Default 15 Year Old Dies In Prank Gone Wrong

http://www.cnn.com/2014/02/17/us/arkansas-prank-death/

Quote:
A 15-year-old girl in Little Rock, Arkansas, is dead, police say, because of a prank that went horribly and tragically wrong.
Adrian Broadway was shot in the head and died early Saturday morning.

She was with a group of teenagers who had gone to a house to do a "retaliation" prank on another teen who'd done a prank on them on Halloween, according to the Little Rock Police Department.

The teenagers told police they had thrown toilet paper, eggs and mayonnaise on a car parked there.

As they were leaving, a man came out of the house and opened fire.

Broadway was struck in the head and died.
Quote:
Police have identified the shooting suspect as 48-year-old Willie Noble. He was charged with one count of first-degree murder, one count of a terroristic act and five counts of aggravated assault.
Maybe this has to do with the laws in Arkansas, but why was this guy charged with a terroristic act? I can see murder and assault, but the terrorism thing seems like a stretch.

Both the gunman and the victim were black, so the race card can't really be played in this case.

Eggs can be sharp and deadly when they break open after being thrown!

But seriously, a million dollars says he will claim the eggs breaking sounded like gun shots and he feared for his life. Another pointless death because of extreme paranoia related to another "responsible gun owner."

Tragic outcome, but seriously, why the **** are you vandalising someone's property? I understand kids will be kids, but it might be safer to assume every house is inhabited by an antisocial with a firearm.

Shouldn't adults with guns be responsible adults then too?

No, let's blame the teenager for being a stupid kid instead of the adult for their complete over reaction and irresponsibility with a deadly weapon.

Well, the article claims that this was a retaliation prank, so someone who lives in that house was fine with dishing out a prank, so I'm sure these kids had no idea they'd be shot at for the same.

Honestly, both parties are idiots here but the ****head with a gun, besides being an adult, should know better than to just start shooting out your door.

I agree wholeheartedly that adults with guns need to be responsible. However, the shooter was a 48 year old male, it sounds like he may be the father of a teenager that did the pranking. If you want to prank someone, it might not be an amazing idea to do it to their family's home. I highly doubt this 48 year old guy was running around putting dog **** on people's porches.

In situations like this you should always look at the person taking the initial action, not the response. You can talk at length about what the correct response is to a situation like this, but the fact is that if the kid didn't attempt the prank there wouldn't have been an over reaction. If somebody is comfortable vandalising another person's property, they should be comfortable with the fact that there is an extremely small chance they may end up on the 6 'o clock news in a story similar to this. I'm by no means condoning what he did, and I do agree that kids should be given some leeway in terms of their behaviour. That being said, in a place with gun laws and protocols as shaky as the States I'd be especially cautious about how I approach anyone on their property.

Again, not condoning the man's actions, but it's impossible to tell what someone's history or recent experiences are. Maybe the guy is paranoid, maybe he's been the victim of a crime before, maybe somebody throwing eggs at your windows does sound like a threat, who are we to say what this old guy perceived?

All I'm saying is, considering the cluster**** that could ensue, is pranking someone worth it? Ideally everyone would have unlimited patience to deal with teenagers and their delinquent yet harmless behaviour, but people don't live in an '80s sitcom.

That's roughly 85% of the global population. And I completely agree.

From what I can tell, this guy had no relation to the kids that these teens were pulling the prank on. They were egging the kid's car in retaliation for something he had done to them. The d-bag with the gun was just a neighbour.

Edit: After reading further, it looks like the guy was the father of the kid who had pulled the first prank.

Oh wow. That's even crazier then if that's the case. Legally he should be totally screwed, having no obligation to "protect" his neighbor's property... unless his name is George, which it isn't.

Ah, no sorry my bad. It looks like the guy was the father to the kid who had initially played the prank.

I get the impression that you have a real issue with gun owners

As a foreigner, I must say that I have an issue with gun owner.
Civilians should not be allowed to own gun. Then again, I live in France where there is not 2nd amendment so my point of view isn't the one of an US citizen and culturally I just don't understand so forgive me to speak out of context.
There is enough people killed without reason by law enforcement and thugs to add trigger happy civilians to the equation.
I respect USA laws, each country is sovereign in its land, this is only the opinion of a no name stranger.

I very much do. Because the "responsible gun owners" WAY too often turn out to be not responsible for much of anything.

But the police would never get there in time to save him from the eggs. It's better to just shoot at them first.

That's what I thought, but still, this guy has a teenager, he knows how dumb they are and the stupid things they do.

Kids TP'ing your house is not even close to ok to opening fire on them in retaliation especially while they were running away.

I do. It's generally the mentality behind it. I say, you don't have the right to shoot anyone because you're paranoid or scare easily. In response, I have been told on numerous occasions that I don't own a gun because I'm probably too ugly to rape, and as such, I wouldn't have to worry about defending myself against rapists.

Don't tell the NRA that. They think MORE guns is the answer, so this vandalism could have turned out into a wild west shootout with WAY more casualties.

Maybe he made some sort of threat against them.

Like I said before, read up the home protection laws for your state. It could really save your life.

This sounds like a real tragedy, but I can't see them getting him on murder charges. I wonder how this would have played if the gun owner was white and the victim black? Would they have charged him like the black gun owner?

Because eggs and TP are so deadly dangerous.

Wasn't even his perimeter. But way to defend the killer...again.

People have the right to own guns here in the US and that's not going to change anytime soon. And, as with any cross section of society, there are going to be some real idiots. Some of whom should never be allowed to own a firearm, look at one or even draw a picture of one. Making broad generalizations says more about the person making them than the point they're trying to make. Guns don't kill people, people do. And not everyone who owns one is a moron, like this guy
