Send in your questions for the Final Fantasy director.

Following this morning’s Japanese Active Time Report, Square Enix Europe intends to hold another Active Time Report broadcast featuring Final Fantasy Type-0 HD and XV director Hajime Tabata next Thursday, February 26.
“Hajime Tabata is coming to London!” Square Enix Europe writes in a blog post. “As part of his visit we are going to host an Active Time Report to talk about Final Fantasy Type-0 HD and maybe a little bit more about Final Fantasy XV.”
Square Enix is inviting fans to send in questions for Tabata, which you can do in the comments section on its official blog. While the stream will mainly focus on Type-0 HD, Square says some questions about the XV demo included with early copies are acceptable.
You’ll be able to watch the stream live on February 26 at 11:00 a.m. GMT / 6:00 a.m. EST via the Square Enix Presents YouTube channel.

Final Fantasy XV: Episode Duscae Screens Show Behemoth And Noctis’ Jump Ability. February 23, 2015 . 12:01am

Unlike previous Final Fantasy titles, the experience you gain during battles in Final Fantasy XV won’t be given to your characters right away. The points will store as you defeat monsters, and it will distribute once you get to camp.

Quote:

Final Fantasy XV will still be in development for a while, but while waiting, Square Enix will provide fans who get early copies of Final Fantasy Type-0 HD with the Final Fantasy XV: Episode Duscae demo. 4Gamer shares a look at some of the demo’s features.

Final Fantasy XV: Episode Duscae will center around Noctis and his friends, as they explore fields and dungeons, while taking on battles and missions.

The game’s time goes by in real-time, so there are plenty of differences depending on the time of day. The above screenshot shows a look at a gas station during the night.

Camps are an important element in the adventure of Noctis and friends. This is where you’ll get to eat meals to enhance your status, and also arrange your weapon equipment and various other settings. This is also where you’ll get to check out conversations among the friends.

Unlike previous Final Fantasy titles, the experience you gain during battles won’t be given to your characters right away. The points will store as you defeat monsters, and it will distribute once you get to camp. So that means you’ll need to stop by the camp for the characters to actually level up after you get to give them the experience points you’ve acquired.

The above screenshot shows Noctis’ eyes turning red. It still remains a mystery as to how and what this means.

Noctis is shown using a spear and the Jump ability in the above image. Final Fantasy XV will feature all kinds of weapons to collect, along with some familiar abilities. While monsters roam around during the day, things get extra dangerous at night.

The Episode Duscae demo will have some quests, as you explore the vast fields. The further you go, you’ll find some more missions, so it’ll be a good idea to look around different places. They say that you can get plenty of money by taking out a Behemoth…
Speak of the Behemoth, here’s a look at him showing up! The fight against Behemoth will be a tough one, and you’ll need to take advantage of it not being able to see out of one of its eyes.

Final Fantasy XV is in development for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Check out our earlier report for the latest from director Hajime Tabata’s recent Active Time Report livestream.

Final Fantasy XV Will Have Some "Brutal Scenes". February 25, 2015 . 12:30am

First, the Final Fantasy XV: Episode Duscae demo included with first print copies of Final Fantasy Type-0 HD will be roughly 5 GB in size.

Quote:

Director Hajime Tabata shared more information about Final Fantasy XV during an interview with JPGames.de. First, the Final Fantasy XV: Episode Duscae demo included with first print copies of Final Fantasy Type-0 HD will be roughly 5 GB in size.

Tabata also commented a bit about Final Fantasy XV’s story and mentioned that there will be some shocking moments and some brutal scenes, something that Tabata felt was important after his work on Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII.

Another interesting tidbit is the team thought about having a menu where players can adjust the amount of blood they would see or DLC that could change the game’s rating similar to The Evil Within. Final Fantasy XV does not have a rating yet, but typically Final Fantasy games are rated T in the West or CERO B in Japan. Final Fantasy Type-0 for PSP pushed the boundaries being rated CERO C followed by Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII which was also rated CERO C.

