DC Year One: Character Application:

Character Name: Princess Diana of Themyscira

Alignment (Hero, Villain, Walking the Line): Hero

Character Speech Color and Font (actually say what it is, like Blue Comic Sans): Palatino Linotype, Red, Bold

Powers and Abilities: Diana, like her fellow Amazons, carries the bloodline of immortals in her veins. While they are far from immortal themselves, each Amazon is far stronger and faster than any normal human, and possesses the ability to heal from physical injury in seconds. Coupled with years of intense physical training in various forms of combat, the Amazons are some of the most formidable warriors on the planet.

In addition to her innate physical abilities and her elite training, Diana herself is bolstered by an arsenal of weaponry and armor that defy scientific explanation. She typically carries with her a sword which can cut through titanium with ease, and a pair of silver gauntlets capable of deflecting all known forms of energy or matter. Her most intriguing instrument, however, is a coil of golden rope which Diana wields like a lasso, which can vary in length seemingly on command, and by all reports cannot be broken.

Character Origin/Backstory:

The Iranians and Scythians once referred to them as the Olorpata.

The Iliad refers to them as the Antianeirai.

The Egyptians once called them the Bana Mighdall.

Most, however, know them simply as the Amazons.

Famed in myth for their prowess as warriors, the Amazons had fought through ancient times against an endless slew of would-be invaders. Armies, monsters, so-called 'heroes' of the day, all took their turn attempting to march upon the beaches of the lost island of Themyscira, only to be sent away bloodied and humiliated, if they returned at all. Of course, the myths and legends tell different tales, of Hercules and Theseus 'taming' the warrior women and other such nonsense, but history is often written by those whose egos need satisfaction.

As it stands, the Amazons were rightly the stuff of legend, each one stronger and faster than a dozen men. They claimed, like many of the heroes of the time, to be descended from Olympus, daughters of Hera and Demeter and Athena. Despite being peaceful by nature, the Amazons were fierce in defense of their home, their physical might and advanced tactics making them indomitable on the field of battle. While the Greeks and their neighboring cultures dismissed the matriarchal society as backwards savages, the society of Themyscira thrived, a vibrant hub of culture and science, with libraries that would have dwarved Alexandria's. There was a time when Themyscira was the light of the civilized world....

.....but even the brightest candle can be snuffed out.

When the god-king Xerxes laid his eyes on the lands of the Mediterranean, he had seen the devastation the Amazons had dealt his father's armies in their failed attempt to take their island. Opting instead to avoid the invincible fighting women altogether, he allied himself with the sorceress Circe, who besieged Themyscira with monsters summoned from the long lost Primordial Gods. In time, the Amazons drove the monsters back into the darkness, but their losses were so great that the beaches of Themyscira were stained red with blood. As the Amazonian blood soaked into the sands, Circe worked her true magic: cutting Themyscira, and thus the Amazons themselves, off from the rest of the world, so that only those of divine blood could set foot on the island, and no one of Amazonian blood could leave it.

Over time, the Amazons faded from the memory of the world, becoming little more than myth, no more real than Medusa or Pegasus. History would rewrite itself, the gods and monsters of old dissipating like morning fog.

While the Amazons lived on, their culture stagnated, isolated from the world. They still maintained the power of the gods, but their technology, once the envy of the world, became antiquated, their defiance of foreign powers giving way to paranoia towards outsiders. While the few men and women of divine bloodlines continued to have children and keep their people going, nothing new had come to the island of Themyscira in over three thousand years.....

.....until a baby girl was found on their shores.

Taken to the reigning Queen Hippolyta, the baby foundling was adopted as her daughter, and named Diana. By law, the Queen taking her in made Diana the crown Princess, a fact that was not unnoticed by Hippolyta's political rivals; after being unable to produce a daughter for many years, the Queen had seemingly plucked an heiress out of thin air to secure her dynasty.

While the Amazons could not conceive of spilling the blood of another, there were many who attempted to challenge Diana's right to the throne. These challenges were swiftly put down by Queen Hippolyta.....and as she grew out of childhood, by Princess Diana herself.

