What about Vinnie Jones? He's British and tough but he can have a bit of a laugh too.

It's funny, I never 'pictured' (for want of a better word) a British voice when I heard Rocket's voice before. I would be very happy to hear a British accent though!

I wonder how late into the process of this film they can get away with not casting Raccoon?

I would think that with the advancements of CGi and stuff, they don't just want someone to walk into a studio and do a voice, but want someone on set all dotted up like Braff in Oz or Serkis in Planet of the Apes doing the role with the actors.

I actually think that Peter Dinklage would be great (sans the faux british accent).

He was great in 'Death at a funeral'. Wonder if it'll clash with X-men: Days of Future Past though?

Even if someone does mocap doesn't mean that they will be the one to voice the character. So probably pretty late.

David Tennant is the recent rumor for Rocket Raccoon. I would be pretty happy with that choice. His accent is pretty good for the role, I can just picture his exact voice from Fright Night as Rocket Raccoon and it sounds pretty good.

I know this was touched upon a while back but Rocky WAS originally portrayed with a British accent:

He also shows off his slightly germaphobic tendencies. I really do hope they keep that aspect of him. It would add some more personality.

^ glad that was posted.. haven't seen that yet and it really gives good grounding to him being British.

That actually lends support to him not having a British accent. The creators made a conscious decision to change the way he speaks as well as other aspects of the character pretty much immediately. What you have there is the equivalent of the unaired pilot. A proof of concept, not consistent with the extended canon.

He does have a hint of an accent in his mini series though. It just wasn't as pronounced as his original appearance. A few quotes from the mini series:

"I'm sure it is Wal--An' I'll be in jus' as soon as I can make some sense out of the symbols scrawled in the Half-World Bible."

"Natch Wal. To approach Judson Jakes sanctum ...."

"When we got separated I thought it best to hie me back to our vessel--"

Just a few examples. I'm not one of the those who think that they will "ruin" the character or anything if he doesn't have an accent but I think it would be a nice change. Everyone cast for the movie so far has an american accent already.

Rocket Raccoon with a Brit accent would make just as much sense as him having an American accent. Out of the two give me the British accent. And not because Marvel Vs Capcom 3.

Here's a thought.

In that bombshell Hitfix article a few days ago that leaked a ton of info about GOTG (assuming any of that turns out to be true at all), there was this nugget:

Quote:
[Rhomann] Dey is going to be the primary face of normal humanity for the "Guardians" films, and Reilly would be an intriguing addition to the Marvel Universe. He's got the exact right demeanor for a movie featuring talking trees, weapon-bearing raccoons and walruses, and lots of drop-ins from outer space. He'll have a peer, someone who is their liaison for the Guardians, and Marvel is looking at names as disparate as Hugh Laurie, Alan Rickman, and Ken Watanabe for that part.

So, according to Drew McWeeny, Rhomann Dey (John C. Reilly) will be a human (or an *apparent* human....) who acts as a liaison between the Guardians and SHIELD, keeping SHIELD abreast of the Guardians; and Dey will have a counterpart in the Guardians themselves. And this counterpart is supposedly casting for Alan Rickman, Hugh Laurie, or Ken Watanabe (maybe others).

So.....what if this "liaison" is Rocket himself? Rocket reports to Rhomann Dey, who reports to SHIELD. Hell, maybe Rocket is even something of a deep-cover agent who's secretly reporting to "the cops" --- Nova Corps --- while being part of a notorious "criminal" organization called the Guardians.

I still don't know about that reporting to SHIELD thing. That doesn't make sense to me. Maybe SWORD, that would make a little more sense, but why the hell would SHIELD be keeping tabs on stuff happening in a different galaxy much less be working with Nova Corps? They didn't even know aliens existed until Avengers.

Yeah, I agree; but it comes down to a similar discussion we've all been having over in the Marvel Films forum on whether or not there is/should be a SWORD in the MCU. Some posters think that SWORD is redundant, that SHIELD itself is a big enough entity to include intergalactic espionage in its wheelhouse. Either way, even if the MCU designates a separate division for that in SWORD, it's pretty likely that SWORD and SHIELD answer to the same bosses.

Honestly, that's one of the reasons I doubt that entire 'scoop'. It makes no sense for a human organization of *any* variety to be "keeping tabs" on alien criminals who are on the other side of the galaxy. Not at this point in the metaplot.

To play devil's advocate here: I got the vibe from Nick Fury in TA1 that he certainly knew about alien activity here on earth. He seemed to have more than a little knowledge about the Asgardians, and seemed to imply that the whole purpose of the Avenger Initiative was to prepare against alien incursions specifically.
