Based off last film, I'd go with Surtur with some kind of Ragnarok storyline for Thor 3. My #2 would be Hela. My #3 actually would be Cul Borson and loosely base it off Fear Itself. I think while the crossover was mediocre, it could be more interesting in a film.

Any ideas on a Wrecking Crew plot or any good actor picks?

Good point,

I'm not really a Thor fan, but I have to admit that Thor has one of the best "rogues gallery" of any superhero, his villains are an interesting bunch, not the most complex (except Loki) , but certainly very colourful and the source of
many great stories.

The Wrecking crew are definitely a great idea, and the Absorbing Man, and the Enchantress, and the Executioner. I would love to see those guys on the big screen.

BUT.....if we're talking Ragnarok (n roll) we have to get all Simonson on this bad-boy, which means we need......

SURTUR !!!!!!!

It's a logical follow up to the Dark Elves, and that classic story was also famous for a Thor + Loki + Odin team up, which would be a great way to
resolve their issues.

To be honest, I don't know the God-butcher (art looks cool though) or Desak or Perrikus, so really, they don't really count for me. Besides, the Simonson stories are classics for a reason, (weren't the Dark Elves superb in TDW ? I thought so)

The Celestials ? They're basically God and his cousins, and not necessarily villains, so probably not what I'd consider villains for Thor to take on.

But Surtur, he's straight out of Norse Mythology's version of hell (and looks like it too). Can't you see Hemsthor, Hiddleston and Hopkins taking on a 1000 foot tall demon....sheer awesomeness !

Agreed!

I think the plot should be something like: Loki gets in over his head as ruler of Asgard, with Surtur's forces approaching. So he confides in Thor, who subsequently wants to hammer-smash Loki's face in. Of course, Thor can't do that, because only Loki knows where/how to retrieve Odin, who is hidden away in another of the 9 Realms. They retrieve Odin just in time to confront Surtur in Asgard. Meanwhile, Jane is doing something sciencey off-screen...

Well I know it probably won't happen but I thought Kurse was the best character in movie. also Malekith was fine we don't need Big A listers all the time.

I think Kurse will be back & not defeated yet & I would not mind if Kurse came back to form & lead The Wrecking Crew to whatever plot/story they would translate for a sequel.

Again I found nothing disapointing about Thor The Dark World & all characters seemed they knew what they were doing.

Yeah ! Good thought, I think that would work as a plot, I can't see Loki killing Odin. I just expect he's in deep freeze or something like that. Quick, call up those Marvel guys and see if you can get a writing credit. !

BTW I just noticed that Simonson has borrowed from the great epic poem
about Horatius:

"And how can man die better. Than facing fearful odds, For the ashes of his fathers, And the temples of his Gods."

That guy really wrote and drew the best Thor stories ever. Don't keep up with Thor much, but somehow I doubt anything written since Simonson left has approached the epic grandeur of those stories (sure big bad guys have come and gone, God-Slayers, God-Butchers, God-Bakers, God-Candlestick-Makers) but Simonson's stories were gripping and his artwork was leaps and bounds ahead of its time.

So, go Surtur vs Thor +Odin+Loki in Thor 3.

Good catch! Uncle Walt was an educated guy.

As a life-long Thor fan, I totally agree (and that's pretty much the common consensus among Thor fans, too). Simonson really knew how to write the grandeur of the gods as well as the drama of everyday, mortal life, and how to play them off each other. Definitely the best Thor's ever had...

Tru dat ! Good comment.

I'm not really a Thor fan (more of a DC guy), but I really paid attention to Simonson's work on Thor during the 80's. It was massive, the best Thor has ever been. I remember he did this sort of side story with Beta Ray Bill against these guys in armour suits that could turn into playing cards (it was weird) and were just dupes of the Titanium man......man it looked so cool.

They gave the man a credit for TDW "Malekith created by Walt Simonson"
lets hope they call him up when they're scripting Thor 3 (and of course give you a call too !).

Anyway, it's gotta be Odin and Sons (and maybe Beta Ray Bill) vs Surtur. That would be beyond epic. (I'm looking forward to Thor 3 more than the next Avengers). Can you imagine the prologue ?....Simonson's depiction of the forging of the sword Twilight ! Awesomenosity !

Cheers !

BTW: Simonson did the best Cross-over comic of the 80's
Xmen-Teen Titans.