Not an outcast but never truly accepted, Diana grew up among warriors and nobles that would bow before her, yet mutter a curse under their breath at the thought of being ruled by an outsider. Rather than discouraging her or making her bitter, it made the Princess bolder, always determined to gain the acceptance of her Amazon sisters. Behind her stately demeanor and serene disposition, a fire grew in Diana's heart, her spirit growing adventurous, competitive, and wild.

Diana is now twenty-one years old, and finally old enough to compete in the Amazons' ceremonial war games. The winner of the grueling tournament gains the status of celebrity, and the admiration of all Amazons as their Champion. And the Princess has her very heart and soul set on victory.

Why this character?

Because Wonder Woman is freaking awesome and I love playing her.

What can you bring to the RPG?

Intricate plots, strong character work, badass action sequences, and I can recite Weird Al Yankovic's "Albuquerque" from memory.

Provide a short sample post as your desired character, in three paragraphs or more and featuring at least one line of dialogue:

"Amazons, prepare yourselves!"

The ring is roughly twenty paces across, a circle of bone-white sand. The midsummer sun beats down on us mercilessly, but the heat is not what is making me sweat at the moment.

"I have to say, Princess, I'm amazed you entered the games," says my opponent, a broad-shouldered warrior clad in a dark red tunic. "The arena is no place for the Queen's daughter."

Her name is Aleka, and I've known her for some time. She is one of my mother's royal guard, but in truth is loyal to Philippus. I've heard Aleka spit my name as if it were poison, like my very presence was an insult to her. While she chooses her words carefully now, her message is clear: you are not welcome here.

"The ring of honor is a place for any Amazon," I say, meeting the larger woman's glare.

"Amazons, salute!"

We step towards each other, meeting in the center of the arena. Aleka stands a head and a half taller than me, with arms nearly as thick around as my legs. She looks down at me and sneers.

"In truth, I was hoping you'd be foolish enough to do this, little foundling," she says quietly, out of the earshot of our audience. "I've waited a long time to show you what it's like to face a true warrior."

"Well, if you manage to find a true warrior," I say, matching her sneer with a defiant smirk, "Be sure to send her my way after I'm done with you."

Aleka's sneer fades, and we bow, neither of us lowering our eyes.

We take five steps back, and draw our swords.

"BEGIN!"

The larger woman charges, letting out an angry snarl. I hold my ground, sword at the ready.

All my life, those like Aleka have cursed me behind my back, lied to me through their teeth, all telling me through back-handed means, "You are not one of us. You are not worthy."

It's time that they receive a rude awakening.

I meet Aleka's charge with a deft parry, followed by a counterattack of my own....and the Amazons cheer as we play the song of clashing steel.

I have been on SuperHero Hype for awhile, but never used the forums--or signed up for them. Are there any requirements for joining an RPG? Or, should I simply create and submit a character?

Welcome to the forums, GreyGhost! It's always nice to see some new blood.

Requirements vary from game to game, but typically most of the RPGs (including this one) are open enrollment-- you can sign up and play regardless of your status on the forum. Other than that, just check the rules at the beginning post of the thread, and check the roster to see who's already taken.

Character Name: Wesley Dodds (The Sandman)

Alignment (Hero, Villain, Walking the Line): Hero

Character Speech Color and Font (actually say what it is, like Blue Comic Sans): Book Antiqua Dark Green

Powers and Abilities: Wesley Dodds does not have the powers of most of the heroes coming into the world. His single power is limited to nightmares, prophecies of violent crimes. Other than his dreams Wesley Dodds is human. He has trained his body and mind vigorously through out his life in an attempt to quiet the nightmares as he slept. He has trained and various martial arts, engineering, literature, medicine, herbal lore, and even origami at one point. When he eventually learned they were indeed prophecies he started to study criminology, forensics, and fire arms. He has purposed his life to become a weapon and save as many of the people in his dreams as he could. He has been able to do this with the help of his families fortune. With the money and his years of varied skills he has built custom equipment to use in his war on his nightmares. He has crafted a teleportation device, a gas gun, grapnel gun, and high tech gas mask/night vision mask.

