I am not a DC guy but when I do pick a book it is mostly Batman stuff. As I have alot of comics in my stake I decided to get the trade of Snyder's Batman and man oh man was it good ... only problem the next volume isn't out until April.
Can anyone explain why DC are getting the trades out so slowly, as someone who could be a fun long term its kind of off putting having to wait so long to get the next chapter of the story.

That's just the way it is. First are the singles (and digital releases) on Wednesdays, then once a story wraps it eventually comes out in hardcover. After that, the trade. If you're really looking to follow a story as it happens, floppies and digital are your only two options.

I have no room any more for issues after 12years of collecting so I am now trying to stick to trades as they are easier to store long term.

According to Amazon its not till March 23, which is pretty much a joke ... 10 months after the first was released they get around to volume 2!

DC are no longer "writing for the trade", as part of the New 52 initiative, they want people to buy the issues. If you want to read Court of Owls, (though I don't see why you would) buy the issues. Simple as.

Trades are much easier to pick up and read and lot at once and in the long run better to keep. I'm sorry I can't fit into whatever landscape DC want with the New 52, as I have lots to read and can't risk picking up stuff I will not like.

No it's not horrible. Not even a little bit. DC Comics focuses more on comics, rather than graphic novels. If you want a story, just buy it. Otherwise, wait or buy the Earth One series.

I don't really care for digital comics, I like the real thing, sure if they give me a free code to get a copy of my issues incase I sell them thats great. Yes DC might wait until something is out of print, yet Marvel (who I've stuck with for 12 years) had the AVX hardback out pretty much the month after it all finished. That's much better than waiting a year for another book with just 6 issues to read when 20+ have come out. All I'm saying is I WANT to get into DC's New 52 but there not making it easy, for someone who wants to just get a trade of something that got great reviews after a few stories.

Dude, trade paperpacks are the same thickness and size of issues stacked on top of each other. No space is being saved. It's literally the same thing.

Maybe so but having a book, with a spine, indicating what it is, is much better to shelve and look at. At this point in collecting I'd much rather have books than single issues.

Well then it's a personal preference, one that DC doesn't feel the need to cater to immediately, as sales for HC's/TPB's are never great anyway.

In my opinion, DC writers need to come together and collaborate. Too many alternate universes for Batman

What? There are only three universes: New 52, Earth-2 (where he is dead) and Earth One.

Snyder's Batman is the only modern take on the character that I can tolerate, so far.
It's not 100% perfect, but it's more than engaging, well done, and enjoyable enough to hook me even so. It's one of the better iterations I've sat down and read, and I've read many. I've also stopped buying the individual issues in favor of having a nice, healthy, sturdy hardback sitting on my shelf with the title on the spine, so I'm anxious for March/April.

Another reason for the extended releases is that they seem to follow the natural story arcs...the second TPB will have issues 7-12 in it, probably (12 was a one-shot so maybe it will be stuck in the third one, dunno). Normally they used to just release these books in 4 issue blocks, right? Even if it didn't make sense story-wise? Now they seem to be trying to make them follow the story arcs. The first TPB was six issues which is odd (not that they didn't charge more for it to make up for it...). The third TPB will also be five issues, if I'm figuring it out correctly (Death of the Family has two more issues to go, right?)
