went ahead and picked up the Remaster.

is it just me, but the jaggies in the story cutscenes are quite noticeable, especially against the beautiful watercolor/painterly art style which I love.

have you played it before on the PS3?

it's a tactical style RPG.

you have a certain number of "turns" you can use to move your troops around the battlefield. As you move a character around, he/she has an "action points" bar that determines how far or how much stuff he can do. So you have to manage that bar as you position your troops for offense or defense.

if you come across a barrier, you can crouch behind by pressing X for cover. for gunplay, you bring up the crosshairs to aim then press X to fire. it will tell you how many hits it takes to kill and enemy and how many hits you will fire in that turn. so, again, you have to plan accordingly.

after you use up all of your turns, then it switches to the enemy as it uses it's turns to position is troops, etc.

this keeps going back and forth until you win or until you meet certain criteria for losing ( letting key characters die, after 20 rounds, etc. ).

that's the basics.

outside of the battles, the story is told via cutscenes told through chapters in a story book ( which is how the whole narrative is framed ).

i've always wanted to try it out but i skipped it on Ps3. So it's awesome that it's getting remastered for the Ps4. is there a fair amount of cutscenes? And they're anime style right?

ah, I see. I hope you enjoy it.

yes, all the cutscenes ( really the whole game ) are in anime style in a "watercolor" artstyle.

and I'm not sure if cutscenes is the right word, because you watch the scene and the dialogue boxes of the characters. so maybe story scene is a better word.

and, I'd say the story scenes outnumber the battle scenes. at least that's how it is early in the game - don't know about later in the game.

last night when I started, I played through about 4 or 5 story scenes and only had 1 battle scene.

I'm usually not a fan of tactical RPGs. but the art style is what attracted me to VC.

I've also got my eye out for Grand Kingdom coming out on PS4 in June.

Valkyria: Azure Revolution made more RPG-like as a result of demo feedback

Published 14 hours ago. 113 comments.

Second demo due out this summer.

The latest issue of Weekly Famitsu features an interview with Valkyria: Azure Revolution director Takeshi Ozawa, who discusses the changes being made to the game as a result of the Battle Demo Ver. 1.0 included with Valkyria Chronicles Remastered in Japan.

Find the interview tidbits below.
  • We have received three times the amount of feedback from the Battle Demo Ver. 1.0 demo that we thought it would receive.
  • There were many harsh opinions.
  • The battle system has changed greatly from the demo. Details will be shared on the official website, but it is more RPG-like now.
  • Since the demo battle had action elements that were too intense for an RPG, you couldn’t think through things as you fought, so we’re introducing a new action gauge for both enemies and allies.
  • It’s been changed so that players can optionally stop time when using weapons and magic.
  • Since it bears the Valkyria name, I felt the demand for tactical battles. Specifically since you can put together your unit and fight, so in order to skillfully use your allies, we’re making it possible to customize their thinking. It’s been fixed so that you can give them direct instruction.
  • The party has been upgraded from a maximum of three participants to four participants.
  • Field encounters have also been removed.
  • The next demo is due out this summer.
Valkyria: Azure Revolution is due out for PlayStation 4 in Japan this winter.
Thanks, Hachima Kikou.

Ophelia's tights removed as a result of fan feedback.

Sega has updated the Valkyria: Azure Revolution official website with details on a new character—the Emperor of the Rus Empire—as well as a list of what changes are being made to the game as a result of feedback from the Battle Demo Ver 1.0 included with Valkyria Chronicles Remastered in Japan.

First, here’s Emperor Claudius (pictured) and an additional description for the Valkyria Brunhild via this week’s issue of Weekly Famitsu:
Claudius Powlovich Kiev
The Emperor of the Rus Empire, one of the five major empires of Europa. Because he was born in troubled times, he bore the ambition of becoming a leader, and became a hero that turned the once small Rus Kingdom into a great empire in a single lifetime.
Followed by the immortal Valkyria feared as the “God of Death,” he invaded other countries against the backdrop of his military power, rapidly and forcibly expanding his influence. With his tactical genius and political ability, he rules under military law.
Brunhild
The immortal Valkyria feared as the “God of Death.” She is in a contract with Emperor Claudius to protect the Rus Empire. With a body unscathed by swords and bullets, she stands before those that oppose her and reaps the life from them with her “Song of Death.”