Character Origin/Backstory: Wesley Dodds was born into wealth and privilege. His parents were financiers that both came from old money, many said it was more a corporate merger than a marriage. But, in truth, they truly did love each other. Unfortunately Wesley never met his mother as her labor was difficult and fraught with complications. Wesley's father was ever protective of his son and raised him as best he knew how, and Wesley had a happy childhood--until the night the nightmares started.

When Wesley was ten years old the world trembled for a moment, almost nobody noticed, but some did. In that moment the being known as Dream was locked away from the Silver City, and he was unable to deliver the dreams to the sleepers of the world. In his momentary absence the universe had to compensate and pieces of him were given to some sleepers. In the instant Wesley had his first nightmare, and saw a woman being killed as she tried to soothe a sleeping baby. Wesley woke, screaming. And, no one could make the dreams stop.

Wesley's father took him to every doctor and specialist in the country, none of them had any answers, and the nightmares never stopped. Soon his father started looking for other chances to help his son, and they started to travel. Wesley's father drug him through every place that might offer help. As the years wore on Wesley learned everything he could, he wanted to ware himself out, to sleep without dreams, and hopefully never remember the dreams he did have. He learned martial arts, meditation techniques, read every book he could find, did complicated maths and science experiments, anything and everything to tire himself out. None of it worked. The harder he tried to get rid of the dreams the worse they became, the more vivid, and the more ve:
iolent. Soon, Wesley was afraid to go to sleep and instead of wearing himself out he did everything he could to stay awake. He would go a day with out sleeping, then days, and once he lasted a week before his body shut down. That time the nightmares were the worst, and almost broke Wesley.

As his father took him through Asia they finally found hope. An ancient woman approached him and stared into his eyes, murmuring about a ancient city of silver, mentioned dreams as if they were a person, the evil of man, and power of hope. Wesley's father listened to her as she brewed a strange tea. The tea was spicy, the steam was green, and Wesley was soon unconscious. The dream came to him, but he wasn't afraid, he saw with new clarity, and he wasn't afraid. He was able to move around the in the dream, slow it down, speed it up, turn it and twist it, and he knew it was more than a dream they had all been more than a dream. He knew that he had to do something and convinced his father to take him home, after 18 years of travel. He started school again, and studied criminology, psychology, and engineering. He was a gifted student and excelled in his endeavors. But, he was driven by a desire to save everyone he would ever save in his dreams, but he wouldn't be in time.

He graduated with the highest honors and his dad had never been prouder of him. Wesley was set to become a ciminal investigator, where he could stay on top of the cities problems, but that night he had a another dream. He saw his father being brutalized, tortured, and killed. He didn't know where or when, but when he called home he was told his father never arrived after the graduation. His body was found three days later, he had been murdered by a killer calling himself the Tarantula. Wesley's career was cut short before it began as he took over for his father. Managing a large firm was actually fairly easy, as most of his father's assistants really did all the work. Wesley stayed in the city, and started using his new connections. Contractors were hired from out of state, and senstive work he did alone, he turned the top floor on and old Brownstone into his new “Theatre.” He created his mask, gas gun, and other gear he would need to save the people of his dreams. He herbs the used to control his dreams and leanred they could be used to put people into a deep sleep. He was finally ready to use his curse to try and do some good.

Why this character?
I love the Sandman. He is one of my favorite characters in all of his incarnations. He is cursed with witnessing death every night, and even when he saves them he's forced with always remembering the death he saw. This creates a character that is damaged by death every night while striving to live.

What can you bring to the RPG?
Intricate plots can develop around recurring villians in pulpesque-detective-stories, and exciting intircate fight scenes.

Provide a short sample post as your desired character, in three paragraphs or more and featuring at least one line of dialogue:

Wesley stood on top of an old Brownstone, the wing tugging his blonde hair. The dark lenses of his mask reflected emerald from the streetlights below. He stared through the window across the alley. Two small children were tucked, and sleeping. The girl with little golden ringlets falling across her freckled face, and tumbling onto the nose of a Teddy Bear. She held him like he was her nighttime protector, as is any Teddy Bear worth his fluffed stuff. In the bunk above her was her older sister with straighter, darker, hair. She didn't cltuch a Teddy bear, she was too old for that. They were sound asleep, peaceful and silent. But, he could still hear their screams.

