I found also on my 3rd viewing I didn't like the movie as much. Some of the humour can be overbearing at times and can ruin a few moments.

However the heart and substance was still there. I also feel the movie could have done with about an extra 10 mins on the run time to give us more time with Hela. Also as a Hulk fan he is not in the finale enough for me.

I will be having my 4th viewing soon though and hopefully my criticisms won't effect the viewing as much.

Interesting. I found the humor less overbearing on my second viewing whereas the first time it was jarring to me. I'm looking forward to getting a copy of the movie when it's released and watching it again.

I'm OK with Hulk's presence in the third act. His battle with Fenris was a highlight to me and really showed how powerful he is. But it is Thor's movie after all not Hulk's.

I know Marvel is trying to work around the Universal licensing nonsense but Hulk really just needs his own damn film if you ask me. I feel he's now at a point where you could take him to really interesting places.

Agree about the Hulk getting his own movie. But while I realise it’s a Thor movie, and did love Hulk vs Fenris, I just wanted a bit more, they could have just made the movie longer and included more Hulk run time in the finale rather than reduce any of Thor’s screentime.

In regards to the humour, it’s depends on my mood sometimes with the MCU movies. Sometimes I prefer watching a serious movie, maybe I was that mood last night.

I get that. I loved Ragnarok but I was very glad to see that Black Panther had a much more serious tone like Cap's movies. I like variety and don't want the entire MCU to be just a big joke fest but some properties lend themselves to humor more than others.

Sometimes the humor can take you out of a movie and miss the good stuff. That's how I first felt about GOTG v2. I thought it went overboard with the humor. However on my repeat viewing I found it incredibly moving - particularly the arc with Quill and Yondu. I think it's solid now.

Thor IMO is definitely a property that benefits from humor in order to balance the absurd. It was already humorous before Taika but he just kicked it into overdrive. I found I needed to adjust my perspective to his style in order to enjoy the film. There's so much to love about it that I was willing to do that and even suspend some of my own notions of what I expect from a Thor film.

Meanwhile I'd prefer to see an Iron Man movie go a more serious route. I think Civil War is the best Iron Man movie since the first film. Probably won't happen but I think it would be awesome to see the Russos do one last Iron Man film.

I'm also now glad the Russos are handling the Avengers finale. As much as I love Whedon and his humor, these next two Avengers films need to have the right amount of gravitas to give all these stories in the MCU the resounding and fulfilling conclusion they deserve.

Yeah I don’t disagree with any of that. I enjoyed Ragnorak my first 2 times so maybe last night I felt like something more serious and didn’t realise it. I love GOTG2, but again I have to be in the mood to watch it.

For me the film has just gotten better with rewatching it. I thought it was great right away, but I was still adjusting to be in line with the new tone, so on further rewatchings more things just managed to stand out to me. Especially the small emotional moments play really well for me. I think Waititi did a great job delivering a lot of message with small means, and especially Hiddleston has a couple of scenes where one look tells you several things at once.

Same here, it reminds me of the magic of the classic big 80's fantasy blockbusters that I grew up watching such as Flash Gordon, Big Trouble in Little China, The Neverending Story, e.t.c. I think that's one of the reasons I'm so partial to it, moreso than any other MCU movie. It just makes me feel happy and nostalgic when I watch it.

Well, I enjoyed my 4th viewing more than 3rd, as I say on my 3rd I Ewing I probably wasn’t in the mood for this type of movie.

So were there some lines or scenes that were cut from the trailer?

What about Cate saying "Asgard has fallen"? I don't recall hearing that.

And were Thor, Hulk, Loki and Valkyrie all standing on the Bifrost bridge together like in the trailer? I don't seem to recall it looked the same.

Watched it for the 6th time and what a wonderful time i had again. Love this movie and it holds so well after every viewing.
It has totally become my cup of tea. I can't compliment enough the inspiration, attention and care put into this movie. Sure it's not perfect but for me the good grossly outweigh the rest... and i can easily make an argument for why i love this movie so much.

And it has actually become my favorite MCU movie. Pure joy.

1. Thor Ragnarok
2. Avengers
3. GOTG
4. Winter Soldier
5. Iron Man

The jokes in this still haven't gotten old to me upon multiple viewings. "DON'T KICK STUFF!" and "BIG MONSTER!" still crack me up.

Upon rewatching the movie there was a small detail i hadn't noticed previously and it's so funny. It's when Hulk is throwing the ball against the wall... The hole scene is great but there's a moment when Thor talks to Valkyrie and he is like "It's me, you and the big guy" and then Hulk says "No team only Hulk!". When he says this the ball bounces back from the wall and he is not able to catch it... it just makes him such a big kid. I loved that detail.

So i saw this last night - what a departure from 'cannon' tone.

The humour, most of it fell flat and took me out. The shake weight, the asleep on glass and face smushed up, the so many earth jokes that just wouldn't be happening out in the cosmos. DJ'ing grand master, how everyone sounded aussie.

It took me out of the film - however, Thor himself was very likeable, besides the odd forced joke, i liked him and banner.

I forget the female asgardian's name, but she was presented as this drunk, almost rebel bounty hunter, then to be this beautiful warrior - was a weird progression and i didn't buy it at the start.
Hela looked amazing and very attractive. Loki was presented well - what a waste of Anthony Hopkins.

This film, at times i was thinking 'what is going on', i dunno it, was too messy and basically tears the previous Thor movies down. The director having a speaking part - i felt the voice and delivery was too flat.

Maybe my humour is different, but i felt a lot of the humour was forced and not needed. Humour aside, it had potential.

Watched it for the 7th time and now with Taika's commentary. What an absolute gem it was, so interesting, funny, informative and very sweet. Taika had the contribution of his 2 year old daughter that sometimes came in and described how she felt about the movie. Their father and daughter interactions where just gold and perfect.

For those who, like me, are unabashed fans of this movie it's truly a must watch/hear feature. Brilliant stuff once again. And there is still stuff to learn about the movie itself and Taika's care for the characters... but always with that Taika levity we come to love and appreciate.

Finally saw this the other day. I liked it but thought they overdid it with the humor. Turning the destruction of Asgard into a punchline moment for a joke struck me as very tasteless. Couldn't they have left that one moment alone?

If you remove all the humor and comedy, it's actually a really dark movie. And knowing what happens in IW, it now only makes the movie even darker

I agree

I was fine with the humor through most of the film except for the opening scene with Surtur, the ball hitting Thor in the head, and Korg's punchline when Asgard blew up.
