You need to watch the original Japanese version of Z [or Kai] to understand Freeza. Freeza is so drastically different in original Japanese version than in the terrible Funimation dub. They just completely ruined Freeza for the English dub

Cell is an awesome villain in Japanese, his voice and personality are a bit different than English Cell..but still cool.

It's a toss up for me between Freeza and Cell.....I personally like Cell a little more because he sorta came from no where, not to mention he was in a constant back in forth with the Z Senshi building himself up trying to get ahead of that.

Cell's first form was nice and creepy. I think Garlic Jr. is the top DBZ villain, since he's the only one to have gained immortality. Plus the Black Water Mist was a potent weapon that could've really put Gohan through the emotional ringer if he'd been forced to kill his friends/family affected by the Mist.

He couldn't be beaten by Goku, Gohan or any other Z Fighters, so of course he isn't.

In terms of the anime he's canon.

I don't know, it just seems unnecessary to me. The ones we have are good enough....well, a few of them are.
But if they can toss out the need to put in rock music, like Disturbed, I might accept it.

None of the movies have been necessary.

Akira Toriyama is working on this one and according to him it will be canon too for whatever that's worth.

The only ones I would consider to be made canon are the first Cooler and Broly films.

Akira Toriyama was involved with that mini episode that retconned Bardock as the origin of the Super Saiyan legend, and that has been made canon, but it doesn't mean it's good. I am interested to see where they go with this, hopefully it'll bring something new to series.

I know Dead Zone is suppose to be cannon but I always hated how everyone knows and is worried about Goku's son in that movie yet act shocked as hell when they found out Goku has a son right before Raditz arrived.

Officially none of them are canon according to Toriyama. We can try putting them in the timeline but there will always be inconsistencies.

The only movie/t.v special that are canon are Bardock: Father of Goku, History of Trunks, Episode of Bardock, & Dragon Ball: Yo! Son Goku and His Friends Return!!

oddly enough though I did always like the character trunks
I would have been fine with it ending after Frieza Saga. It woulda been a fitting end for the whole Goku story like ya said, but I didn't mind Cell Games specially with Gohan going crazy-awesome, but I definitely thought it should have ended after that.

The Majin Buu thing was overkill for the series. Don't get me wrong, I liked it and Buu become one of my favorite villains, but it was still overkill and could have ended NUMEROUS times.

I know they reference and have flashbacks to Dead Zone during the Garlic Jr. Saga, I've heard long ago that that saga wasn't in Japan but I never cared enough about it to investigate it.

I liked buu upon my initial viewing but as I've rewatched the whole dbz series numerous times, I actually like it less and less.. The best part of that was Vegeta giving in to his hate and going ape-***** lol

Garlic Jr saga is filler. It was played in Japan and everywhere else where DBZ was broadcasted it's just not an arc from the manga.

Gotcha, I remember as a kid being so desperate for new DBZ episodes that when Toonami debuted Rising Sun on Saturday mornings I was going ape **** just waiting for Garlic Jr. That's how desperate I was for new DBZ!

Yeah as a kid when I watched DBZ go through its first run on Cartoon Network I had no idea about what was canon or what wasn't. I enjoyed the heck out of the Garlic jr saga personally regardless of it being filler.

A friend recently put it to me that Akira Toriyama is like some vampiric creature that has lived far to long and is being kept alive by the collective will power of the Anime/Manga corporations. I found this idea extremely hilarious.

Also I liked having Pantera and disturbed and drowning pool in DBZ movies.

Broly's first ever transformation to the sound of Pantera's 10s is the greatest moment thing ever.

I admit that I liked all the metal in the american dubbed Movies at well. I love recreating anime fights in Raging Blast 2 and playing all the Movie songs in the background.

I often like to play as Broly against a 5 man team, consisting of Piccolo, Trunks, Vegeta, Gohan and Goku, with Haji - Day after day playing. Or playing as Cooler with Disturb's - The game in the background. Fun times.
