Video capture, profile and save data transferring, and more.

Switch system software update version 4.0.0 is now available, Nintendo announced.
The update adds various new features, including the ability to transfer user profiles and save data between systems, video capture for select titles, and new user icons.
Here is the full list of changes:
Added the following system functionality
  • Capture video on select games
    • To capture video, hold down the Capture Button during gameplay
    • Up to maximum of the previous 30 seconds will be saved in the Album. You can trim the beginning and end of each clip, and post to Facebook and Twitter.
    • As of October 18th, 2017, this feature is compatible with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, ARMS, and Splatoon 2
  • Select from 12 new Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild icons for your user
    • To edit your user icon, head to your My Page on the top left of the Home Menu > Profile
  • Transfer user and save data to another system
  • Pre-purchase option on Nintendo eShop
    • A pre-purchase option will be available for certain games. This option allows pre-load of the game to your system for quicker play when the game is released.
    • This feature will be supported by future game releases
  • News channel updates
    • The news feed has been updated with a new look.
    • Unfollowing a channel will remove that channel’s content from the news feed and following the channel again will make it reappear.
  • Match software version with a group of local users
    • To create a group, head to the software’s Options > Software Update > Match Version with Local Users
    • Everyone’s software will be updated to match the most recent version in the group
    • All users must be on system menu version 4.0.0 or later to view and join a group
General system stability improvements to enhance the user’s experience, including:
  • Changed the specification which hid wireless networks using TKIP security from the network search results. Wireless networks using TKIP security will now display in search results as a grayed-out selection instead of not being displayed
    • The Nintendo Switch console supports WEP, WPA-PSK(AES), and WPA2-PSK(AES). If your router is using a different security type (e.g. WPA-PSK(TKIP)), you will need to change this security type within your router’s settings.
Watch a video of the video capture feature in action below.

Following the reveal of Shin Megami Tensei V for Nintendo Switch, Atlus shared some additional tidbits in this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine. [Thanks, Ryokutya2089.]

Kazuyuki Yamai, who previously worked as the director of Shin Megami Tensei IV, will lead the development team for Shin Megami Tensei V. The concept behind Shin Megami Tensei V is to look back and reflect on the characteristics of the times.

Atlus decided on going with the Nintendo Switch so that fans can enjoy the game’s story in HD at home on their TVs, while playing portable or tabletop mode to put in the grind to level up and fuse demons at the comfort of your own bed.

We’ll have more information on Shin Megami Tensei V from Famitsu soon.

That's really cool, if way too expensive.

Man, Capcom has to be feeling the burn, though. Marvel vs Capcom got beat by Mario x Rabbits. That has to sting. Plus get other third party's attention.

Anyway, ordered Odyssey from Amazon. There is quickly becoming almost too many games for the Switch. Can't wait till the 2018 Direct.

Get the controller and Odyssey.

Or look for a cheap wired controller, and get a used copy of Splatoon 2. Either way, get Mario and a controller.

So is there any reason other than I guess uniformity with other platforms that developers seem to want to map the 'B' button as the main attack button rather than 'A'?

In a recent Famitsu interview, Yoshiaki Koizumi, producer of the Switch hardware and Super Mario Odyssey answered questions on the latest Mario adventure, as well as changes to Nintendo that led up to the release of the title. Koizumi also had this to say about the future lineup of Nintendo titles:

Famitsu: Nintendo Switch users may be worried about next year’s lineup, with both staple titles such as Mario and Zelda, as well as new hit titles such as Splatoon having already come out for the system.

Yoshiaki Koizumi, producer of Super Mario Odyssey: Nintendo still have many IPs which have not come out for the system, and also more than just existing IPs in store as well. We are planning and preparing games that people probably haven’t even thought about, which will be released steadily over the next two years. We hope to make games which resonate with players using this process, so please patiently look forward to it.

Super Mario Odyssey is currently available worldwide for Nintendo Switch.

Well there's still Pokémon and Smash. Metroid, Yoshi, and Kirby would probably not be system sellers.

If they nail Pokémon it will be a huge win for Nintendo. I know people who haven’t gamed with Nintendo in decades who would buy one for a full fledged console Pokémon game.

Also very interested in seeing their new IPs.
