Hmmm, interesting. Particularly your thoughts on Leonard. IMO, he's easily in the discussion. Outside of his last two fights, when he was clearly past his prime, the only person to beat him at his best was Duran, and we all know how that ended in the 2nd fight. I think he was unquestionably the best fighter of his decade, and that's nothing to sneeze at when you have to tussle with Duran and Hearns. And even Hagler which was, admittedly, a close fight that could've went the other way, he still got in there and got it done.

For me, it's a short list. Ray Robinson, Ali, Chavez, Mayweather & Leonard, in pretty much that order...

Can't disagree with you on any of these. I basically threw Leonard out because I think Mayweather is the slightly better boxer and they are very comparable in terms of weight. I also put Hagler in because he beats Leonard pretty handily if he doesn't allow him in his head (but he did). Chavez is one I left out that definitely belongs in the discussion. When you are talking weight divisions, Holyfield belongs as a light heavy IMO. That step up to heavyweight is the most difficult in boxing I think.

EDIT: Also, Leonard was losing to Hearns and caught him in the late rounds. Those were 15 round fights in those days. As a welterweight, Hearns was a devastating puncher and an underrated boxer. What held him back was his chin.

EDIT2: You want to know who was the greatest boxing promoter of all time? Muhammad Ali....that's who.

EDIT3: Pernell Whitaker was a very, very skilled fighter. I think measurably better than the rest of his Olympic mates. If you'll remember, Meldrick Taylor schooled Chavez and, frankly, Chavez lucked out and they stopped the fight with only a few seconds to go (IIRC).

Ali was definitely a great promoter, as well as other things. But something we can't deny is the heart he had as well, taking on some of the biggest punchers in the division's history (Liston, Foreman, Frazier, Norton) and never being knocked out.

No question about Ali's (and Frazier's) heart. Liston, IMO, was overrated. He couldn't have hit Ali if they were in a phone booth (they used to have those.... ). Foreman was undoubtably the hardest puncher of the group you mentioned and was a one punch knockout artist. Frazier and Norton not so much. Don't get me wrong, both could punch, but they (esp Frazier) just kept coming at you and wore you down until you were dust.

If you want to talk about BIG punchers, let's talk Earnie Shavers. If you google his name and knockout (or something like that) you will see some of the hardest punches in the history of boxing. Ask Larry Holmes....

Chisora has started quite well against Whyte.

This is a crazy fight. Haven't seen a heavyweight match with so many heavy punches traded in a long time.

Split decision Whyte wins by closest margin. These guys after all the stupid pre match stuff look like they have a bit of respect for each other finally.

Yep, lived up to all the hype and was value enough to be the main event.

The main event was a waste of time. Completely one-sided. 3rd round KO by Joshua.

Welp...guess Nazim was right about Bernard giving someone the pleasure of beating him badly.

Seriously, they need to stop with that nonsense. Even the Canelo vs Kirkland fight wasn't PPV.

Damn, that Hopkins fight. He needs to retire. He needed to retire ages ago. What a way to go out.

Did he really need the money that badly to still be going for it at that age?

I'm pretty sure B-Hop is fine with money. He's still going because, up until the Kovalev fight, he was still a quality fighter in the division.

Hopefully, he sticks to his word about this being his last fight.

Instead of lamenting on Saul "We don't f*** around" Alvarez, let's talk about a good fight instead.

Who does everyone have winning Degale/Jack tonight?

I've been a Degale fan since his fight with Brandon Gonzales, but Jack has been looking pretty good as of late. I've picked against Jack in two of his last three fights and he proved me wrong in both of them. I'm going to pick Degale but I wouldn't be surprised at all if Jack wins.

A true 50/50 fight. If you put a gun to my head though, I'd lean towards Jack, only because of Mayweather and that's it. I don't see any advantage has over the other.

I feel like Degale is the better fighter, but Jack has been the more consistent one. He's definitely looked much sturdier than he did in his one loss.
