Not much faith left in this after seeing how they're half-assing the Fantastic Four. I hope I'm wrong but at this point I'm just expecting more watered-down, DINO crap.

Do you know what Fox is spending on the new F4 by any chance?

This is the first time I've heard Donner mention PG-13 like it's an option or something. Keeping the same 50m budget as the R version makes this thing even more sketchy. The whole reason it's low budget is to get away with that rating. Which has been said many times to be the issue the studio has with the film.

The Wolverine was over double Deadpool's $50m budget, so I don't know why she's acting like this is the same standalone ordeal. TW's $120 million budget is closer to ensemble mutant films like X2 and First Class. Even Elektra would cost more then $50 million these days. If they can't even scrape that to make the R rated Deadpool film work, or throw in a bit more to make a visually entertaining PG-13 (sell out) version, then that's pretty friggen lame. There's at least 3 complicated fight scenes in the script that would greatly benefit from a higher budget for effects.

I definitely want it to be R-rated but I can see why they're having hesitations about it. It's only fair.

It would be one of the first R-rated superhero movies in the current movie landscape and that's a big gamble.

Deadpool should't cost more than $50m, unless you want it to be PG-13.

Would prefer the R but I'm still up for a PG-13 version, and I can understand the hesitation on an R for the studio. But that's the reason for the small 50m budget and Donner has always supported that R version. I would hope since it can have the larger audience with a PG-13 that they would be willing to spend more. It shouldn't have to be as cautious with that.

I guess the other thing is that it's been said it's not really in a position to do damage to the studio with the 50m budget even with the R. So it's not really as big of a gamble as long as it's that cheap. It's coming off like they just don't know what to do. Hopefully the waiting has more to do with introducing Deadpool in X-Force first. Which would be a solid move and show some planning.

Agreed. I think they would be smart to introduce him in X-Force first THEN spin him off into his own movie afterwards. At least that way it gives the audience a chance to connect with the character first.

The problem with going right into his own solo movie is that "Are the audiences going to care about this character they know absolutely nothing about?" will play a factor.

Fox hasn't built up the same cred as Marvel Studios has so they can't just go right into a spin-off or solo movie with any character and expect it to be huge.

I think Deadpool should be introduced in X-Force first and then have him spin off in his own film. It's a good business decision and makes sense. As cool as he is Deadpool is still obscure to most audiences and they'll need a reason to invest their time and money in the character. If they do X-Force right that would be the best opportunity.

I agree that's the way to go. X-Force should definitely sell more due to being an ensemble of mutants and larger film but Deadpool is pretty well known now . As far as major X-Force players he's the most popular minus Logan. He has had mass video game and internet exposure, strong multiple solo comic sales, a film apperance and cartoons (Ultimate Spidey, Hulk VS). The only thingss he really is missing tht can increase his popularity minus X-Force is the solo film or a decent sized role in Apocalypse. He's in a better position right now in terms of popularity then say Iron Man, Kick Ass, Blade, Ghost Rider, Punisher and GOTG were before their films were announced. As far as pre movie exposure ya cant really ask for more cause he's been in just about every form of media and continues to sell solid and trend since 08.

The R rating is limiting, but the thing is pretty much guaranteed at the least immediate cult status. Really not much to lose imo as long as he is handled they way he should be. Even if it's R the kiddies are gonna love this one on video.

Disney/Marvel might be the reason why a Deadpool didn't happen yet. Apparently they don't want Fox to make a R-Rated movie, but instead they want to make it PG-13 due to Deadpool's increased popularity:

Rumor: Disney and Marvel may be the real reason a R-Rated Deadpool has not being green lit yet

I'm not sure if Disney has any word when it comes to Fox's Marvel adaptations, so I'm calling BS on this.

Yeah I don't buy that. Marvel has been doing R rated Deadpool video game stuff and Mature comics pretty constantly within the past year. Regardless I think Fox and Disney/Marvel both would prefer Deadpool to be PG-13 because that's more $$$$$.

Donner, Miller, Millar, Reynolds and Reese have been the ones allegedly trying to coax the studio into the R. So we know it's confirmed from them that Fox has their own issues with the rating, and that's been a big problem with it moving forward.

I hate to say it, but I just don't see any DP movie happening for a long time. Like...10 years long. All we get is the same damn response- "we're working on it, it's gonna be fantastic."

Just don't get that though
it could be a lower budget r-rated comedy, and a bunch of those have done fairly well lately
It'd be like The Hangover with low-cost superpowers

What part of that description is not appealing to modern movie studios??

The part where "we could be doing the exact same thing except making it so more people could watch it and double or triple our profits".

The movie's going to be low budget any way, they just want to squeeze more money out of it.

yeah but what PG-13 live action comedies have been big hits in the past decade??

R is the way to go on comedies, especially in this post-Apatow Era

Do kids even watch comedies nowadays?? dont think they really do...

The thing is Fox has other priorities.

They have been making these X-Men movies since the late 90s and still to this day, the characters we are seeing infront of the movie posters are the ones who were in the 1st movie - Wolverine, Magneto and Professor X.

Instead of using their time/money to develop, go into production, release/market a movie for Deadpool/X-Force/Gambit... Fox is likely to prefer to make a movie with their already tested characters.

Don't kid yourself into thinking they are treating this as a comedy. It's a superhero flick for them.

yeah I know
but it should be a comedy
only comic fans would really appreciate a true-to-spirit Deadpool film, it would be lost on everyone else

The other option is they make some cheesy pg-13 superhero flick, and then Marvel Comics, wanting everything to tie back to the damn movies, would have to tone down the comics thereby sapping Deadpool of what makes him interesting

so if it's PG-13 action flick or nothing, I'm saying nothing.

I say they could shoot it as an R rated movie. They just bleep and blur/cut away for theaters. Release it unrated on DVD and BluRay.

They could have some extra scenes in the theatrical cut, where Wade comments on the bleeping or the noises covering the swearing and the fact that the audience can't see the blood and hard violence.

It's stupid... but I'm desperate.
