This is probably the first FF game I'll play because of the combat system. I was never good at Tue old one. But I definitely don't like the way the characters are designed. They look like some sort of boy band. Characters in precious games had nicer designs to them. All things considered I'd rather be parading around in Gabranth armor.

Final Fantasy XV debuts new details and footage at Paris Games Week
Published 9 hours ago. 74 comments.

Plus, Final Fantasy Agito+ delayed in Japan.

Square Enix shared new details and footage on Final Fantasy XV during its “Active Time Report” live stream at Paris Games Week this morning.
Art director Yusuke Naora and world map director Yasuyuki Matsunami appeared to demo part of the game’s Duscae region—the setting for the demo included with Final Fantasy Type-0.
The footage shown is a special version of the demo with all of the enemy and event flags cleared to show off the field.
At one point in the demo, Noctis and friends drive by a gas station (which might look similar to the gas station Noctis passes in the 2011 Final Fantasy Versus XIII trailer). Here, players can eat and compile information.
The map is immense. The demo map alone takes about an hour to walk across on foot. And the Duscae region in the demo isn’t the region in its entirety—it’s bigger in the full version. Said full version is only about a tenth of the entire map. Players can walk anywhere they see. Depending on the terrain, characters’ walking animations will change. If you run long distances, you’ll see characters tire and catch their breath. At lakes or rivers, you will be able to fish. And in the woods, you’ll find sheds where NPCs live that can be entered.
Various creatures roam the field, all of which you can fight. The smaller ones are easier to aggravate, but the bigger ones have aggro radius, meaning you can approach them within reason without them immediately attacking you.
Different monsters appear during different times of the day. At night, monsters like Nagas and Goblins show up on the field. Matsunami suggests going somewhere safe like a gas station at night where players can rest. Chocobos also appeared in the demo, but not as being ridden.
Sometimes, characters will start talking in response to changing conditions. For example, when the sun rises.
Towards the end of the demo, we see airships hover over Noctis and friends. Sometimes, these airships will land and fight you. Matsunami said that Magitek Armor will also appear in the game.
Lead programmer Takeshi Aramaki and movie director Takeshi Nozue also appeared to debut a new trailer showcasing how the game’ terrain, characters, and such are made. According to Aramaki, the game’s transfer from its previous Ebony Engine to its current Luminous Engine is 80 percent complete. Objects and terrain are destructible, and Aramaki notes that the engine has surpassed even Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. As for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the game is being developed on a high-end PC and will be optimized for each console. More tech reels like this are planned for later reports.
During a Q&A session, several new details were shared. Mainly:
  • Players can still execute combos whether you hold the buton down or repeatedly press it. Both have their plusses and minues (for example: repeatedly pressing makes it easier to insert parries).
  • Things such as Magic Points (MP) will be properly presented on screen. It just didn’t appear at the Tokyo Game Show because of timing issues with when it was decided to show off the battle system.
  • The story should take around 40 hours to complete, excluding other content.
  • The downloadable version of Final Fantasy Type-0 HD will also come with the Final Fantasy XV demo.
  • Another live report should be expected at Jump Festa in December.
Outside of Final Fantasy XV, the report also reveals a delay for PS Vita’s Final Fantasy Agito+. The game was pushed from its January 15 Japanese release date to an not-yet-fixed date, technical problems being the reason. Also, on the smartphone Agito front, after the Season Two update, nationwide player-versus-player is being added in January.
Watch the full report below, complete with the new footage.

Final Fantasy XV Tech Demo Shows Off The Luminous Engine. October 31, 2014 . 9:02am

In the tech demo, Square Enix basically took parts of the trailer that was shown at Tokyo Game Show last month, and gave it a different look, showing the technical aspects behind it.

Quote:

Europe got to see a first look at the latest gameplay footage from Final Fantasy XV during the Paris Game Festival in France. During the event, director Hajime Tabata also showed a new tech demo for the game. [Thanks, Mika IIM]

In the video, Tabata started out by saying that he heard about how fans want to hear the latest about the Luminous Engine, so he felt that this would be a good occasion to have everyone catch up on how it’s been doing with a little tech demo.

In the tech demo, Square Enix basically took parts of the trailer that was shown at Tokyo Game Show last month, and gave it a different look, showing the technical aspects behind it, starting with a look at the royal car.

Next, they show a look at a night and day contrast to show its lighting in various times throughout the day, in addition to some atmospheric demonstrations showing the skies and the inside of a cave.

The next part shows a close-up of Noctis’ skin textures, along with various facial expressions. They also show a look at how they do hair models, along with how they work on the vast terrain and surrounding. They finish it off with some visual effects, animations, and artificial intelligence.

During the event, Tabata also shared that the Luminous Engine 1.4 is currently a fusion of the Luminous and Ebony engines. The demo, which release in March 2015, will have its 1.5 version, and the finished version is expected to run on the 2.0 version of the Luminous Engine.

Additionally, there was also some more footage, featuring Noctis and his friends walking around in the fields. Some of the monsters that appear at night will have all kinds of extra dangerous status effects, so you’ll need to be careful while traveling around at night.

Next, at 1:10, you see Noctis walk by a small lake. While he didn’t demonstrate it during the vent, Tabata said that you can also do some fishing in those areas. From the 1:58 mark of the video, the director explains that what you’re seeing will be part of the demo.

There’s quite the distance, but you’ll get to travel by foot or car. There will be plenty of monsters and events in the area for the demo, so players will be able to get the first taste of Final Fantasy XV.

Square Enix Talk About How Vast Final Fantasy XV Will Be. October 31, 2014 . 11:00am

Square Enix got some developers to go mountain-climbing to get a better understanding of what it’s like to actually be on a mountain at higher elevations.