The echoes of his dream were vivid as he stood there, they were always vivid, and always would be. He could remember every dream and every person he had watched die, but tonight they would live. The time flashed in his goggles, thirty seconds. He reached down to his thigh and twisted the gun in it's holster. As he withdrew it a small barbed point extended from the barrel.

Twenty Seconds.

He extended his arm and pulled the trigger slowly. With a woosh the small hook flew from the gun and sunk into the brick at the top of the opposite building. He tugged the line taught as his goggles started to were through the spectrums. With flashes they changed moving from night vision, to star light, to infra red, and finally to thermal. They each settled and started to merge into a single image. He could see the man climbing the fire escape.

Fifteen Seconds.

The man was young, tired looking, dirty, and disheveled. He had tattoos on his arms, neck, hands, and face—one a tear drop. The goggles whirred and zoomed (following pupilary movement commands) in the mans face, as a rain drop struck his cheek. His eyes, his pupils, he was strung out on an unknowable number of drugs. He was finally on their landing. The window was the only thing that sttod in his way.

Ten Seconds.

His broken fingernails settled on the window. He tugged, and the window started to slide open and rain started to fall.

Five Seconds.

The Sandman stood watching the count down as the rain started to pour. Sheets of rain fell between himself and the man now sneaking through the open window.

Zero Seconds.

In an instant the line fastened to his belt and the Sandman soared through the air, cutting the rain, and smashing through the glass of the window. The glass shattered sending sparkling shards through the midnight air. Two young girls screamed. The Sandmans body was ready for the glass and for the line line to go taught. The tension snapped the Sandmans body, carrying him up in a small arch. He unhooked the line with a flick of his finger as his kness struck the man between the shoulder blades. He rode the force, grabbed man's collar, knees either side of his spine as he pulled the mans head back. The was a cracking of bone as his shoulder blades buckled, a snap as his collar bone slammed into the door jam, and whipped his head back as the Sandman's free hand struck his temple. The man barely felt the pain and never felt the floor as it came up to meet him. The girls screamed again, as a door slammed open down the hallway. The Sandman stood, and looked at the girls. A hand went to his belt as he squeezed a small button.

Green gas billowed from his belt and filled the room. Through his mask he couldn't smell the spicy-earth smell of the gas, but a thump in the hall said it was working, and a teary eyed girl grasped her Teddy Bear as she fell asleep. The older sister fought the gas the longest and heard the man with glowing eyes speak.

“Sweet dreams, child.”

A phone call was made to the police, a man was found bound in the hallway as a mother checked on father and children, she didn't see the small paper swan on the man, but the police would. And, they would see many more.

Ooooh, Sandman! I don't think we've ever had someone give Mr. Dodds a whirl. I dig it!

Also, since it's been a day and nobody's put up a competing app, Diana is added to the roster.

Will finish this up tomorrow. Figured we could use another black hat.

DC Year One: Character Application:

Character Name: Doctor Jonathan Crane/Scarecrow

Alignment (Hero, Villain, Walking the Line): Villain

Character Speech Color and Font (actually say what it is, like Blue Comic Sans): Bold Microsoft Sans Sarif Brown

Powers and Abilities: Crane has no superhuman abilities of his own, but he is a genuine genius. Doctor Crane is an expert of psychological and psychiatric medicine, and has multiple degrees in both from top ranking schools. On top of this, he is also a master of chemistry, and using this he has concocted his patented Fear Gas. The gas gives Scarecrow's victims potent hallucinations of their worst fears, rendering them helpless. Through many doses he has taken himself, Crane is immune to the effects of the gas.

Johnathan is also is also an adept hand to hand combatant thanks to his time as a bare knuckle boxer as a young man.