Final Fantasy XV trailers highlight dungeon, wildlife

Published 3 hours ago. 29 comments.

Quote:
New information from today's London-based Active Time Report.

Square Enix released a new pair of Final Fantasy XV videos today showcasing the Epsiode Duscae demo’s cave dungeon and wildlife.
The dungeon clip takes viewers through a dark cave where Noctis and company battle a number of goblins. The wildlife video, properly dubbed “World of Wonder,” provides a National Geographic-like look at the chocobos, monsters, and other creatures of Final Fantasy XV. (And it’s really quite nice.)
Speaking during a London-based Active Time Report today, Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata shared more details about the game.
Clarifying the game’s map size, Tabata said that the Duscae region in the demo is only a single part of the entire Duscae region. The region in full is much bigger, and has some large urban areas and towns, as well as old ruins and similar areas. The full game’s map is over 10 times the size of the entire Duscae region.
There won’t be any towns in the demo, unfortunately, but there will be a lot of towns in the main game, Tabata said. The demo will have a number of interesting outposts and little facilities, however. And while you’ll be exploring a lot of the field, there will also be fun and interesting human interactions. There are some comical encounters, too. Tabata says to look out for a certain couple.
As you’ll see in the wildlife video, chocobos will be in the demo, but you won’t be able to ride them. In the full game, you’ll be able to use them for transportation around the field.
Tabata also revealed that the demo’s maximum possible character level is 99, and the slowdown effect when weapons strike enemies has recently been tweaked.
Additionally, speaking to IGN, Tabata discussed the game’s recently publicly shared ‘60 percent complete‘ number.
“It’s about 60 percent now. People may look at that and say ‘well, you’ve only done five more percent [since the Tokyo Game Show]!’ but it’s actually a lot more complicated than that.
“In some ways I’m being very conservative in my estimates there and not wanting to put out too big a number. Developing big games on a large scale like this… it’s not very even in terms of each area of the game being created, so you have uneven development processes where some things are nearly done, and others are still at prototype stage.
“What we’ve tried to do for the demo is we took what we had ready by last autumn and had some teams spend some time to make sure it’s optimized to show to the public now. The order in which you develop something obviously isn’t going to see you complete something and then move onto the next thing, so some things in the middle of development had to be shoved forward to be ready for the public and that’s what we’ve done with the demo.
“But because of the way development works, now we’ve seen a solid milestone, and using that it means the end is in sight in some ways. After that’s released and we continue on with development there may be times where we move on with massive leaps and bounds, so the overall number shoots up by 10 percent at a time. I think we’re looking at a much faster development in the near future.”

Final Fantasy XV World Map Will Be Ten Times The Size Of The Duscae Region. February 26, 2015 . 7:02am

Final Fantasy XV’s world map will be about ten times the size of the “Duscae Region,” and the demo will only contain a part of the region to boot.

Quote:

Final Fantasy XV
director Hajime Tabata shared the latest details and a look at several gameplay footage clips during the Active Time Report in London. Here’s a summary highlighting what was talked about during the event. [Thanks, Game Jouhou]

  • In the demo, you won’t be able to use other weapons [of the same type], nor will you be able to use all the actions of the weapon. This was done so you can get a taste of how each weapon plays. That said, Tabata would be more than happy to hear about suggestions on weapon customization.

  • The demo won’t feature any armor or accessories, but they’ll be in the full game.

  • Cars can go on highways, but when you’re off the road, you’ll be able to travel by foot or Chocobo. There will be other means of transportation as well.

  • While Tabata couldn’t share more details on, he said that there will be trains in the game.

