Girl Cashiers Are Starting To Annoy Me!
For the past year or so I've encountered this epidemic that needs to be addressed: girl cashiers. No, not women cashiers. Girl cashiers. Maybe it's just me, but has anyone noticed that whenever the cashier is a girl they always comment on whatever it is that you're buying? Seriously, what the [censored]? Can I purchase my item(s) without there being a darn critic?

They're probably coached to be flirtatious and make small talk to try and bring back customers, and when you're a cashier what's there to talk about but the stuff your customers buying? I agree it's annoying but I think it's probably just part of their job.

It is true. That's all we have to talk about and they tell you to be friendly so naturally, the only thing any cashier has to talk about is the purchases the costumer is making.

It's only happened to me once. They made a comment about what I was buying and I responded, "just tell me what the price is with tax. thanks"

I try to talk to the customers. My bosses are constantly telling me that I need to be friendlier and interact and try to converse more with my customers. I don't like it, because I feel like I come across as annoying. Sometimes I mention something about what they're buying, but I feel like I'm being intrusive. This thread just proves my point!

we have to be sociable and friendly, that's part of our job description. the easiest way to garner a conversation or small talk is to comment on things around you. the easiest thing would be of course, what you're buying, what you're wearing, the weather.
some people are just friendly and like to talk, so help our days go by a little faster and humor us while we serve you ok? it's not that hard |

I understand, ComicChick. However, a simple, "hi. how's it going" should be the limit. Once you're explaining your preferred brand of gum you're just wasting people's time.

If they're doing it while scanning I don't see why it's a problem. I've worked the cash too and trust me, they don't wanna talk to your boring arse either. They have to.

As someone who trains cashiers and works customer service at a retail store, you have to understand, a lot of this stuff comes from the top. We're asked to be friendly and smile. For some girls, friendly means commenting on how cute a top looks. It makes the customer feel better about their purchase. As a guy, if a cute cashier told you, "Hey this shirt looks cool!" You'd probably leave the store thinking just that.

This thread is one of the reasons why I made the comments I did about the general shopping population.
It is part of our job to be friendly and talkative to the customers. The company wants you to "build relationships" with the guests to bring them back, because we see them as people, not as $$$. So we make small talk. Yet, the customers are apparently too high and mighty for small talk, so they throw it back in your face and treat you like **** in the process, as a couple of posters have shown in this very thread. Trust me, I don't give a crap about your loser ass anymore than you give a crap about mine. But don't be a dick to me because I am doing my job. Really.

We said almost the same thing! As if the cashier is talking to you because you're so exciting or something. Is making small-talk to be polite so hard? Just because they're providing you with a service, doesn't mean that you can ignore the rules of social etiquette.

Though we all will confess as men nothing is cuter than an attractive cashier chick who gets annoyed when her register screws up or something won't scan.
We just laugh and crack a joke, meanwhile she's struggling like a mother****er.
