so i'm going through some old papers and i found some from school, particularly english classes haha

remember those poetry lessons everyone hated? i got pretty good marks on these

i got great marks for a poem i had to write and this was my teacher's favorite part:

like a broken record
we're going round and round in circles
no end to the problem, no resolution
just an ever-going revolution
I'm getting dizzy.

but i can't for the life of me remember what this was written for haha

The room blurs and becomes hazy,
My eye lids get heavy and become lazy,
Like a pendulum that sways to and fro,
The air becomes stagnant and undergoes,
Cooling against calm heat of breath,
Sleep. Sleep will comfort thyself.
Sleep. Until I awake thee again...

I've got an idea to kick off a story: A sage saves the protagonist from inquiring strangers; the sage has good reason to believe that the protagonist has a great destiny ahead of him. The strangers end up killing the protagonist's family. Our protagonist decides that his loved ones wouldn't have died if not for the old sage. Thus he sets out to take revenge against the sage.

How does this sound as a hook?

Time after time,
Broken like a dream,
Time after time,
Gone like a ghost,
Time after time,
Epic like a mythical spiel,
Time after time,
I will find you in my arms' hold,
As this is the greatest love story ever told...

Hey, guys. I'm a writer too. Here's the link to my blog where I put most of what I write.. I'm more of a fiction and nonfiction guy.

Do any of you struggle breaking through your writers block because you don't wanna start something you feel you won't finish?

Right now that's my dilemma. I have a bunch of ideas, a script series, short stories, novels, etc.. But as soon as I sit down and commit to writing, I find any distraction not to.

I almost never finish what I start. It shouldn't stop you from starting it though.

I have a short story I'm writing that takes place in the future and is about an older man who is succumbing to his heart disease, and asks his granddaughter to chronicle his life's story. The story involves his childhood and his family coping with his father's PTSD after the war then about him as a student in high school where he develops a romance with a male teacher when he's sixteen. In order to keep the romance a secret, he tells his friends and family that he's getting help with tutoring. His father dies and he breaks it off with the teacher and joins the military in honor of his father. Then he develops a romantic relationship with a fellow soldier, but keep it a secret.

I've been taking the writing of my new book very slowly, primarily to spend more time with my family but also because I didn't know where it was going. The story had shifted since I began it and I wasn't sure on how I wanted it all to play out, so I've been taking my time writing the parts I knew were the same. Well, today I got an idea for the ending and it gave me chills (in a good way). I can't wait to get there, so now it's time to kick it into high gear!

Hey, can I get your guys' opinion on book titles? I used to call the book Janie's Gift and then Grandfather's Letters but have scrapped those due to my not liking Grandfather's Letters and the idea behind the title Janie's Gift has shifted and it's no longer relevant to the story. Now I'm leaning toward either Luck's Addition (the name of the poverty-ridden location of the story) or Remembering Roses due to a plot point that comes and goes throughout the story. Not knowing the story, which of those two titles strikes more interest? The story, to the best of my guess at the moment, will be a Romantic Tragedy or Contemporary Romance (one or the other, I need research them to see which is most accurate).

I'm nearly finished with the first draft of my first novel. I'm both excited and nervous reading and editing it in a few months. There are things more enjoyable than writing IMO.

Do you have title yet? Are you willing to post a short synopsis?

Basically it's about a guy who has super powers that uses them for his own personal gain. Over time he realizes that he needs to use them to save people instead.

I'm still working on the title.

Make that two for Remembering Roses.
It definitely sticks out as a title, very memorable

I have an idea about a sitcom taking place at a failing law firm, but as I was developing the story it turned into Cheers with an interracial Sam and Diane.

I've got to say, as a writer, making your character's lives hell is such a rewarding experience.

I'm finally back to this thread from my busy work schedule. Thank you, everyone for your advice on not giving in to the distraction which challenges me constantly. I'm trying to do my best to find my writing into my busy schedule.

Anyways, I will return to school for my English degree in hopefully, Creative Writing this fall and my goal is to go into the MFA program in Creative Writing after college.

I've finished writing the lyrics for my album. Now off to write the music for it. I have an official title for the album. It's called Frivolous and it features 13 tracks with two bonus ones.

Do you intend to get them out of it pretty soon or are you enjoying it so much that you might want to extend their hellish experiences for awhile longer?