  • When asked whether it’d be too easy to simply hold down a button to continuously evade enemy attacks, Tabata said not necessarily, as you can take hits from other directions, and you’ll lose your MP before you know it if you do that. Those who prefer to play with a more technical style could also press it to barely get it done in time for minimal MP consumption. The demo will have several Phantom Swords to acquire, but there will also be something that you can get later that has technical evasions that won’t cost you any MP to use.

  • The final build for the demo is not complete yet. They’re still working on last minute touch-ups, and look forward to hearing feedback from players who get the demo.

  • The demo won’t have button layout customizations. While they will include it in the full version, Square Enix would like to hear more about suggestions on custom menus from players who play the demo.

  • The demo will let you go all the way up until level 99. It still remains unknown whether we’ll get to go beyond that in the full version.

  • Tabata’s favorite character is Ignis.

  • They also demonstrated the above video, showing a little bit of dungeon exploration on the Xbox One version of the game. “Dungeons in old Final Fantasy games have a scary image to them, so the concept we’ve gone with was to reproduce that feeling with the latest technology,” said Tabata. In addition to Goblins, dungeons are filled with tons of monsters.

  • Some people felt shared their concern from the previous gameplay footage about the “hit-stop” effect (the slight delay when a sword goes through an enemy to give the attack and enemy a feeling of weight) being too long. According to Tabata, the current version has toned it down, and it lets you fight with a better tempo.

  • Final Fantasy XV’s world map will be about ten times the size of the “Duscae Region,” and the demo will only contain a part of the region to boot.

  • There won’t be any towns in the demo, but there will be a little facility. There are NPCs there, whom you’ll be able to interact with. For example, you’ll see an amusing couple, and such.

  • You’ll be able to meet Chocobos in the demo, but you can’t ride them. You’ll get to do so in the full version.

  • The above footage focuses on Final Fantasy XV’s nature spots, where you’ll see beautiful scenery, and animals and creatures in their natural habitat. Tabata said that this is something they’re putting much effort into, and joked about having something like “The World of Final Fantasy XV” as a BBC or National Geographic special.

You can watch the full Active Time Report in its entirety in the below video. The Final Fantasy XV begins at around the 1:37:00 mark.

Final Fantasy XV at PAX East: New Episode Duscae area, buddies detailed, and more
Published 5 hours ago. 150 comments.

Tons of words for you to read follow.