I could totally see that. Since the first two Thor films started with a "time before time" style prologue, Thor 3 should do the same to keep the parallel structure. Do you think it should feature Buri, Thor's great-grandfather?

Thor 1 prologue- father Odin
Thor 2 prologue- grandfather Bor
Thor 3 prologue- great grandfather Buri

Or would that start getting hokey?

I respectfully disagree (obviously, since I was talking up Surtur ). For a female villain (which I agree would be great), I would much rather have Amora. I would do it something like this:

Loki-Odin has two new "advisors"/enforcers, which the people of Asgard have nicknamed his Enchantress and his Executioner in hushed voices. Amora and Skurge would really be serving Amora's self interest, of course. Maybe Skurge makes a sacrifice play when Surtur arrives, dying as a hero and mirroring his death in the books. But maybe not...

Other things on my Thor 3 wish list include:
-Ulik appearing in some small capacity (maybe like the Kronan in TDW, or slightly more, but not a huge role.)
-Sif on "protect Jane" bodyguard duties, just to see some more interactions with them. It doesn't have to be a full on love triangle as I know that would irk some people, but more tension like the glance Sif gave Jane in Asgard. Perhaps Sif is the one who comes to Earth to tell Thor that all is not well in Asgard and there is dissent thanks to Odin's change in behavior. Thor asks Sif to stay and watch over Jane while he returns to confront Odin.
-More of the 9 realms, of course. And that means less Midgard. However, I understand that some of the general audience connects with the Earth scenes, much to my chagrin.
-If i didn't think it would get too cluttered, I would also say that I want to see Thor visit Balder in Nornheim, where he has been an ambassador to Karnilla. This would explain where he's been for two films. Of course, as I said, too many things from the wish list would make the film too cluttered or unappealing for non-fans.
-Finally, the confrontation with Surtur should be the largest scale of anything seen in the MCU films so far, until it is topped by Thanos in Avengers 3.
-oh, and smoother editing/transitions (one of my only real complaints from TDW, as the humor didn't ruin it for me like it did for some people). The beginning of TDW was really choppy, so I'd like a more steady hand in that regard. Of course, that might require marvel to give it a longer runtime, which might not be in the cards. Regardless, the step up in quality between X-Men and X-Men 2, or even Iron Man 2 and Iron Man 3 (in my opinion), is the type of improvement in quality I'd like to see here.

I'll add more as they come to me...

I like the old "time before time" prologues, not sure if Buri is going to far, but it should at least tell Surtur's story and show us the forging of the sword.

Yeah, that could work. They're really missing the Enchantress in the Thor films, The Executioner, not so much.

Definitely the Sif/Jane thing, that was a potential sub-plot that should have been touched on more in TDW. Personally, I find Jane pretty boring as a character, and a rivalry with Sif could develop her character a bit more and make her more interesting.

Balder is definitely missing. He'd be a great character to bring in, sort of a "little brother" to Thor. That's the thing about the Thor comics ( a bit like the X-Men), there's such a wide cast of characters, it's hard to fit them all in.

The battle in Thor 3, should pretty much destroy Asgard, so Surtur is the way to go. And I agree, it should be apocalyptic. Any way it plays out, it should feature Thor, Loki and Odin in a final team up. Just IMO.

Whatever happens, less Darcy please !

I'd like to see both Surtur, it's the most logical step to take after Malekith.

Btw, would that team up even be possible? I read that Anthony Hopkins has no plans to return for a third film. But, if the story calls for it then money will ultimately be the deciding factor, I suppose.

As good of a villain as Loki is, I think either Surtur or Hela would be a nice change of pace. Regardless, Loki is gonna end up smack dab in the middle of everything anyway. haha

I'm just quoting myself to say that in the T:TDW commentary that I'm watching right now, Kevin Feige says "there's a cover of a Walt Simonson comic with Odin and Thor and Loki all together fighting for the same cause, and we've always said 'Boy we'd love to see that moment; we'd love to get a bit of that."

He's talking about the Thor/Loki fight against Malekith on Svartalfheim, but it's nice to know that the powers that be are as keen on this image as I am. There is hope for seeing this!

You know, after seeing AOS, I'd love to see Lorelei show up in Thor 3 (I really liked her as a villain). Not as the MAIN threat, but as one nonetheless. They set up the perfect way to do that and if nothing else it'd actually give Lady Sif something to contribute to the movies, which she hasn't gotten to do in the first two.
