I agree about being ready for some silly fun, though. I get my gritty drama elsewhere in my TV viewing diet. These shows are pure cheesy escapism to me, so I have zero objections to a goofy musical hour, as long as it's fun to watch (AND listen to, lol). Comics aren't all-serious all-the-time, either. Sometimes I feel like people forget that.
That's a fair comment, but with filters and technology that could make even the Spice Girls sound good being well established I doubt it would be a problem.

Anyway, roll on Duet !

In Supergirl's first season, we saw Flash crossed over to her world. He returned with Cisco in the Mega Crossover. Now we see Supergirl, Martian Manhunter, and Mon-El crossing over to his as it's a return favor. I think Mon-El and Kid Flash are going to step up in their mentors' absences.

Yeah, everyone who's ragging on this, calm down and just enjoy the fun of it. This is one of the reasons I love Flash. It embraces the pure escapism of the 70's era comics, where they would fluctuate between some darker material, then do some crazy sic-fi fantasy stuff the next issue. It's just fun. And honestly, I prefer the occasional silly episode like this to some of the forced CW-drama the show puts into it's storylines.

When did filler episodes become a bad thing? The Adventures of Superman, Star Trek, Lost in Space, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Batman, The Incredible Hulk, and Wonder Woman episodes were all filler episodes
and they were all pretty damn enjoyable. Why is it that modern shows all have to have some sort of theme that runs throughout the entire season and can't deviate from that once in a while?

Except people have been wanting them to do this as far as the Flash/Supergirl crossover on Supergirl last season. People were hoping we could get a song or two out of Grant and Melissa because they had both been on Glee.
So rather than too early, it's sort of too late.

Spoiler for the episode:

But it isn’t all doom and gloom ahead for Team Flash. In two weeks, “The Flash” and “Supergirl” will have a musical mini-crossover that finds the titular heroes “whammied” by the Music Meister (Darren Criss) and enter a dream-like state. Patton teased how Iris will factor into the event.

“You’ll see two versions of Iris in the episode,” she said. “The Iris that we know and love, and a person they [Barry and Kara (Melissa Benoist)] think is Iris but is actually a completely different character named Millie. She’s the sassy daughter of two gangsters — played Victor Garber and Jessie Martin — and she’s madly in love with Mon-El’s character (‘Supergirl’s’ Chris Wood), whose name is Tommy. They’re fighting for their love, because both of their families do not want them to be together.”

I'm cautiously optimistic for this episode after the preview. If the music is just a few songs through which I can fast-forward instead of a "singing everything" approach, I can deal with that.

I kind of wish that they had went the old school campy superhero route for the musical episode. Put everyone in their classic costumes wouldve been fun.

Lots of BTS interviews for this ep:

Personally I have no problem with filler episodes because many times the over reaching story of the season can get convoluted and something simpler can be more entertaining. I am just not a fan of gimmick episodes, and tons of singing definitely is a gimmick. I also am on the side(and I know most disagree) is all these hero shows would be better if they lived in their own little world and didn't cross over with each other. I find the crossover episodes to be a crutch for the show runners and could live without those as well

Love seeing their reactions to Martian Manhunter's form.

This Darren Criss reminds me of TNA wrestling's EC3.

Really liking this so far. Benoist has a beautiful singing voice and I can't wait to hear them duet. The first number was pretty good. And now at the commercial break we see one of the reasons why Meister put them under.

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
though I have to wonder, if he already has super speed and the ability to mesmerize people, and other powers as well, why would he need to steel their powers?

So this episode is an outlet for Barry and Kara to solve their relationship issues.

Kind of makes it easy.
