Did John Byrne really have a hand in creating Scott Lang Ant-Man? I know he's listed on Wikipedia, but that means nothing since people can be mistaken.

David Michellinie always worked with inker Bob Layton, who was also his co-plotter on most titles, including most famously, The Invincible Iron Man, and more specifically, Marvel Premiere #47. It was both of them who created Jim Rhodes, Bethany Cabe and many of the other big characters, and they frequently used Scott Lang in those pages too. Although there were various pencilers/ artists, it was inker Bob Layton who actually gave Iron Man his distinct metallic look and also contributed largely to key plot elements.

I have a strong feeling that Scott Lang is their creation and not actually the creation of Michellinie and Byrne. I'm not sure it's the same as other titles such as Spider-Man, where it's the creation of Stan Lee (writer) and Steve Ditko (artist). I think for Lang Ant-Man it's the work of Michellinie (writer) and Layton (inker/ co-plotter).

And those two have never been mentioned in any of the Iron Man movies even though they are so synonymous with the title, so I don't know why they would be mentioned for Ant-Man.

wouldn't bother me. Layton's one of my favorite creators (i wrote him about Lang's death for comment). but the art in the marvel premiere is undeniably Byrne's. i'd have to check to see who drew his earlier appearance in the Avengers title. either way, i think Michelinie's the one who gets the most credit.

I'd say January for official stuff. And we'll start hearing about Marvel auditioning actors in late November.

John Byrne was my favorite writer/artist way back when I started reading comics early 80's.

in an interview (over at CBR), Rob Corddry (Hell Baby, Hot Tub Time Machine, the Daily Show) showed interest in being the villain of the Ant-Man movie.

The way this movie is placed is a huge bet from Marvel. Beginning of Phase III and also following Avengers: Age Of Ext...Ultron.
He's also quite lesser known, I feel like it's gonna be in the same level as Iron Man, kickstarting something while also being a fresh take on a different superhero.

Sounds like he was probably joking. I wouldn't mind seeing him as a henchman like
Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
Jasper Sitwell & Senator Stern
in Captain America: Winter Soldier.

I'm not a fan of Marvel making the main villains in there movies comedic as it undermines how threatening they are for me.

Edgar seems pretty devoted to making ant-man more of a standalone film within the MCU but I'm sure there will be some stuff.

Edgar likes his easter eggs and shared cornetto movie universe injokes so I hope that he might do some of that with ant-man in the MCU.

Having seen the fight scenes in World's End, the Ant-Man test footage and Edgar's comment about Ant-Man being an ass kicker I think he could end up being one of the top hand to hand fighters in the MCU.

I think Brad Allen is also returning with Edgar for Ant-Man.

Marvel Studios‘ Ant-Man feature had been set for November 6, 2015, but now Disney will release the pic on July 31, 2015.

Can't lie, I'm even more excited now that I don't have to wait so long. Although I don't understand why Disney is doing all of these movies in the summer. Not complaining, and Star Wars might be a winter release so it won't be their full arsenal in the summer. So 2 months after AoU and 3 weeks after Superman/Batman... Wonder how that 3 week thing will work out.

What is the take away from these news? Marvel thinks it screams summer blockbuster?

No idea but the critics loved The World's End, so Disney/Marvel might have even more faith in Wright now. And AoU will be fresher on peoples' minds than it would've been in November, so that might work out for the best. I'm just weary of it opening 3 weeks after Superman/Batman.

I think this move is a stupid idea on Marvel and Disney's part. They'll already own summer 2015 with Avengers: Age of Ultron and POTC 5... and Ant-Man is an untested property.

And they're underestimating how big this potential Superman vs. Batman movie can be. They would be better off moving Ant-Man to November 13 or that May 2016 spot.

Maybe they think it will be more profitable in the summer... or it could even be Marvel's excuse for why Ant-Man isn't a high earner in the BO. "Well the movie opened 3 weeks after Superman/Batman, what did you expect?" I agree, though, seems like it might be summer overkill on Disney's part.

I don't think it's a stupid move at all. Summer is a better time to launch an untested superhero movie rather than in November when kids are back in school. And three weeks after Batman vs. Superman is plenty of space in between. I think you're overestimating how big it will be.