Jonathan's Scarecrow suit is equipped with multiple ways of giving his enemies a dose of Fear Gas, from gas grenades to needles. Crane also carries with him a set of daggers.

Character Origin/Backstory:

Jonathan Crane was born in the Narrows of Gotham City to a blue collar family struggling to get by. His mother was a heroin addict, and his father was a city bus driver that often beat the two of them, creating a Pavlovian sense of fear in the boy evey time he heard hisfather returning from work. The taste and power of fear was intoxicating to the young boy, beginning his life long obsession with the feeling.

Crane hated his family, and often desired a more regal and respectable life growing up, but there was none of that in the Narrows. It was a dirty, stinking hell hole. Jonathan learned at an early age that it was necessary to fight to survive, and fought those that bullied him for his lanky frame quite often. While he was thin and lanky, he was surprisingly strong, and more often than not ended up on the winning side. Though he fascination with fear, Crane also tortured the bullies, finding out what they feared most and continuously subjecting them to it. He was investigated by his school due to these actions, but nothing concrete was ever proved.

When he wasn't getting in fights, Cran was working hard in school. He knew an education was his only ticket out of the hellish life he was trapped in. Crane succeeded with flying colors in academia, and graduated high school at the top of his class, and received a full ride to study the mind at the school of his choice. While at college, he also minored in chemistry, and began work on a weapon that would one day define him: Fear Toxin.

Crane began the project as a way to easily identify his patient's biggest fears to attempt to work through them. Once the toxin was perfected during Crane's time as a professor at Gotham university, he began testing on his students and patients. The toxin, however, had never been tested before, and the first human trials ended with three deaths. Crane's experiments were unknow to everyone else, however. The deaths were marked as heart attacks due to an unknown substance, and the case was closed. Fearing further investigation and a more watchful gaze, Crane left the school citing exhaustion.

It was after this time that Crane returned home for the first time since going to college. He found his mother and father leading the same pathetic lives as when he had left them. Crane had enough of watching them whither in front of him, and dosed them both with a lethal injection of his toxin, wathcing both go mad before dying. The case was treated as a drug overdose, and Crane was never even investigated.

The doctor then took up a job at Gotham's famed Arkham Asylum. Knowing that he'd have free reign there, Crane began experimenting on the inmates, all while he began to recruit followers in Gotham's criminal underground. To do so he donned a scarecrow costime, proclaiming he could free the city through fear. To fund his criminal organization, Crane used his chemical genius to cook high quality drugs, becoming one of the city's biggest suppliers.

But Crane found a new curiousity a few months into his endevour. Someone else was striking fear into the hearts of Gotham. He was a man some claimed to be half bat. But Jonathan knew better. The Batman was trying to clean up Gotham. He was doing it through fear. Crane respected that, but could not abide by it. He would take down the Batman and find out what his true fear was.

Why this character?

Scarecrow is my second favorite of Batman's rogues behind Joker, and I don't think I can do Joker justice. Plus, Crane can spread his fear to other heroes as well.

What can you bring to the RPG?

A villain that can theoretically go up against all our heroes.

Provide a short sample post as your desired character, in three paragraphs or more and featuring at least one line of dialogue:

The man struggled against the binds that held him to the examination table as the toxin ran through his veins. He cried out about rotting flesh or something to that nature. Crane wasn't paying much attention. He had been focused on the Batman ever since he had appeared in Gotham. The Bat was a primal symbol of fear, and Crane had to commend the man for choosing it. Yes, he was a man, of that Crane was sure. Men could be killed. But Crane was more interested in what the Batman feared.

"Doctor Crane?" one of the nurses popped her head into the examination room. "Are you done with this patient?"

"What? Oh yes," he nodded. "You may take him away. Nothing more I can do, I'm afraid."

Afraid. Crane laughed at the concept. He had long banished all fear from himself. He could not master the concept while suffering from it himself. He wondered if Batman knew that as well.

It was no matter. They would both find out what the Batman feared soon enough.

What's cooler than being cool?

ICE COLD

Character Name: Leonard Snart/Captain Cold

Alignment:

Character Speech Color and Font: Courier New Bold and Blue

Powers and Abilities: Snart is a metahuman with the ability to create and manipulate ice from his hands.

