That female Venom story sounds really interesting. Would like to see a "What If" run of that.

All of that adds up to INO. The new film has taken the opposite approach...and thank goodness.

And this version does? it's about inoas the sm3 version.

Symbiote isn't in love with peter in this movie cause he isn't in the movie or universe

No replication of spider powers cause spider man isn't in the movie.

Tentacles come out of his clothes.

Brock is a guy fighting a currupt buissness in this movie and cares who the symbiote hurts. Has no motivation to call himself Venom like the comic. Has no failed job. Vengenace doesn't fuel his rage.

The only thing this movie seems to have got right was the look and the "we". How are you ok with a botched adaption of this movie but sm3 venom is in name only cause he didn't follow the comic to a T?
This venom deviates farther from what makes Venom Venom. Spiderman 3 TRIED to get the lore right by adding some comic accuracy and some not. It was still Venom. It was rushed and a bad take on the character but it wasn't deadpool level bad.

The film isn't taking an OPPOSITE appraoch cause there si no spiderman. The symbiote is an alien who just latches on to Brock and thats it. Also Brock was a reporter for the Bugle or photographer and was disgraced like in the comic. Did we watch the same movie.Yes the movie was crap but come on.

Spider-Man 3 was a poor portrayal of the character and this movie also looks to be a mediocre interpretation.

They both seem like incomplete takes. Like if you took what this movie looks to be giving us and what Spidey 3 did, you have the complete satisfying Eddie Brock/Venom story. With some tweaks and adjustments, of course.

I just read Venom: Dark Origin and it is absolutely awesome. I would kill to see THAT as a movie.

This new version can't be perfect because of the Sony-MS limitations, but what it can get correct, it seemingly has. Eddie's not a smarmy fashion plate, but a hoodie-wearing guy who lives in a modest apartment. At least one of the press releases mentioned a scandal of some sort, so it's safe to assume that his life has been bumpy.

Eddie is an intimidating presence, aggressive, and also seems a little unbalanced. His relationship with the symbiote, which has its own distinct personality, also seems difficult.

These are the elements that made Venom work after breaking away from Spider-man in the comics. It's easy to see from the trailer that the Venom on screen matches the one in print. That wasn't so with SM3.

I'm fairly confident that the essence of the character is there. It's the villains and the narrative that are the big unknowns at this point.

I have to agree about the tendril shooting out of the clothes. Hope the final product adds a bit more cgi resembling sort of a undefined wave going over his body in some places to make it seem a bit more uncontrolled yet make Venom's presence known to an extent.

The personality's on point though. While doesn't really look like Eddie from the comics, the similarity personality wise seems to be there.

I think if a character needs another to lean on, then it's hard to establish a movie around said character or really make them as well rounded (an exception of course if a straight adaptation of a self-contained story with beginning and end of course but most comic films don't follow this being a re-invention and extrapolation instead of merely just an adaptation). I think of getting to the essence of most comic's character is a bit like trying to crack a combination lock as far the screenwriting aspect goes. Some are easier to do this with than others for sure.

I can't fathom what the film will be like without Spider-Man. And I see people saying "the movie can still be good!" Sure, it can be good, but it won't ever be true to the source material and totally changes the character of Venom altogether.

And knowing Sony's track record, this probably won't be a good film, especially with Avi Arad's involvement.

I don't think this will be on the level of bad of Josh Trank's FANT4STIC, but I can't see this film being anything more than just mediocre at best.

I don't think so. I know that Sony was talking about making this R-Rated, but I feel like it'll just go the PG-13 route.

Sony doesn't make anything off merchandise of the films. Per the deal they made with Marvel starting with TASM2. They however make 100% of the BO revenue (they used to have to give a % to Marvel).

When do you think we will start hearing about the villain/s of this film? Is Venom just fighting Life Foundation goons or will we see other symbiotes?

It wouldn't surprise me if business dude Riz Ahmed is Carnage. Seems likely of SONY to pull something like that.

Nah, he's the very famous character that showed up in many many issues named Carlton Drake. He'll probably still just be 90s bad business dude villain.

That's what I like about what I've seen of this movie so far, it looks like a movie that would have been made in the 90s. Like one of those comic book movies where they get the character right but they change the origin a lot and don't want to totally commit.

Haha. I'd take Woody as Carnage over Riz. No offense, Riz.

It just feels so strange that this Venom film and spin-off series is just the nuclear waste of the TASM franchise. That series gets cancelled, but Sony (sort of) continues with their plans anyway. -_-
