Probably, but just as England have very different test and T20 teams, I think they should explore different hone and touring teams. I suppose Root, Stokes, Moeen and Bairstow would play in each, but few others.

Can you say more about this as to roughly how you'd pick the home and away team if you could? I'm quite interested.

I still think folks like Anderson and Broad are kinda toxic in the dressing room atmosphere. Nothing to back that up except few judgments based on how they have behaved publicly and few accounts from the KP issue days. But I feel this is a good time to let go of most of that old guard and bring in a young team. Something like this might work:

Stoneman
Hameed
Root (c)
Malan
Bairstow (wk)
Stokes (vc)
Ali
Woakes
Overton
Rashid
<insert fast bowler>

They have to groom at least one out and out quick bowler and they have to trust their leggies - whether it is Crane or Rashid. Moeen Ali is a batsman who bowls and always has been. He is not gonna win you games on good tracks or even get you 3-fers on good tracks which you sometimes need.

In large part you could follow the lead of the shorter format, as the skill set is more aligned with that required for flat fast Australian wickets.

So in your English team you have:

Cook
Stoneman
Hameed
Root
Malan
Stokes
Moeen
Bairstow

Woakes
Broad
Anderson

And in your international team you have:

Hales
Roy
Root
Malan
Stokes
Moeen
Bairstow

Rashid / Crane
Plunkett
J Overton
C Overton / Wood (which ever is the quicker at the time).

The second team has more attacking batsmen and more pace and spin, but less control in either discipline. But there is still a lot of variety and batting depth (Rashid, Plunkett and J Overton are each decent with the bat).

I think Moeen is underrated as an off-spinner, but he is certainly inconsistent. I wouldn't dump the old guard entirely, but rather treat them as specialists.

That's great, thanks! All makes sense.

Not sure if you do not have the Overton bros crossed over there. I thought J Overton was the quick one and C Overton the guy who can bowl dry and bat decently. And yeah, I do not think Ali is underrated at all as I have seen many English fans claim he is even the best offie in the world a few times (mostly after he gets poles during the English home tests) but the point is, him playing as your only spinner on good batting tracks will always fail. They need one of the leggies to play and let Moeen concentrate on keeping runs down. That is when he is actually able to get wickets.

Finally a positive day for England. Australia collapse at the end of their first innings after a good start (327 final score) and England are on 192-2 with Cook getting an unbeaten century.

Yeah, you start wondering where was this Cook and Root earlier. TBF though its the kind of wicket that produces draws. Hopefully England pull this one out though.

I guess the pressure of competing in the series is off now too.

Well England are finally beginning to do something. THe first innings is nearly over. England 491 -9 (with Cook 244!) in response to Australia's 327.

So after the draw, rain has helped chances of possibly getting another draw in the final game which is now under way. 3-0 sounds a lot better than 5-0 at least.

Final Test over and we get away with 4-0. The best thing to say about all this is that at least it wasn't 5.

Ben Stokes named man of the match in his 2nd match back to help England beat NZ in the 2nd one dayer. Good to see him back.

I don’t like cricket much so I don’t follow, but it seems like this ball tampering thing by the three Aus players has been blown a little bit out of proportion?

It comes back to our cultural values which is play hard but play fair. The Australian cricket team is held to a very high standard and considered an extension of those values on the world stage. And the captains roll is considered to be more important than the Prime Minister’s roll. So this incident hurt a lot of people. The problem was this team has slowly deteriorated over the last few years, it became arrogant and disliked for how they taunted other teams and officials. Nobody was happy with their behaviour but because they were winning everyone kinda just bit their tongue. They pushed the limits of what was acceptable. But no-one though they would resort to cheating and so it’s become a national shame. The punishment is harsh but it’s also necessary.

This is how I viewed it and how I thought Aussie fans were thinking of it.

I agree with the punishment, but I have to admit (even as a South African) I felt like the media witch hunt/storm in a teacup reaction felt excessive. I don't mind criticizing the players for their conduct and banning them, but near the end of Smith's conference I felt sorry for him.

They cheated and should be disciplined, but eventually it seemed like the guys were mass murderers or something.

Do you guys think Cricket will ever catch on in North America in a mainstream capacity? It's slowly happening with socc.....football. Do you want them to? Given that if America embraces cricket it will fastly come to dominate the sport with sheer capital. Think India but on an even bigger scale.

Can’t see that happening, they’ve embraced football since the 70s and have yet to win a World Cup.

I think it would have happened by now if it was going to happen. At least India always had the underlying interest and market for it. With soccer it's been building slowly for decades and is still only so big.

That's the media with everything now really.

It would have to rely on a lot of ex-pats from cricketing nations in order for it to kick on. The main issue is facilities, there's only one purpose built cricket stadium in the country somewhere in Florida.
