Richard O'Brien, who created a show starring a transvestite?

Who has been quoted as saying "there's a lot of man in me....and a lot of girl as well", and has referred to himself as "70% man", doesn't believe transgender is a thing?

Because like Silvermoth above said. Laverne Cox is far more inspiring, far more intelligent when speaking, and just in general more appealing in almost all ways.

I can understand being a member of our community and being conservative. More power to you, but Caitlyn just isn't very well versed in getting her views on things out there.
the funny thing is people some how assumed or thought changing your outside suddenly changes ones insides too.. and it just doesn't work that way...

Bruce Jenner was a Jaded, Naive individual... who'd been a celebrity for 40 years...

getting breasts and becoming a woman suddenly negate any of that... Caitlyn is still a Jaded, Naive individual who's been a celebrity for 40 years...

I feel like she knows very little of what she speaks of, and while yes.. she does have the most potential probably out of any celeb to do good (because she was bruce) she is still very out of touch.. and assumes her political party is going to be completely ok with everything she is and does.. and that's not the case..

she will either keep her political views.. or like a normal human being... change when she realizes she's wrong. but it's not something that happens over night... Caitlyn proves time and time again, over and over again, that she's a fledgling to the LGBT community.. and is still very much learning how to walk... and she's going to fall along the way..

While i do believe her political views are to be criticized, i also feel people expected way too much out of her...

Janet mock too. These women have been fighting the good fight for years so I don't know why we rely on Caitlin's thoughts so much.
"the movement" isn't really a thing... it's not like a presidential campaign where someone sits there and goes "OH! I know let's make Caitlyn the poster girl for Trans issues!" Bruce Jenner was a major major public figure.. and a hero to many of his olympic era... him being trans and becoming Cait and the media circus surrounding it is what propelled him forward far more thatn Laverne... and anyone else.

Cait is gifted and privelaged with the history of Bruce.. which is why she's in the public eye more...

if Laverne Cox was a male celebrity before hand.. she would have been elevated to Cait's level.

keep in mind most trans celeb the public met after they had already become the opposite gender.

this is why Chaz Bono and Caitlyn Jenner were elevated higher than the rest.. the public eye met them as their birth gender... and got to witness them change.. it has a larger effect on the public i think.

Yep
Quote:
Rocky Horror star Richard O’Brien: Trans women can’t be women

Rocky Horror creator Richard O’Brien has caused controversy by speaking out against transgender women.
The veteran actor is best known as the presenter of gameshow The Crystal Maze, and for creating The Rocky Horror Picture Show – as well as originating the role of Riff-Raff.
The 73-year-old has previously spoken about his own fluid gender identity, labelling himself the “third sex” and explaining: “I believe myself probably to be about 70% male, 30% female”, adding he “ticks the ‘M’ box” for gender but “would quite like to have Other to tick.”

However, speaking to the Metro this week, O’Brien weighed in on controversy surrounding feminist author Germaine Greer’s anti-trans comments.
Greer claimed last year: “Just because you lop off your d**k and then wear a dress doesn’t make you a f***ing woman.”
Speaking to the Metro, O’Brien weighed in on “feminists [who] say that because someone has surgery that doesn’t make them a woman”
He added: “I think I agree with that. I agree with Germaine Greer and Barry Humphries. You can’t be a woman. You can be an idea of a woman.
“You’re in the middle and there’s nothing wrong with that. I certainly wouldn’t have the wedding tackle taken off.
“That is a huge jump and I have all the sympathy in the world for anyone who does it but you aren’t a woman.”
He adds: “I think of myself as Richard. I think of myself as a third sex and it makes things easier. I’m somewhere in the middle. My wife and children love me and celebrate me for who I am.
“I wish we would see ourselves as members of a sentient race of beings and be nice to each other as human beings as opposed to male or female.”

Greer said previously: “I’ve asked my doctor to give me long ears and liver spots and I’m going to wear a brown coat but that doesn’t turn me into a f***ing cocker spaniel.
“A man who gets his d**k chopped off is actually inflicting an extraordinary act of violence on himself.”
Dame Edna star Barry Humphries also claimed in an interview that gender surgery is “mutilation”.
He said: “I agree with Germaine! You’re a mutilated man, that’s all. Self-mutilation, what’s all this carry on? Caitlyn Jenner – what a publicity-seeking ratbag.
“It’s all given the stamp – not of respectability, but authenticity or something. If you criticise anything you’re racist or sexist or homophobic.”

That's a shame, especially for someone with his resume. I hate it when seemingly talented people become problematic

I suppose so. That's a good point. It's a shame laverne wasn't given more recognition though because I struggle to think of a better role model than her

it's a bit of a gift and a curse. I think someone transforming through the public eye really lets the public sort of "transition" with them. I think the public responds better towards it, and are more receptive? because they feel like on some level they are going through it with them and their family. I think it helps with the understanding. Where as prior to Chaz and Cait it was sort of this "thing" they didn't understand.. and humans typically fear and ridicule what they don't understand. So while i think people who are completely liberal in mindset love laverne.. the conservatives don't know who she is.. didn't understand really what she is.. and also didn't care... they just see a man dressed as a woman.

in a really weird twisted way... Cait is still very much helping the trans community..

A) she's not shunning them, she's just not agreeing with their political beliefs

B) she did open minds and actually help people understand the whole process and what it means to be trans and

C) as ugly as it is.. she's not further causing a rift between conservative republicans by agreeing with them politically... She may not agree with most LGBT people on politics... but sometimes "it takes one to know one" and she may eventually change some hearts and minds in the conservative republican circus.... even if just a few.

she does all of this while still very much bringing attention trans-issues... and support. But because she doesn't believe in the same political views as most LGBT she's being shunned.

I do not agree with her political views what so ever... but I also don't necessarily believe she should be getting the bile and hate thrown at her either.... what could likely happen is the LGBT community shuns her... and she completely turns her back on them... and feel she was proven right about her past thoughts and views.

Okay, don't hate me for what I'm about to write, but now that I read what O'Brien wrote, it doesn't look as bad as what it first sounded.
It's not that he's bashing trans women, I think he's just trying to explain that in his mind he sees a difference between a trans woman and one who was born with a body that matched their gender identity.
He's wrong in what he said of course, because he's not thinking that due to his status what he says has repercussions that would probably not exist if he were an unknown.
But I understand the struggle of trying to come to grips with the concept and understanding it.
I understand it because I struggled with it myself.
Despite my earlier confusion about my own sexuality, I've always identified myself as decidedly male. So for me, the idea that in someone else's head that's not as clearly defined... is just an alien concept, and it took me a while and some reflection to put myself in their shoes.
Yes, this guy is 70 plus, he should have had all the reflection he needs to be clear on everything. But hey, by that same token you can also make the argument he's also the product of an earlier time when folks weren't as enlightened and everything had to be to be more subdued.