Character Origin/Backstory:

Lenny Snart was born into an abusive family. An alcoholic father who beat on him, his mother, and sister until he finally went to jail for vehicular manslaughter. Young Lenny was angry at the world and lashed out by becoming a criminal, first petty shoplifting and strong arm robbery. At the age of sixteen he graduated to armed robbery and B&E. He was in and out of prison over the years, eventually hooking up with a lover/partner named Michelle Rory. The young woman was obsessed with fire and had shady connections in Central City. One of her connections offered the couple money for taking part in an experiment.

Dr. Roscoe Dillon, working for Central City's shadowy crime boss known only as Grodd, injected a metahuman gene stimulant into both Snart and Rory, activated their dormant metahuman genes. Snart's abilities manifested in ice while Rory's abilities were fire-based. The two lovers went on a robbery spree through Central and Keystone Cities, stopped only by the Flash. They were both sent to Iron Heights Maximum Penitentiary where they met like-minded criminals with special skills. Together, Snart and the other criminals broke out of the prison and developed their own crew know as the Rogues.

Lenny Snart/Captain Cold
Michelle Rory/Heatwave
Evan McCullough/Mirror Master
Axle Walker/The Trixster
Mark Mardon/Weather Wizard
Digger Harkness/Captain Boomerang

Leading the Rogues, a rag-tag group of self-centered and egotistical criminals, it's up to Snart to keep them in line, keep them out of jail, and keep them from provoking Grodd's wrath.

Why this character? I like Cold, I like the Rogues, I like bad guy stuff. No-brainer.

What can you bring to the RPG? A villain!

Provide a short sample post as your desired character, in three paragraphs or more and featuring at least one line of dialogue:

Central City, Missouri

"You shouldn't even be here!" Lisa shouted in the apartment hallway. I looked around to make sure her outburst didn't alert anybody before holding my hands out.

"C'mon, Lis. You're making a goddamn scene."

"Damn right I am," she rasped quietly out. "In case you didn't know, you're a wanted felon! For a week now, I've had police coming to my door looking for you! Give me good reason not to call the cops..."

"Thanksgiving 2004," I said, staring straight into her eyes. Her eyes are that cobalt shade of blue. Just like mine, just like mom's. "Dad came at you with a beer bottle. I was faster--"

"Dammit, Len," she said with a sigh. "You're lucky I'm here alone. Hurry up and come in..."

Lisa led me into the apartment. The living room was a bit on the small side, but she had managed to fit in a couch, a few chairs, a TV and shelves lined with pictures.

"Nice place," I said, walking over to the shelves hanging up. "Where's the family?"

"My husband took my little girl to ballet."

On the shelf was pictures of a life I never saw first hand. Photos of Lisa holding up a diploma from Mizzou, pictures of her with her friends partying, photos of her and her husband together, on their wedding day. A picture of Lisa in a hospital bed, holding a baby. Photos of said baby, going from newborn to kindergarten.

"What's her name?" I asked, looking over my shoulder. "Your daughter?"

"Miriam. We call her Mimi for short."

"Miriam...," I said with a nod. "You named her after mom."

"Well, she was the only one who cared about us and she never got the life she wanted. At least this way I can make Mimi happy like mom never was."

I turned away from the shelf without comment. Lisa was now on the couch watching me like a hawk as I moved. "How about your husband? He's not--"

"Lenny," she said, raising a hand. "David's not like dad. Not at all. If he was, we wouldn't be together."

"Good, good. If there are any problems, you know who to call."

"Oh, you?" Lisa asked with a mocking laugh. "That's right. I nearly forgot how you were. Mister Protector. David tries to rough me up, I can call a supervillain to come save me."

"Watch it, Lis. Don't forget for what I did for you in the past."

"Yeah, you fought the old man off plenty of times... but there were plenty of times when you didn't. Times you were so scared of the old man, you'd hide up in your room while he beat me and mom bloody."

"Shut up. We don't talk about that stuff."

