Frank Miller is no more. His evil twin took over and is trying to ruin everything.

I like how the internet turned a rumor about Snyder possibly meeting with Miller to discuss Superman/Batman into Frank Miller actually being the screenwriter.

Regarding Batwoman...its not like either of them are hot *****. Both are publicity stunts at their core, and are only kept relevant due to being the character pet of a high profile writer or artist.

I don't know whether to be excited or just facepalm. Also why the hell is Action Comics being forced to tie into this Zero Year story in a couple of months? can't Snyder just create a Bat arc without it turning into a DCU spanning event? freaking current day DC editorial man they need to learn that sometimes they just need to let certain books and their writers BREATHE.

Just finished #23

I am enjoying Zero Year. I think the Riddler is being written well as the over-confident and arrogant puzzler. Quite enjoyed his exchange and defeat of Philip Kane. I can't say that I care for the sideburns, but haters gonna hate I suppose. Anxious anticipation of the Riddler/Batman showdown. I have no words for the RHGang. They strike me as a vehicle for Riddler shenanigans at the moment.

Zero Year has given me an excuse for a Riddler binge. I went and bought#452-#454 "Dark Knight, Dark City". I had thought that the Barbathos/Bat Demon bit was Morrison's creation. Not too keen on a violent Nigma, but I suppose being possessed makes it less bad?

Also ordered an original #179 and will likely order #171 in the near future. I expect some good old fashion Silver Age wackiness.

Agreed. I am also (really) enjoying Zero Year, as well.

It's written by Pak, so just think of it as an extension of Superman/Batman.

Why does everyone think that Snyder forces everyone to do these tie in comics? Does Scott Snyder really have that much say over all of DC Comics? Really?

Eh, it's just what people do. Regardless of whose idea it was... If Pak, Lemire, Manapul/Booch, and Venditti are down with it, so am I.

So... Thomas Wayne convenienty left his son some magic ball that projects a cave, therefor leads to him seeing digital bats and to become Batman in the New 52?

MEH.

They totally ruined a very epic original sequence. Why even retread that if you're rebooting? It makes no sense, once again he shakes things up for no reason to just keep shoving in things we've already seen to try and make us old school comic guys feel somewhat ok that they're are half-rebooting.

Who said it was Snyder? I put the blame on the crappy modern day DC editorial where it belongs.

Yeah that was just WTF. I was actually enjoying the issue up to that point. It just seemed pretty jarring and unnecessary. Ringing the bell after seeing the bat because he's bleeding to death & had an epiphany >>>> that stuff.

I'd prefer if he just kept any ideas he has for that story within that particular book. I've never really been a fan of "EVERYTHING MUST CONNECT!!! CONTINUITY!!!" I prefer individual books stand out on their own with their own individual arcs. At this point it's whatever though.

Really enjoyed Batman 23. The back up "The Pit" was cool too.

He gave Bruce the mapping/scanning sphere when he was a kid, he dropped it in the cave where he fell, it scanned the cave. It was left in the house, undisturbed after the death of the Waynes, until Bruce came back that night. I actually thought it was kinda cool. No more sacreligious than the shifted nods to the Silver Age DC writers were doing in the reboots in the 80's.

Yeah that was very cool. More subtle than the Beyond suit in that Clayface issue awhile back. I love that Beyond seems to be future continuity, to Snyder at least.

So mechanical and lifeless ! It takes everything off Batman being almost supernatural. I mean with Court of Owls he tried to make everything in Gotham orchestrated, a big conspiracy that is shaping The Wayne's lives for centuries and then he does this stupid thing. What was wrong with the origin we had ? What the hell was wrong with Morrison's Arkham Asylum treatment ? that the Bat as an entity and symbol was always around Gotham. It fits perfectly with the Court of Owls. Why make it so sterile ?

I don't think this simple device changes any of that. The cave beneath the house, him falling in, him seeing the bat are all still there. This makes the idea of the bat being a message sent from his father even more powerful (some may say cheesy, but it works for me) I don't think it's sterile at all, just a different visual to get the idea across. There's nothing wrong with the previous origin, but this is comics, reboots happen, and this is an entertaining retelling of that moment that still holds true to the character.

And I don't see that as what he was doing with Court of Owls at all. That story was at it's heart a way of personifying Gotham. Bruce starts that story cocky, he thinks he knows Gotham City inside and out, that there's nothing it can throw at him that he doesn't see coming. And then the city rears it's head and says "You think you know me? Here." And it comes at him with an enemy that he's not only never seen before, but one that is so close to him and his family that it's frightening. That story is about Gotham City humbling the Batman.

Received my copy of Batman #179 yesterday. Nigma tangled up Robin with a giant crossword puzzle. He also threw exploding puzzle pieces at Batman. The picture made when you put those pieces together? A picture of the Riddler.

These.Things.Happened.

The Silver age was either a great time for comics or the greatest time for comics.

Listening to the new Grant Morrison on Fat Man on Batman...

He just dropped the bomb that Batman actually killed the Joker at the end of Killing Joke, and that is why you see Batman reach out at him and the laughter just stops.

Wow, that changes so much about that book in my eyes. Who know that that could be under our noses for 20+ years?