Square Enix held a “Behind the Game Designs of Final Fantasy XV” panel featuring lead game designers Wan Hazmer and Prasert “Sun” Prasertvithyakarn at PAX East in Boston today.
Sun and Hazmer are lead designers in different areas of the game. Here are brief outlines of what each designer does:
  • Prasert “Sun” Prasertvithyakarn - The lead gamer designer for the Buddy team, which is in charge of the AI characters and how they behave with the player—how they battle, how they walk, how they talk, etc. Sun says that many people take these AI characters for granted, because in most games they’re just there for the sake of the story, but in Final Fantasy XV, they play a significant role, and they’re trying to create a “revolution” in terms of what these AI characters can do.
  • Wan Hazmer - The lead game designer for the Culture team, which is in charge of creating cultures for the world of Final Fantasy XV. This includes building civilizations, food, and the stories behind the towns surrounding the game’s world map. Hazmer says that they don’t just want to make a town to be a rest stop, they want it to be rich with culture.
Tabata wasn’t able to make the panel, unfortunately, as he’s in Japan attending his daughter’s graduation.
The Next Final Fantasy
The goal for the next Final Fantasy is always to “create the best Final Fantasy in the series,” as well as “retain the charm of [the series] and package it into a new experience. That charm is “fantasy with believably.”
Sun explains that there are lots of games where the hero travels alone, but not in the Final Fantasy series, and especially not in XV. The follow you, not behind you, but alongside.
Final Fantasy XV is a game about a road trip with your best buddies in a fantastical yet believable world,” a slide proceeds to read.
Episode Duscae
The Final Fantasy XV: Episode Duscae demo included with early copies of Final Fantasy Type-0 HD is named after the region Duscae, which features a lot of vast greenland and natural land formations. The part you’ll be able to explore in Episode Duscae is only part of the region, which itself is part of a bigger world more than 10 times bigger than the Duscae region itself.
There is a reason you’re stuck in the Duscae region in the demo. Your car is broken, because one certain blonde guy (ahem, Prompto) broke your car. So for the mechanic Cindy to fix your car, you’ll need to get money, which is the objective of the demo. You can figure out how to get the money yourself, but the demo’s main quest is to defeat the Behemoth, a creature wanted for a huge sum of money. If you take on the Behemoth quest, the first thing you’ll need to do is look for it by spotting footprints and such. But you’ll also get many other quests.
When it’s nighttime, many dangerous creatures will come out. So you can choose to camp (which auto-saves the game) in order to avoid them. When you camp, Ignis will cook for you and give you buffs. Buffs in Episode Duscae include:
  • Fresh – Slightly increases attack, defense, and EXP gained.
  • Prime – Greatly increases attack, defense, and EXP gained.
  • Sharp – Increases critical hit rate.
  • Immune – Negates status ailments.
In Episode Duscae, the food cooked is chosen by Ignis, but in the full game, players will get to choose what’s made.
Here is the official fact sheet outline of Episode Duscae, via Square Enix:
Backstory
When you’ve spent your entire life looking out at the serrated city skyline, it’s easy to lose yourself in the sprawling Duscaen landscape. The prince and his retinue were halfway to Cauthess when their daydreams came to a sudden, screeching halt—the Regalia’s last gasp before giving out to the unpaved backroads.
Now they were truly lost in the landscape: broken down by the side of the road with the Disc well out of walking distance. The Archaean, Titan, would have to wait. He’d been dormant for ages anyway. The first order of business was getting back on four wheels.
Key Features
  • A New Generation of Final Fantasy: The latest platform technology brings Duscae to life, rendering fast-paced action against breathtaking backdrops under a sky that changes in real time.
  • Open World Exploration: Guide Noctis and his entourage over the plains, through the woods, into the dungeons and around the outposts of Duscae as players roam freely about the expansive region.
  • Action-Packed Combat: Final Fantasy XV is the first Final Fantasy flagship title to give players direct control over combat in real-time, resulting in an exhilarating action RPG experience.
  • Summoning: Uncover the astral power that will enable Noctis to call larger-than-life vengeance down from the heavens.
  • Engaging Quests: Adventures great and small await in Duscae.
  • English and Japanese Voice-Over: Enjoy English or Japanese audio with English, French, German, Italian, Japanese or Spanish text.
The Buddies
Sun and Hazmer note that while we’ve seen Noctis’ buddies in previous media, we’ve never been properly introduced to them. So the pair took to outlining the group.
  • Gladiolus Amicitia - He’s the eldest of the group, as well as the strongest and bravest. He’s been well trained since he was young, and always fights at the front of the battle, but is always laid back and relaxed. He cares a lot about his friends, so tends to shout advice and is kind of bossy. He has the highest HP of the group.
  • Ignis Scientia - He has known Noctis since he was a child an wants to be his counsel, so he has been studying a lot and knows a lot of things. He also likes to cook. In battles, he stays by Noctis’ side and always tries to protect him. He has the Cure technique in Episode Duscae, and is equipped with a weapon allowing him to use the poison-inducing “Venom Strike.”
  • Prompto Argentum - He is Noctis’ classmate. Unlike the other two, he has never trained how to fight, so he’s always anxious in battle and always runs around trying to be useful and show off. Sometime he’ll miss himself, but he never gives up and that’s his good point. In Episode Duscae, he has a special bind technique that puts the enemy in a weak status.
“You (the player) are the fifth buddy,” the designers explained. You can’t go on a road trip and not be friends with the people who are there with you. The pair noted that buddies need to be functional, believable, comfortable, and emotional.
Buddy Navigation System
Some of the staff working on Final Fantasy XV went on a road trip, and during the trip, someone was always making a request and side-tracking the overall destination. So the goal of the roadtrip is always changing, and that’s been incorporated into the game. If you’re walking around and a buddy notices something, they’ll run off to it and call you over, for example. Sometimes this is served as a hint to clear a quest, or as a hint to start a new quest. But because these are “requests,” you can refuse, if that’s what choose want to do.
Relaxation and the Wiz Chocobo Outpost
“Relaxation ins a JRPG is about the towns,” Hazmer says. “We must make a memorable checkpoint for the towns.”
When you visit a new town, it has to have its own culture, the designer outlined on a slide. But at the same time, it has to be rooted culture. And you must be able to relax and get help, if needed.
In Episode Duscae, there are two outposts. One is the previously revealed gas station. The other is the “Wiz Chocobo Post,” which is was revealed for the first time today, as well as Yoko Shimomura’s new song for the area.

