Just think where the Marvel universe would be had the first Iron Man failed.

Nowhere.

Same place where the Green Lantenr franchise is now. Green Lantern is what Iron Man would have been if it failed, dead !

Man of Steel was WB/DC finally setting an original tone for their universe.

Green Lantern did a lot of damage. Not just to the GL franchise but to other second tier DC comic heroes.

And the funny thing is it was WBs fault, they didn't hire a film maker with a vision, they hired someone they could treat as a puppet.

When i first heard that Martin Campbell would direct GL i was pretty happy cause i know he is a very good director but he is just that. In comic book movies being good is not enough you also have to be passionate. Passion for comics equals a vision. The only people who don't really care about comics but managed to deliver something awesome was Nolan and Brannagh because they were capable of viewing the source material as something they are passionate about : Nolan dramas and mysteries and Brannagh a Shakespearian Brother vs Brother drama.

Look at Kevin Smith, he is not a good director by the standard definition (chasing amy reference) but he is passionate that's why his Green Hornet is awesome and if it became a film, at least to me would be revolutionary.

It doesn't matter how good of director you are, Campbell was the wrong director. He has absolutely no idea how to direct a sci-fi comic book space epic with copious amounts of CGI. His talent lies in old school stuntwork and action sequences. He was the wrong man. He had the wrong talent.

For every unknown filmmaker they've hired (Russo Bros., Alan Tylor and perhaps Favs for IM1), they've hired known filmmakers like Branah, Johnston, Shane Black, Joss Whedon and Edgar Wright (for Antman).

His implication was that Tarantino sucked, obviously.

None of them made a 150M+ movie. Probably only guys like Nolan, Cameron and Spielberg can decide what and how they wanna make them. However it's easier to work with somebody like Favreau than Proyas.

I think they gave full control to Whedon for the Avengers and judging by his choices regarding Avengers 2 he has full control of that film also.

Neither did Scorsese before the Departed and Tarantino before Inglourious Basterds and yet they were household names well before that. For directors, its about how prolific and influential your work is more than cold numbers. I doubt the average Joes know more about Gore Verbinsky than they do the aforementioned, even though Gore has directed all four Pirates movies.

As much as I agree with, this one can't ignore that script. They just can't.
This series has really shinned when it played off the "training day in space" sort of angle, when it played up the academy stuff...etc.

We got a film about a hotwheels track and punching an evil cloud into the sun? All the while big head pines over the love interest and does creepy stuff.... Sorry but no one could have directed that shooting script into a success. That film needed the writers of Fringe(evidently enough that is Orci and the other one, who did star trek and now spiderman).

Campbell and even Reynolds(can't believe I'm defending him) get too much blame for that film.

Gore directed 3 of them.

-Kansas being wiped off the map(Due in major part to superman's self exile)
-Superman throwing heroes and villains in a Gulag without due process(Batman doesn't approve)
-Thousands of heroes being wiped out by an atomic bomb(again superman cased this and also let it happen).
-Superman mad again deciding to kill world leaders.
-Mad superman having to be talked out of his kill rage by a divine and supernatural element/presence.

Lives lost/destruction and superman killing eh.
Sorry waid but the minute you made a penny off that story, you were destined to look fickle in this moment.
imo.

Yep.

It's also pretty shocking how many people have already seen the film. That's quite an early release.

Yeah. That book never clicked for me. It is interesting though how often Lois dying causes Superman to just reject everything he stands for. I mean we had it in that. Plus in the S:TAS episode where Lois enters an alternative timeline where she's died and it's an Orwellian society and Superman is a dictator because of this... Plus recently in that Injustice I believe.

It is interesting to me. I try to think whether that would be all it takes for Superman to snap. I don't think so though...

I know if Goyer/Snyder did it, probably wouldn't be as well received as all of the above(injustice as well lol).

Does seem odd yes, but I think that is the character difference between batman(the real batman no nolan's creature) and Superman as far as characterization. There is no Snapping in Wayne.

Morrison lost the right to complain about any violence in comics after what he did to Damian. Waid lost my respect when he insinuated that people who liked the ending were bloodthirsty.

I guess i'm a minority...because I don't like Frank Miller's Batman. Jeph Loeb in my opinion really captured the character the best.

As much as I like Waid's writing, I find him to be a bit abrasive when it comes to his opinions.
