We haven't had a James Bond origin. We have only had snippets of his early days. Casino Royal was post 00 status. You think he just walked straight into that after college?

If you are going to use Spiderman as an example, then the most recent outing with Holland is the perfect example - not an origins, but an early adventure.

So yeah, i think a proper bond origins movie would work just fine, creating a universe to be exploited - if you know your source material.

Do we really need post-college, early military/intelligence agency James Bond? Sorry, that's not James Bond. Casino Royale through Skyfall was for all intents and purposes the origin of Daniel Craig's James Bond.

We don't need bloody James Bond Jr. the movie

You KNOW somebody's probably thought of that.

We got all the pertinent origin and backstory details in all of Craig's movies. So what else do we really need? He came from a well-to-do, upper-class British family. His parents died at a young age. Was taken in by another well-to-do family, and his adopted brother resented him and became a crimelord as a result. Ultimately joined British intelligence and became a 00 agent.

For all intents and purposes Casino Royale was his origin story. It's the events in that film/novel that made him the classic character we know. The rest is unnecessary noise.

And quite frankly, what you're describing sounds more like American Assassin than James Bond.

I agree with Roose and Vile. We have had Craig's Bond's origin spread across 4 films. I don't really care about a film that's about Bond before he became a 00.

We need Kindergarten Bond!! Just having him in college isn't enough. That's not going back far enough. We need to see him from the really early years of being orphaned and then attending school.

In fact, we should just go all out and have baby Bond coming out of the womb!

Am I the only one who's not excited at all about another Bond movie after the incredibly dull SPECTRE?

This time they need to try to be less like the Bond of the past and stick to the strengths of Craig's Bond and deepen it. Skyfall was the ideal balance between the grittiness of Craig and the more classic nature of things, but that fit more into the precedent set by Craig's Bond rather than the other way around like Spectre tried to do. Basically, no need to put the more Roger Moore stuff in there. Craig's Bond sticks out because he has this ideal balance between grit and charm. Keep doing that. It's why he's arguably the best Bond. They were more cognizant of trying to be more like Bond of the past and that got in the way.

Bond evolved into something resembling the Connery/Moore version in SPECTRE. But if Madeleine is killed or captured? The gloves are off, Casino Royale pre-title sequence style.

What we need is a casino royal calibre Bond film. Just excellent quality and credible visceral grit with legit glamour and escapism.

I wouldn't go as far as to call it "a good movie". It's cheesy as all hell, but like I said, I love it. The main character's name was "Johnny Utah" for ****'s sake.

Wait...she directed Near Dark?! No ****?! Learn something new every day I guess. That's a strange movie to say the least. And yeah, didn't Bigelow even come out and say she was really only interested in telling "real life stories" right now? Why a director would wanna stifle their creativity into something SO specific I don't know, but if that's what she wants. I certainly don't want to see anyone directing something they have zero interest in. That's a disaster from the get go.

Yeah, I'd say Skyfall was my favorite, but that could be because I felt like everyone was firing on all cylinders. Not just Craig, but Bardem, Dench, and all the other supporting really.
