While it certainly shows its age, I have to agree. Just a fantastic film all around.

I can't see it this way. The turn-back time device was just too much. Beyond that, most of how Luthor and his minions operated was not sensible.

I also have to join with those who hate the not good at spelling Lois gag. I really was not that impressed with the movie at all.

Ok, I have to admit I just like MOS and having a Lois who is competent, and can figure out who the Super-powered alien really is.

What are you talking about? Since the mid-1980s Clark has been the main role, Superman the disguise, which is the exact opposite of S:TM.

The movie has so much cheese and at the same time so little tension or emotion I find it very hard to 'get into' so to speak. Its still a good movie, but mainly because of the performances with what they were given, and IMO, it has been surpassed at least more than 15 times.
I like cheesy, seeing as I am a big fan of Lois and Clark, and that is both cheesy and campy, especially the villains.

Still, I thought the ways Clark Kent changes into Superman in S:TM made it too likely someone would discover him changing.

L&C did some homage, but they also did things different. I liked that Clark was competent. You also got to see why Clark loved Lois. It was a more believable dynamic. I also thought Luthor was much better done.

The reverse time and fix everything ending was just a step too far.

I don't know about 'Still the greatest superhero movie', but it's still the best Superman movie, for me.

And his Superman takes itself quite seriously, especially in the first half. It’s got this pathos and beauty to it. I haven’t watched the movie since I made Superman Returns – when you’ve lived and breathed something like that for a while, you’d rather see something new. But I will always love Superman: The Movie. I think it’s a beautiful story – even something as absurd as spinning around the Earth to turn time backwards!

I haven't seen STM for a while, but it's definitely a classic I have respect for.

It's the most groundbreaking superhero film. Paving the way for Batman '89 (which was also groundbreaking) and basically led to the genre of superhero movies we have now. It's the grandaddy of the modern superhero movie, basically.

So we should lop it on top of an undeserving pedestal because of that? Like whats happened with Citizen Kane, how its considered the greatest largely because of its contributions to modern film making rather than how good it is as a film?

You wanna talk about putting things on an undeserving pedestal?

You? The guy that thinks MOS is "the Godfather of comic book films"?

Usually, think the question of whether or not STM deserves to be put on a pedestal is valid...usually. Not when comes from a guy who's essentially just mad that his favorite Superman movie got bashed by critics.

The same critics who claim Thor 2 and Iron Man 3 are far better films then Man of Steel. I dont really care about those guys, they've lost my respect.

That's strange. Both STM and Kane are still great movies.

IMHO Reeve as Kent/Superman is what made STM great.

I think if MOS got TDK level praise, you wouldnt say "I dont care about those guys", nor would you be complaining about STM being put on a pedestal.

And its hypocritical to complain about classic films being put on a underserved pedestal when you have referred to MOS as "the godfather of CBMs".

That's a huge part. But Richard Donner set the tone and took Superman and his origin seriously when no one else thought it could be possible (or a good idea).

I think a lot of fans underrate just how serious STM is. You see terms like "Camp" thrown at this film way too much.

I don't like Superman: The Movie much, but i respect the s*** out of it, deserves every praise it can get and definitelly superior to The Man of Steel, a film that i actually enjoyed more.

Superman the Movie and Citizen Kane are good movies. Are they genre leading classics like many claim? I dont think so.

James Cameron said Gravity is the greatest space movie ever, (essentially the Godfather of space movies), ahead of 2001, ahead of Aliens, ahead of Star Wars etc. Do you agree with him or is he hypocritical?

Again, I like Superman the Movie, it would likely make my top 10 comic book movies of all time list, I just feel some aspects of the film havent aged well at all, preventing it from being considered the greatest.

Yes, they are genre leading classics because they set the standart for other films to come.

Then think again because the universal consensus is that they are classics.
