Zod is just another man like Superman and Brainiac is often portrayed as a dude painted green.

Superman has real alien villains like Darkseid, Kalibak, and Doomsday.

Brainiac has gone through a multitude of incarnations in his long and tenured fictional life, but only one of these was human in origin - John Bryne's post-Crisis revamp of the character, which was quickly abandoned for something more alien. And now the Silver Age alien "living computer" incarnation is back in full force. He's a far more compelling foe than walking plot device Doomsday, while Darkseid is too big a threat to fully do justice to in a Superman film.

Lex Luthor, meanwhile, most definitely doesn't suck as a villain. He's one of the best villains in comics, and has been for many decades. Even if he is just a boring regular human being rather than an awesome-looking alien.

You can't get rid of Lex Luthor. In fact I'd say he was more of a supporting character than a villain.

Lex is too big apart of Metropolis to just leave out.

The funny thing is that the word 'Brainiac' originated from...'Brainiac'! That's right, the creators invented the word for the character's name. I'm surprised that DC never copyrighted it, since now it's a word that's a part of our lexicon.

Today Emma Stone was cast as Gwen Stacey for Spider-Man (the reboot) even though Hollywood Reporter have stated she was in the bag for Mary Jane. It just shows how much we don't know when it comes down to the gossip and rumors.

I hate that Zod is going to be the villain but I understand why WB would choose him. Next to Lex he is Superman's most known villain and they are trying to put butts in seats.

Sigh

I just hope a good actor is cast...if this rumor is true.

If Butler gets Zod... who would get Lex? If only he was taller, I'd say JEH. In Birthright, Superman towered over Lex though.

They probably wouldn't even deliberately call either one Brainiac or Bizarro. Just an off-hand comment like how War Machine and The Abomination's names were said in their movies.

The word superhero originated from Superman. Before him the word didn't exist.

Kryptonite is also a pretty common word also. Superman has a Hell of a lot of influence on pop culture. Every sports team in my school district had sweaters with the \S/ on them, whether they play football, baseball, basketball, even the wrestlers had those sweaters.

I believe Brainiac actually originated as the name of some toy computer from the 50s, and the makers sued DC, which resulted in Brainiac, who originated as a living, organic alien, being turned into an android.

I don't know I think Doc Savage might be.

A lot of characters borrowed things from him... including Superman.

Darkseid is just a dude painted grey and doomsday is just some dude with pointy bones all over his body. And then there's the fact that Doomsday isnt even a character, unlike Brainiac or Zod.

But General Zod was last shown on the big screen in 1980, thats more than 30 years ago.

30 years is long enough.

you act as though its been a few years.

As well as Zod, I see no reason why they can't use Lex and several others.

Hell, bring back Ursa and Non while they are at it.

I want to see Snyder's rubber fetish on the big screen with glowing blue balls and epic sex scenes.

I think it was something like that. Here is the actual scans from Superman 167 where they talked about the "New Brainiac"
