This they should "both be white" or "both be black" thing must be hard for mixed-race families to deal with in real life. Judging by various comments all over mixed-raced families seems to be an alien concept to most.

OR.....it could be that some people have read for around 50 years that they are not from a mixed race family and are instead both Caucasian.

That post was about the difficulty in believing in mixed race family audiences are said to have.

People are saying audiences wouldn't get it, that adoption or step-siblings is too strange a concept. That's a society problem imo.

Now If it was me casting I would always try to find an actor of same race from comics but that's not the death knell for me.

Michael Clarke Duncan was great as kingpin even though he was black.lawrence Fishburne may be black but played a classic character like Perry white well.I came to accept a black moneypenny well In Skyfall. They even did good job of showing "Origin" of the Bond and Moneypenny flirtious relationship.Michael Jordan has been called very good actor by people and Is much sought after.I am willing to give him chance as Johnny.

The US has a president that comes from multi-racial family.A multi-racial family Isn't so crazy In 2014/2015.

Race aside, I actually like this casting choice. He was amazing in Fruitvale Station and Chronicle, and I can definitely see him with a Johnny Storm type persona. Plus, he previously voiced Cyborg in Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, so he has some experience with superheroes.

Or that they could easily both be blood related.

Yep, not hard to imagine them being siblings, if you look beneath the surface

I have to agree.

I don't think Evans is great but he's still pretty damn good. I don't get all the hype towards MBJ.

The news division of Fox will be all over this as will Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh because well....let's just say that they aren't fans of the minority.

Me personally, I could care less if one is white and the other is black. I'm smart enough to know that they are likely step siblings.

Clearly, Fox is using the golden age Human Torch (though not a cyborg). People need to chill out.

If you think about it, a story about a brother and sister who are both astronauts and go on a mission together where they both gain cosmic powers is a little strange.

Michael B. Jordan is on the verge of being the "IT" actor of the moment. So this casting is probably the best thing this film has going for it? Because I honestly don't think there's been much of a public appetite for a FF reboot.

The idea of them both being kids of a mixed race family is *possible*, yes. . . but it'd be a little more credible if Sue didn't look like the product of Nazi eugenics programs.

i dont get why they didnt just cast a whie actor, why go through the trouble of saying they are step siblings of half siblings or adopted siblings or whatever.

Human Torch is black? Then how the hell is Susan Storm going to be his sister? Jesus how hard is it to just stick with the same race that they were in the comics?

Johnny is adopted.
Sue is adopted.
Both are adopted.
Same mother, different father.
Same father, different mother.

There's five explanations. Pick your favorite.

People are only making it overly complicated in an effort to reinforce the fact that it shouldn't happen.

It's literally probably the least complicated aspect of this movie.

You know, that the answer to which option will determine what type of relationship they have, right? It's not just about explaining HOW they're related, but how does their relationship effect them? IE, how early was adoption? Who was adopted? Was it a tragic occurence that caused it? Does being adopted make either of them feel inferior or defensive of the other? Etc.

And these answers are important to their character dynamic! So, they should have an answer.

Hopefully early on. There needs to be something that firmly cements their relationship as platonic. Otherwise there will be hanging tension, especially in the case of Johnny, who's a womanizer.
