The Walking Dead has 7 more weeks then Mad Men will air for 12 so it won't be showing up early. Mad Men ends on June 23.

Vince Gilligan talks about every episode of Season 4. Fantastic read. As a writer, the part that stood out most to me is:

"We’re always trying to keep everybody as smart as possible. What we don’t want to ever have happen is the story moving forward just because of a big dopey lapse on one character’s part. If we’re going to have a character make a mistake, like Walt being prideful to Hank and thus making a tactical error, we want those moments to stem from fundamental character flaws that we’ve already established"

And this is why Breaking Bad is the best show on television.

Another great quote:

"Too much or too little ambiguity, like most things, is in the eye of the beholder. It’s the old thing about pornography: “I don’t know how to define it, but I know it when I see it.” We just do a gut check, my writers and myself. And sometimes, it certainly goes without saying, it depends on the viewer. I’m sure very often we leave them with too much ambiguity. We seldom leave anyone with not enough ambiguity. But mystery is a good spice for our stew, as it were, and we do our best to spice it just right, and not over-salt. And we always talk in the writers’ room about “mysterious versus confusing.” Mystery is good; confusion is bad. Sometimes, if you squint, they can seem like one and the same, but they’re really not at all. Confusion usually derives from a lack of internal logic. It derives from characters who suddenly stop behaving in recognizable ways. And mystery is just a lack of illumination. So we think a lot about mystery versus confusion, and we always strive for the former, not the latter."

I started watching Breaking Bad shortly after Christmas because I got Netflix. I just finished Season 4 last weekend, and I'm probably going to buy the first half of Season 5 from Amazon instant stream. I don't know how I'm going to survive the wait until July.

Also, that article is such an awesome find, Brain Damage. I want to hug you right now.

I like hugs.

Do your self a favor and get the first half of Season 5 now and avoid all Breaking Bad related discussion boards like the plague until you've finished. Believe me when I say, you REALLY don't want anything spoiled.

Sounds like Damon Lindelof could benefit from working with Gilligan.

Do you just like patrol threads making sure you swoop in with a eyeroll whenever someone dares criticize Lindelof?

So I went back and started watching the entire series again with my brother who has only seen the first half of season 5. Right now we're about finish season 3 and I just love sitting back and see his reaction to major plot points for the first time.

Also at the same time I'm rewatching the first half of season 5 on my phone and it still holds up even more so than my first viewing.

Two things.

1. I'm really excited that Betsy Brandt replied to me.
2. Now we know that Vince is getting his wish to direct the last two episodes!

I think she's using "penultimate" incorrectly.
