne/Batman's look was heavily inspired by Dick Tracy, the famous square-jawed detective of 30's comics.
  • While screaming and being returned to his cell, the Scarecrow screams all should feel anguish towards him as the "God of Fear". In the comics, "God of Fear" was actually a title that Scarecrow took when he sent all of Gotham in a panic shortly after Bane broke Batman's back (and Jean Paul Valley took the mantle of Batman).
  • Harley's tirade and Batman's commiseration with her echoes dialogue from Alan Moore's celebrated Batman story The Killing Joke, in which the Joker says that all it takes to turn a sane man into a lunatic is "one really bad day" and then shrewdly asks Batman whether something like that happened to him as well.
  • Harley's line "Call me Harley. Everyone does." is used in a tape recording of Harley's start at Arkham in Batman: Arkham Asylum.
  • This is one of two episodes of Batman: The Animated Series that begins with Batman and Robin escorting the apprehended Scarecrow back to Arkham Asylum. The other one is "Lock-Up".

Nice list there. Great episodes.

This is the Batman I always love no matter how much I love Burton/Nolan ones.
