Reeve was in his 40's in mid 90's (and looked older) and they still were trying to get him back for a 5th Superman. IIn fact it was widely known that he dyed his hair during his tenure as Superman to hide his gray hairs. I don't think it sailed at all. Nowhere does it say that Superman has to be played by a really young actor, that's just the studio mentality that always thinks of endless sequels.

Visually his look is still the best all time. I'm not even a fan of the old movies per say, but damn if Reeve didn't look perfect. wow

Grey hair would never have mattered, he always died his hair as Superman because he was blonde in real life, and wore a wig in certain times because he suffered from alopecia.

Movie wise, I like the tone of MOS. But, when it comes to strict visual of the actor I think Reeve still edges Cavill out a bit.