A man named Wiz owns the post. He is a very passionate chocobo rider, so he created the outpost, as well as chocobo merchandise sold at the post, like greens-flavored potato chips. It’s not a chocobo farm, but a place for chocobo riders to relax. In the final game, you’ll be able to ride chocobos, as well as rent them from this place. But in Episode Duscae, that functionality is, of course, limited.
There is also a caravan at the post, which you can choose to sleep in if you’d rather not camp. The negatives of this are that Ignis won’t be able to cook in the caravan. But the positive is that the caravan offers an experience multiplier, but it costs money.

Square Enix released new screenshots of the demo featuring the different enemies Noctis and his party will encounter, the shop system, and the expansive Duscae region. View the batch at the gallery.

So do retailers put the download code for 15 on the receipt the day you pre-order or will it be in the box the day of release?

I don't guess we can know until the day one, but since most Day One editions have been in the box, Type-0 probably will be, too.

So, this is a long shot I know, but if there's anyone here that happens to get Type-0 for Xbone and either has no interest in or simply doesn't want their code for the FFXV demo, I'll take it. I figure this applies to no one since I think everyone getting this is pretty much getting it for the demo, or for PS4, but if you're out there.

Fighting, Making Money, And Exploring In Final Fantasy XV: Episode Duscae. March 9, 2015 . 2:15am
A ton of new footage from Final Fantasy XV: Episode Duscae.

Quote:
Fans have just a little longer to wait until they can get their hands on the Final Fantasy XV: Episode Duscae demo, which releases alongside Final Fantasy Type-0 HD next week. In the meantime, Famitsu and Dengeki have provided a look at some of their playthrough of the demo.

The footage starts out with Ignis saying that they still got a while to go until they get the amount of money they need to fix the Royal Car. Gladiolus suggests that they could go hunting after the rumored Behemoth in the area. Prompto adds that the Behemoth horn actually fetches a nice sum of money, but wonders if they’d be able to take it out on their own. However, Noctis says if they don’t do anything, they won’t be able to get the car back.

Gladiolus wonders if the repairs are going fine, but Prompto seems to trust Cidney and says that it’s okay, since she did give them her word and all.

Next, they show a little more action, as Noctis and friends fight small enemies. As it turns out, they end up going against one that’s tougher than the others, so they decide to make a run for it, but it doesn’t take long for them to find footprints of a Smoke Eye (Behemoth).

At 2:13, we get a look at how the group advances through the objective, as the map shows where they have to go next. While they were about to go find themselves a nice Behemoth to hunt down, they get ambushed by the imperial soldiers, and Famitsu says they’re pretty tough. The video then demonstrates the game’s parry system at the 3:47 mark, where Noctis avoids getting stomped, and follows up with a counter hit. You can see a little more party action in the next scene, where the group is shown fighting a pack of wild beasts.

