I wonder what new characters we'll see in Mario Kart this time around. I always wanted to see Sonic or Banjo Kazooie on it, SHAME on Nintendo for letting Rare get away.

Looks like the Wii U is getting some retro games of the Yakuza series in Japan for the time being.

Can't put the blame on Nintendo...Rare screwed them over by splitting their own shares with Microsoft so Rare could be in business with the competition...all behind Nintendo's back. So Nintendo just let them go.

I wasn't aware of the whole backstory between Nintendo & Rare. It's really a shame though considering that now Rare is just wasting away at Microsoft.

So Rare then went to Activision and Microsoft where they got engaged in a bidding war. Activision however wasn't in a good position because Microsoft was so rich in cash they could afford to make a high bid ($375 million) and because Nintendo owned half of Rare, they could easily win with a low bid if they wanted to. |

Rare never made anything good after leaving Nintendo, so it's hard for me to get upset about it.

Bull****.
Viva Pinata and Nuts & Bolts were both awesome, and I haven't played it, but I know there are many people who think Kameo was pretty great.

I just wished Nintendo maintained the rights to the games Rare made for them. Banjo is and always will be a Nintendo character.

That'd be awesome. He'd be great in Super Smash Bros too.

Kameo had awkward controls. I hated Nuts & Bolts. The characters were fugly and the physics were buggy. I don't like simulation games to begin with, so I had no interest in playing one where I'm a pinata/garishly-colored animal..

I still don't know how they managed to just let Battletoads and Killer Instinct, two of their bigger possible franchises, go extinct.

I would have mind losing Rare if only Nintendo could have kept total rights at least to Perfect Dark, Banjo, & Conker.

It has begun
Wii U Basic going for $240 at Target 90 Target is currently offering the 8GB Wii U Basic at $239.99, one of the lowest prices if not the lowest price we've seen from a major North American retailer. Put your calculators away: that's 20 percent off the normal price of $300. Back in March, Best Buy put the Wii U Basic on sale at $250 for a couple of days. The Wii U fell below targets In Nintendo's year-end financials, coming in at 3.45 million shipped worldwide as of March 31. According to the estimates of Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter, aka the Pachter-tron, the Wii U sold 55,000 units in the US last month.

Better!
Wonder how cheap it will get during the next gen launches. Once it gets to $199 it'll be open to a much larger audience.

If they drop the price on the deluxe, there better be an ambassador program like the 3DS. Also, with the new Xbox being announced, it looks like Nintendo will be my console of choice for this generation. Not too surprising. The Gamecube was the only console I owned that generation too.

Target is having a sale, it's nothing noteworthy. There have been better deals at Best Buy when they offered Nintendoland for free with the Basic set. When it's a universal price drop, then it will be significant.

that's not a better deal. Target's $240 + Nintendoland (which is $33 at Amazon) for $233 is a much better price than BB's Basic at $299 with the game free. This does appear to be the best deal on the base model since release. Besides what if you don't want Nintendoland? With a $60 savings, you can take that $60 and put it towards something of your own choice instead

Yeah agreed & the sooner the better for a universal price dorp. Probably not likely but $199 for a relatively new system will be tempting for a lot of people not expecting to get it right now if it gets to that by the beginning of next year.

I checked my math. $300 WiiU plus a free Nintendoland (assuming $60 and 7% tax), would only save you $0.01 versus Target's $240 deal. The latter is definitely the better deal, especially if Nintendoland isn't $60 now.
