It was looking good. As I was typing just saw that Messi got the away goal equaliser. Going to be difficult now.

Chelsea were very unlucky tonight they defended resolutely & broke quickly, it took an unfortunate mistake for Barcelona to score, although great vision & composure from Iniesta to pick Messi out & basically hand him a goal on a plate.

Barcelona had so much off the possession & they just didn't do anything with it, they must have had at least 70-30 possession, if not more, in their favour & I actually think they managed less shots than Chelsea.. which is a disgrace when you think about it that a side with so little possession can manage more shots, yet you still have people that will call that an attacking performance from Barcelona & criticise Chelsea & call their performance a defensive one.

What else would you call it? Barca was trying to break a bunker of 11 men behind the ball.

When 1 team has that much possession for extended periods of time, it's only natural that the team that doesn't have the ball retreats further & further into their own territory especially if they aren't operating a high pressing system.

Barcelona could & should have risked having a few more attempts from outside the box or perhaps unlikely positions, not only would they have potentially scored, but Chelsea getting the ball even 10% more would have naturally made them come out further, obviously still compact, but just not as deep which would have given Barca a better chance of scoring when they regained possession if they moved quick enough.. obviously though having a shot would risk giving the ball away if it didn't go in, heaven forbid that.

Chelsea intentionally setup to have 11 behind the ball. They didn't even have a #9 on the pitch.

Barca do not need to "risk" anything. Your basically complaining that one team didn't want to give the other team the ball. That is crazy. Especially as Barca got what they wanted out of the match, even as they were the ones actually risking something. Which is why Chelsea kept breaking on them. They actually had a backline approaching midfield on occasion. Chelsea used lower league cup tie tactics, to the extreme.

GGWP Chelsea... Defending with these pro defenders...Compared to these, David Luiz is a genius.

You're mistaken, I'm pointing out that if a side has 73% possession over 90 minutes, yet only manages 7 shots on goal & next to no clear cut chances created regardless of how deep or defensive you want to argue the opposing team was, then you aren't playing with any real attacking/goalscoring intent. Your focus is on ball retention over everything else.

It's not like we can debate that Barcelona didn't move the ball into areas in which they could have had a shot from the edge of the box or tried a risky pass or whipped low cross to try to put someone in far more often than they did.

Chelsea are going to have to play with some attacking intent at the Nou Camp now regardless of what happened here. That goal by Messi has made things a lot harder now but I think they would have needed to score anyway so maybe it will help them play in a way that is actually more likely to result in them going through.

Really hope Utd can get a result today. We'll likely have at least 4 teams through to the last 8 then (with Chelsea still in with a chance too) and this will set our UEFA coefficient up for years.

Referee is killing the games flow with some of these soft ass fouls.

He did the same thing to I think it was Jones & Smalling if I recall last season when they ruled themselves out of a tie leaving him short at CB.

It's not about the result mate, I've been consistent with this from the LvG days, this negative, dull, boring football is not acceptable, I don't care about the results at this point, we are getting steadily worse to watch.

I didn’t mean that. I meant the result could have actually been worse because Utd were ****e!