"You don't, but I do. I have. What happened with our father was horrible, but you know what, Len? I got over it. I worked through my feelings and I moved on. I didn't run around trying to be a bully in some stupid costume."

"A bully?!" I roared, holding up my ice-coated hands. "This? All of this was for you. I became this for you! To try and give you a better life!"

"Yeah, good job with that," she said with an eyeroll. "Been out of school eight years and I just now paid off my student loans. You sure helped out with my tuition from inside a jail cell."

"I tried, didn't I?"

"Yes, you did. In the worst way possible. Face it, Lenny, you became a crook because you wanted to. You wanted to get back at the world for what it did to you. That's why you robbed, and that's why you got those ice power things. You didn't do it for me, you did it for yourself, and you did it to spite dad."

Ever since my transformation, blood pumps through my veins at around 30 degrees Fahrenheit, near freezing levels. Even with that aside, I could feel my blood pumping hot.

"Goddammit," I yelled, slamming my ice-covered fists into the floor. The ice hands and knuckles shattered, coating the floor in shards of frozen water. I fell to my knees, staring at the ice scattered around me. "That son of a *****" I said, my voice starting to get heavy with emotion. "He hated us, Lis. He treated us like garbage. Do you know why?"

"Yes," she said, touching my shoulder. "The eyes."

"Every time he looked at us, he was seeing her." Tears began to run down my face, freezing on my cheeks. "He couldn't stand it. He couldn't stand her. He beat her, he beat us. Every chance he could."

"You don't have to be him, Lenny," Lisa said. "You can be better than that..."

"No," I said, standing up. "I had a chance, but I blew it. Got wrapped up in petty crimes and look where it got me. You got out. What the hell am I doing here? You got a life away from all of this. I'm just gonna ruin it."

"Look...," Lisa said, worrying the end of her shirt with her fingertips. "David and Mimi are going to be back soon... Take my car."

"I can't."

"Yes," she said shoving a pair of car keys into my hand. "It's insured. Take it. I'll report it stolen in the morning. It'll be enough time to get you out of town."

I held the keys in my hand, looking at Lisa. "I don't know what to say--"

"Don't say anything. Just go."

Lisa reached up and wrapped her arms around me. "Just go and never come back. You're right, I have moved on. I want you to, too."

"Thank you," I said. "Thank you so much."

With nothing left to say, I tucked the keys into my sweatshirt pocket and hurried out the apartment before my sister could change her mind.

Also, obviously all Cold backstory stuff is apt to change depending on what Carnage wants to do with Flash.

Scarecrow app is done.

As for the Captain Cold one, I like it. I was orignally going to have all the Rogues meet in prison before getting their powers, but your way works as well, Byrd.

Damn good to have a Scarecrow and a Penguin. Especially ones from players I can trust.

I'll have to get with you gentlemen about some things, but for now, my first IC post should be up later in the week. I'd work on it now, but it's my last week at my current job, and I want to focus all of my energies on getting that over with first.

I look forward to attempting to kill you.

No rush on getting in touch. I'll have my introductory post up tomorrow, and then I'm out of town until Tuesday anyway.

Also, real quick, to answer a question in regards to time frame: this is meant to be the very, very beginning of their careers. You don't necessarily have to write out your character's origins, but their first story arc should at least be their public debut.

DC Year One: Character Application:

Character Name: Oliver Queen

Alignment (Hero, Villain, Walking the Line): Walking The Line

Character Speech Color and Font (actually say what it is, like Blue Comic Sans): Dark Green Georgia, bolded when in costume

Powers and Abilities: No powers. Oliver's abilities stem from the skills he's learned over the five years he spent in hell. Those skills include archery, acrobatics, escapism, hand to hand combat, stealth and even aviation.

Character Origin/Backstory: "The name of the island they found me on was named 'Lian Yu'. It's mandarin for 'Purgatory'...

I've been stranded here for five years. I've dreamt of my rescue every cold, black night since then...

For five years, I've had only one thought. One goal: Survive...

Survive and one day return home. The island had many dangers... To live I had to make myself more than what I was, to forge myself into a weapon...

