Th Mad I get off work, and my car is missing....it's been towed!

I parked in a different spot before getting on the train this morning, and apparently my front bumper was blocking some old woman's driveway, which looks more like a gravel/grass combo than anything. I get off work, my car is gone, and some guy sitting on his porch is like, "yeah, that lady called earlier and had the cops come by and tow it, man. I told her you were barely in her spot, but she wasn't having it." Dude gave me the name of the towing company, now I have to pay a release fee(which I can't do until tomorrow) and I get a ticket as well for blocking her gravel pit or whatever the **** it is. I better receive some good news in the next 24 hours, or I'm murdering people.

Crazy old women are ruining everyone's day today, it seems. Mine was ****ed up by an old lady, too, but at least I didn't have to pay a fee

If you're lucky your CD's and whatever else you had in there might still be in there. Those towing people are some real douches most of the time.

*scratches belly button* "Nah, there wasn't nothing in the car, man. Sign here." *cough*

Old people can be so cute when they are your grandparents, but when they are total strangers they can just die already.

The good thing about old people is that you don't have to kill them. Just wait and watch.

Isn't that right, C Lee?

Do you guys deal direct with the towing companies in the States?

Down this way you deal with the authority rather than the agent... so you'd be talking with the council, say, or the group who have the authority to tow the car away and the poor tow truck drivers don't get harassed, pissed off and go home and beat their wives...

I've had my car towed twice and each time it was $150 and each day you don't/can't pick it up they charge a $10 "storage" fee.

It has to be a police order to tow cars on the street, so she basically called the cops, they called their own towing people, and it was towed. 20 bucks for the release form from the station, and another 100.00 for the towing fee.

Ah. Down here the council areas largely deal with that stuff... maybe some smaller privately owned car parks might have clearance to tow their own.

They just call the police before they impound 'em to check whether they're stolen... or that's the theory. Then contact the police afterwards to give full details of the impounded vehicle incident (in case someone like yourself thinks his car's gone and some jerk has jacked it).

You get cantankerous old crones calling in abandoned vehicles all the time, since its the first step towards getting the thing towed. And I'm talking a few hours in some cases...

Old people with too much time on their hands...

That's not bad at all, actually. Pretty much the going rate, and anything under $40 is cheap for storage.

Be glad you didn't have it towed by the Chicago Police, or you'd be looking at a $1,000 plus towing charge and $40.00 a day in storage.

Lesson learned, I suppose.

It's always a good idea to know somebody that has one of those trucks though if you ever need a car towed, because they will come up with all kinds of random fees if they're a private place.

How I do I put this...

The Chicago Police Department apparently hires mob run towing companies. The towing companies know that a lot of people have insurance towing coverage, and they know that insurance companies, by law, have to pay for any towing costs as the law there currently stands. So they jack up the price and then some. $1,000 is the low end for some of them. I've seen a $3,000 tow and $700 storage for two days, on a vehicle worth about $500.