After the fight, the party comes across a strange sign, which marks the start of a sub-quest, followed by another that will have them encounter a wild Chocobo. At 6:00, they decide to take a break at a camp site, so they can grab a meal and call it night to get some experience points. We get a look at the Phantom Sword menu, and another camp site at a trailer.

At 7:23, the party finds itself back at the gas station, where Noctis and co. meet up with Cidney. She tells them that repairs are almost done, but Noctis asks if she could wait a little longer for the payment… so they decide to go check out some more Chocobos and do some Duscae Region sightseeing, instead.

Prompto points something to check out at around 9:08, and as it turns out, they found themselves a Phantom Sword, which you can activate when Noctis’ MP is full. They then decide to give it a whirl against the Smoke Eye Behemoth.

While they do their best to fight off the giant beast, even with the Phantom Sword, it proves to be a little too difficult for their current level and skill set, so they decide to go train a little more by fighting a bunch of Goblins in a cave. These guys come in huge numbers, and they’re tougher than they appear, but it looks like a good way to gain experience points for the next big fight.

The above is a look at Dengeki’s playthrough of the Episode Duscae demo. While we already got a look at some key areas and story bits from the previous video, Dengeki’s footage shows a little more exploration. They try going to the Chocobo Post to get a ride, but the shopkeeper says that they’re currently not ready for the time being.

Next up, they show a look at Noctis using all kinds of different moves with various weapons, along with some co-op moves between him and the other party members, followed by more cave exploration and Goblin smiting.

Final Fantasy XV is in development for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The Episode Duscae demo will be available along with Final Fantasy Type-0 HD, which releases on March 17th in North America and March 20th in Europe.

Final Fantasy XV: Episode Duscae Will Let You Summon Ramuh. March 12, 2015 . 5:25pm
Taking on the giant Behemoth might be tough for Noctis and his party in the upcoming demo, Final Fantasy XV: Episode Duscae, but what if you could summon Ramuh in the fight?

Taking on the giant Behemoth might be tough for Noctis and his party in the upcoming demo, Final Fantasy XV: Episode Duscae, but what if you could summon Ramuh in the fight? It looks like you might be able to do just that, according to this week’s issue of Jump magazine. [Thanks, @Kazu4281.]

The magazine reports that various Summoned Beasts from the series will appear in Final Fantasy XV, including Ramuh, whom you can summon upon meeting certain conditions.

However, Jump also mentions that summoning will be a little different in battle than what we’re used to seeing in past tiles.

Final Fantasy XV is in development for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Coleman-branded tents, tables, chairs, and tableware.
Square Enix is collaborating with Coleman Company, a company that specializes in outdoor recreation products, for Final Fantasy XV.

Camping is a key element in the upcoming Final Fantasy. When camping, you’ll be able to talk with your party members, cook meals to gain status buffs, and tally up acquired experience points to level up your characters.
All of the tents, tables, chairs, and tableware will be Coleman-branded. According to Square Enix, this will is an important part of the game’s “fantasy based on reality” theme.

Yeah, I saw that earlier. Someone actually posted pics from the Coleman 2015 catalog and found everything in their campsite.

A look at the Final Fantasy XV demo’s summon

Episode Duscae has but one creature you can summon.

The Final Fantasy XV demo included with early copies of Final Fantasy Type-0 HD has just one summon players can call upon. And YouTube user “Arekkz” has recorded a gameplay video showing what the summon can do.
Warning: Spoilers below.

Said summon is first appeared in Final Fantasy III. In Final Fantasy XV, this old wizard is gigantic, and his lightning storm comes in great use when battling against the Behemoth.
See the summon in action below.

Warning: Potential spoilers below.

The movie shares more insight into what’s happening in the world of Final Fantasy XV, and appears to suggest Final Fantasy Versus XIII‘s Stella Nox Fleuret is, in fact, the Luna mentioned in the game’s more recent trailers. Or at least related to her, as the video shows her full name to be Lunafreya Nox Fleuret.