I am returning not the boy who was shipwrecked, but the man who will bring justice to those who have poisoned my city...

My name is Oliver Queen...

For five years, I had but one goal: Survive. Now, I must fulfill my father's dying wish, and bring down those who're poisoning my city... But to do that, I must become someone else...

I must become... something... else."

Oliver Queen, prior to the unfortunate shipwreck of the Queen's Gambit was one of the wealthiest womanizers, playboys and overall ***** in Starling City. But, for reasons unknown to him, the boat was sabotaged, thought to be destroyed in a storm, and and almost everyone aboard died. Everyone but Oliver himself, and his father Robert. Robert then took it upon himself to sacrifice his own life so that Ollie could fulfill his two dying wishes: to survive, and to right his wrongs.

After 5 years stranded on Lian Yu, Oliver was found. But he returned not the same man who left. Now, he was damaged, broken... Having lost a lot of his humanity... But also a weapon, and about to wage a one-man war to save Starling City from those who've corrupted it.

Having been reunited with his loved ones, Oliver knows he can't honor his father's wishes and be Oliver Queen at the same time. He must be something else.

Now, armed with a makeshift bow, arrows and the hood that he brought back with him from the island... That one man war is about to begin.

Why this character? Flash back to 2012, and I watch the season premiere of Arrow. I hated it. I abhored it, and after one episode, I immediately stopped watching, thinking it was horrendous, and that Oliver Queen, like all other heroes, should never take a life, and that was a line that they crossed that had me believing this was the worst adaptation I've ever seen.

Then... After hearing good things, after deciding to watch it again with a new perspective, that this was NOT the Green Arrow I came to know and love and that this is a version where the island was hell, and that Queen was forced to become a weapon to survive, and that as a result, he'd act as any other would in that same situation... I gave it another chance, and now? I'm absolutely hooked. It is by far one of my favorite shows now, and I can't stop watching.

So, here I am. I want the chance to play an Oliver Queen that is on a long, perilous journey to go from the weapon he was forced to become at the expense of his humanity, to the hero he's destined to be, and lastly... to regain that humanity he's since lost, so that in time, he will be a vengeful archer no longer... but the Green Arrow. Star City's savior.

What can you bring to the RPG? Same things I always do, hopefully. Better yet, approve me and I'll let YOU be the judge.

Provide a short sample post as your desired character, in three paragraphs or more and featuring at least one line of dialogue:

Ken Williams... Self-Made Millionaire. Self-Proclaimed "Philanthropist"... Thief.

Sitting anxiously in his chair in his penthouse suite, Ken Williams was constantly in fear since the "Hood" of Starling City had surfaced, targeting the wealthy.

Through a series of pyramid schemes, Williams has stolen money from those he's deceived, and has used his new wealth to ensure those that expose him are... silenced. Forever.

Since the vigilante's Robin Hood-themed (or so everyone thought) spree had began, Williams doubled his normal security staff. There were 8 bodyguards surrounding him in his room currently, and there's usually more. Between the fact that he was rich AND the fact that his fortune was acquired through rather... questionable circumstances... Ken just knew his time to face the Hood was coming.

In other words... Ken Williams is poisoning my city.

Little did he know... That time was tonight. That time was now.

The lights went out in the penthouse, and the sound of arrows slicing through the air and into the chests of half of Williams' guards. As they fell to the ground injured, or worse, Williams immediately jumped from his chair and hid in the corner.

"GET HIM!" he shouted in cowardice, sending his men to fend the archer off. It was then that Williams laid eyes upon the Hood, watching as he used his bow as a weapon to face his bodyguards hand to hand, expertly dodging their attacks, and following up with flurries of kicks, flips, blocks and strikes from the rather makeshift-looking bow.

Williams ducked down once more, but when he peeked out... He saw that all of his guards lied on the ground, dead or unconscious. And as he looked farther up, he saw a green arrowhead pointed between his eyes. And behind that arrowhead, the eyes of vengeance. The Hood, himself.

"Ken Williams..."

"You have failed. This. City..."
