The Pokémon Company and Bandai Namco announced today on Pokkén Tournament’s official Twitter account that a new playable Pokémon will be revealed on January 15.

Similar to the previous hint last month the teaser shares a hint saying that the newcomer will be a Pokémon with the letter “ラ” (“ra” or works as “la”). That said, we all know it’s going to be the mighty コッタ/Koratta (Rattata) or the great guardian トンセル/Toranseru (Metapod). You can look at other possible Pokémon by using ctrl+F to look for names with “ラ” in this list.

Pokkén Tournament is currently available for Japanese arcades. The game will release for Wii U in Japan on March 18 and North America and Europe in spring 2016.

Three new fighters confirmed.

The latest issue of CoroCoro Comic confirms Braixen, Mewtwo, and Garchomp as playable characters in Pokken Tournament for Wii U.

The three characters join the previously announced Blaziken, Charizard, Gardevoir, Gengar, Lucario, Machamp, Pikachu, Pikachu Libre, Sceptile, Shadow Mewtwo, Suicune, and Weavile for a total of 15 playable Pokemon fighters.

A fourth character, teased last week, is expected to be announced on January 15. We know it’s not one of these three characters, as none of these characters’ Japanese names have the character “ラ,” which was part of the teaser.

Pokken Tournament is due out for Wii U on April 28 in Japan and spring 2016 in North America and Europe.

So do you think we can expect more fighters to be revealed before release or to come with the full version? 16 Fighters feel a bit light, especially as two are basically reskins and there is no plan for DLC etc.
Rumors suggest Magmortar, Dragonite, Heracross, Virgoroth, Hawlucha, Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan, Hitmontop, Tyranitar and Swarmpert.
I love all these Pokémon but would you like to see another others.
I'd love to see Empoleon, Poliwrath and Donphan

Developers Explain Why A 3DS Version Of Pokkén Tournament Won’t Happen. February 18, 2016 . 9:30am

Bandai Namco has recently commented that players should not expect a 3DS version of the game,
citing both graphical and financial challenges.

Quote:

Next month, Pokkén Tournament will finally release on the Wii U. However, Bandai Namco has recently commented that players should not expect a portable version for the Nintendo 3DS anytime soon.

Developer Masaaki Hoshino spoke with GameSpot about the difficulty of replicating the graphics of the Wii U version of Pokkén Tournament onto the 3DS.

Here is Hoshino’s full comment:

“It’s definitely a challenge to get it on the Wii U with what we’re doing right now. And it definitely would be a challenge to have the same graphical experience on the 3DS.”

Additionally, Bandai Namco’s Katsuhiro Harada also spoke about the improbability of a 3DS version of the Pokémon fighting game, though it seems he feels the challenge lies more in the financial aspect rather than the graphical. Here is what he had to say:

“Programmer does not need technology. Programmer needs budget.”

Pokkén Tournament will release worldwide for the Wii U on March 18th.
