this be a solid 9 from me

im glad they didnt do a prequel-ish style for Punisher's first season, given that Frank was a pretty major character in DD S2. loved how they weaved the multitude of plots into a cohesive story that still fed into each other and helped paint what Frank Castle is all about-- not just the ultraviolent vigilante that Punisher is usually known for. they made him human without lessening his badassery. thats not very easy to do but they did it with aplomb

Decent, but a missed opportunity.

10/10 easy. Right up there with DD seasons 1 and 2 which were both also 10/10 for me. These 3 seasons are the cream of the crop.

No it wasn't. It had one of the best payoffs (if not the best payoff) of the entire MCU.

The moments with Micro's family are actually some of my favorite moments in this season and with lesser talent, this could have been really wrong, but they nailed it.

For folks that were expecting something more procedural or 13 hours of bullet porn, I understand why some of this didn't work for you, but it wasn't filler.

Solid 9.

A true tortured, vengeful man that still has some heart. Perfectly reflected in what we got. Probably the 3rd best Netflix series, right up there with DDS1 and JJ.

Yea Mr Bernthal blew my mind, even Thomas Jane (who I thought was great as The Punisher) didn't have the screen presence or the natural badassness Jon has.

I agree no filler at all with either of those. I think like you said some were expecting bullet porn up the wazoo. Unrealistic expectation and frankly not needed or warranted.

Loved the show. I gave it an 8/10 overall. Bernthal gets a 10, Micro and Billy 9s. It had its weak points but I didn’t mind the pacing. Quite interesting for a change.

Solid 7/10

Don't think Frank was watered down at all. The show gave him a lot of layers and nuance, but also showed he was still crazy deep down. Ben Barnes gave a great performance as Billy Russo, and but I think some major props have to be given to Ebon Moss-Bachrach. He really helps uphold his end of his relationship with Frank. It's one of the more compelling relationships in the Netflix MCU, and doesn't feel rote like the typical cop/vigilante relationship we're used to.

The action was serviceable, but I think at this point in the TV side we aren't gonna see anything particularly mind-blowing. I do think the final showdown felt a little flat, but I appreciate what they were going for. There was a strong emotional payoff to seeing Billy get what he deserved.

9/10

It would easily be a 10/10 if they hadn't made the pro-gun control congressman a cowardly charlatan. I'm not saying that all politicians who advocate stronger gun laws are saints, but I also don't believe that they're all slimy opportunists either and the show almost seemed to be implying that. Furthermore, if the narrative is that all politicians are sleazy, then I feel like they should have given pro-gun conservatives who are owned by the gun lobby equal time. The whole thing felt like they were throwing a bone to the gun-toting MAGA idiots. Now, to be fair, they did make the pro-NRA/anti-liberal member of the PTSD group a fraud and a bigot, so I didn't feel like the show was entirely right-leaning either.

I suppose this is the larger problem with the Punisher in the current political climate we're in; the "good guy with a gun" narrative is a load of crap, however, it's cathartic (for some of us at least) to watch a heroic character in a movie blow a bunch of bad guys away. But then, that's why the Punisher works as a comic book superhero story and not a true social commentary; if someone was really going around doing the stuff that Frank does, he'd very likely be dead within a month and his actions would be highly controversial to say the least.

All that said, this show was great overall and these gripes are minor. Jon Bernthal was outstanding as Frank... easily the best interpretation of the character to date. I liked Thomas Jane and Ray Stevenson wasn't terrible (even if his movie was) but they don't hold a candle to Bernthal. He encompasses everything you want Frank Castle to be... filled with rage, but also methodical and calculating in his methods, and at his core, a good man with a lot of heart.

Ben Barnes is also quite a standout as Billy Russo. Although I knew where his character was ultimately going, I wasn't sure at first whether it would turn out that he was in on everything from the beginning or if his turn would be a gradual one, because he genuinely appears to care about Frank at the beginning. So great job with him, and I can't wait to see what the future has in store for Billy now that he's... a little less pretty. That mirror scene. Damn.

Amber Rose Revah was great as Madani. She was badass and determined, but also not afraid to knock the boots with someone she's into. I look forward to seeing where they take her character in future seasons, and I wouldn't mind seeing her pop up elsewhere in Marvel's Netflix universe.

The rest of the actors were really good too; I didn't find any weak links. Rawlings/Agent Orange was creepy as hell, Curtis was the kinda guy you want in your corner, and Lewis was a classic ticking time bomb.

Bring on season 2.

9 or 10. I mean nothing is perfect, but this show damn near is. Very swift and painless binge.

Thought provoking with tons of true to character violence (Although I'm baffled as to why there was no profanity in a show where a man had his eyes gouged out).

Fully fleshed out character. Was nothing like the 1 dimension psycho I thought he would be.

Great story. I loved how the Homeland plot complimented Franks revenge campaign. And even Lewis's story wasn't wasted.

I very rarely re-watch shows, even the ones I enjoy, but I'm going to plan another binge for this.

Wow huge praise from Negan himself Jeffrey Dean Morgan...https://twitter.com/jdmorgan/status/935877660173131777...Im saying if Jon Bernthal doesnt get an emmy nomination it's only because The Punisher is a comic book franchise...His performance was mindblowingly good imo.

He should already have a win for Daredevil 2, Emmys have been a joke for a while now.

Loved the series other than that side plot with the traumatized kid, that was just unnecessary we didn't need whole backstory of him. I hope season 2 is a go because this is the best of Marvel's shows that I've seen

Nice to see. Unfortunately comic book properties are just something that pays the bills, but not to be taken seriously. The fact that Tennant received no nod speaks volumes to me considering JJ reflected something of political/social importance. Although maybe it hit too close to home in retrospect.... Oh well, great either way.

yea I personally don't watch these award shows anyway, if they're gonna recognize the best performances they should consider all genres not just the ones they like. Bernthal in Punisher, Tennant in JJ and even Hugh Jackman in Logan was such a beautiful performance but they get no love. Maybe I'm just a huge comic book nerd or something but those performances are on the same level as the stuff that actually gets nominated.

I'm still hoping Jackman gets awards love, he is campaigning this year, but they will probably nominate a bunch of people for usual Awards bait movies

On the joy scale it is definitely a 10/10 for me, that is what I voted for on the poll. Quality meter reads more like a 7.5-8/10.

Order of joy for me goes like this:
  1. The Punisher
  2. Daredevil season 2
  3. Jessica Jones
  4. Daredevil season 1
  5. Defenders
  6. Iron Fist
  7. Luke Cage

I agree with this more. I also think most of the first episode is filler material.

I really love this Netflix universe. Outside of the casting of Iron Fist (the show itself I can still enjoy, again outside of the crap martial arts), I love ALL the shows. It seems I like Luke Cage more than most and pretty much everything else is approaching a similar level of great. DDS2 is my favourite to date.

The one that really should have stood out on top is Defenders and unfortunately it didn't do that. I really hope we get a Defenders 2 as this universe is built for crossing over and it could work so well. The interactions between the characters were fine but we need to see a much better story and action in the main event series. And I don't see why it needs to be limited to 8 episodes. Budget is a concern but then if they'd spent the money the thing might have taken off.

I'd rate it just below JJ and DD; which is still really, really good. 8+/10 not really quite 9/10.

EDIT: Maybe 8.4356290054 or somewhere around there.

Yea I liked Luke Cage a lot and I even liked Iron Fist. This universe is so cohesive I wouldnt even be surprised if Frank cameos or even guest stars in another series. This stuff is way more riveting than the MCU films in my opinion.