Quote:

The latest livestream of Square Enix Presents Japan, titled “Tabata Director’s Active Time Report,” follows up with details on the Final Fantasy XV footage that was showcased at the Paris Game Festival.

The stream for the game was split into three parts, with the first part is titled “the map is very wide, so you’d better be ready”. Square start out by talking about the upcoming demo, and according to the developers, there is just so much to explore that it can get pretty tiring, especially while walking. Going around in a vehicle makes things much easier, however.

The footage begins at the 33:24 mark of the video.

You can actually stop by the gas station shown in the footage, which will be a spot where you can rest and dine with Noctis and his buddies. As they drive around, they show other vehicles passing around, which will be a normal occurrence in the game. When Noctis is looking down on the fields, those are all places that you can explore, just to give you an idea of how vast the world is.The big dinosaur-like monster will aggro if you get close enough, and it is said to be very strong.

As an interesting aside, the monster is about 20 meters tall, and the developers were told to make it into something as big as a Brachiosaurus. When walking around in the forests, you’ll all kinds of buildings, some that you can enter and some that you can’t. There are also various animals like cats, dogs, birds, and more.

The 37:50 mark shows a little mountain climbing, and as it turns out, Square Enix got some developers to go mountain-climbing to get a better understanding of what it’s like to actually be on a mountain at higher elevations.

Next, they show all kinds of monsters that appear at night. Since these are extra dangerous and scary, it’s recommended to hide in buildings like the gas station that was shown earlier in the video.

When the sun rises, Prompto is heard saying, “Ahh, sunlight!” That’s just a little example of the party members speaking out loud. They’ll speak out in various occasions, not just during events.

At around 40:10, you can also see some Chocobo grazing in the fields. Once they get to the lake, they ask again about whether you’ll get to fish, as mentioned during the Paris Game Festival, and Square Enix reiterated that it will indeed be possible. They finally get back on the road where the demo began, to end the trailer.

The second part of the Final Fantasy XV stream is called “Tech Demo, Again” which gives us a closer look at the demo that was shown at the Paris Game Festival. The demo shows us various technical aspects that are currently in the works using its Luminous Engine 1.4, which you can read about in our earlier report.

Finally, the last corner of the stream is a short Q&A sessions called “if there’s a lot you’re wondering about, why don’t you ask Tabata?” While the director in currently in France, he answered a few questions from fans, regardless.

The first question asked what happens if you mash the button instead of holding it down. Tabata previously explained that holding down the attack button would make Noctis do a series of attacks, but multiple presses would also result in doing a basic combo. As long as you can get the timing down, it shouldn’t be a problem.

The next question asked whether Final Fantasy Type-0 HD’s digital version will also include the demo for Final Fantasy XV, to which Tabata simply responded with “but of course”.

One fan had a question about the game’s UI, and asked where can you see the MP. According to Tabata, when they showed the footage at Tokyo Game Show, they didn’t have time to implement it, but the final version will include it, along with other commands.

The following fan said that 40 hours for total gameplay sounds concerning, as it seems a little bit short. Square Enix answered by saying that the 40 hours is actually for the story, and is how long it will take if you skip everything else (like dungeons), so the average player will likely spend much longer than that.

They also mentioned that there will be a vast amount of content, so there won’t be much to worry about as far as that is concerned.

Square Enix concluded the event by saying that the next batch of information for on Final Fantasy XV will be revealed live during the Jump Festa later this year. Even though the “Tabata D’s Active Time Report” didn’t feature the director himself, he will definitely be there for the next time.

Square Enix Have An Idea For A Final Fantasy XV Release Window. November 8, 2014 . 11:25pm
“We have a general idea of what year and period [of the year] we’re targeting for its release,” says Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata.

Quote:

Final Fantasy XV producer Hajime Tabata recently shared the latest on the game during the Paris Game Festival. During an interview with French video game website, Gamekult, he shared a little more on Final Fantasy XV’s current development status.

VIDEO-CLick to Watch!: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x29...ata_videogames

During the interview, Tabata started out with some of the latest on Final Fantasy Type-0, which you can also read about in our earlier report. The Final Fantasy XV bit starts at the 6:30 mark.

According to Tabata, the development staff have been in high spirits since revealing the latest information for Final Fantasy XV during Tokyo Game Show 2014 and from the warm reception it got from fans.

As far as the game’s development goes, the director commented that it’s going extremely smoothly. However, Square Enix are about to enter the stage of producing the master-build for the game, and Tabata said that their current number of staff members is lacking for this stage, so they’ve been actively recruiting for their Tokyo office.

Next, Tabata revealed that while Final Fantasy XV is still in the midst of development, they already have an idea for an estimated release window for the game.

“We have a general idea of what year and period [of the year] we’re targeting for its release,” said Tabata about Final Fantasy XV. “And we’re at a stage where we’re putting everything we toward [the release window].” “However, Tabata added, “I believe that it might take just a little bit longer than you’d hope for.”

Final Fantasy XV is in development for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Longer? Goddamn, at this point I am almost anticipating the behind the scenes talk that'll come out after the game's release as much as the game. There most be a big story here for this project to take so long, something isn't right.

Final Fantasy XV’s Action Will Feel More Realistic Than Kingdom Hearts But Still Speedy. November 11, 2014 . 10:32am

Final Fantasy XV has inherited things from the Kingdom Hearts series, ever since game was still known as Final Fantasy Versus XIII.

Quote:

We recently heard the latest on Final Fantasy XV’s development from producer Hajime Tabta during the Paris Games Festival, and he shared more in an interview with Finaland, where he talked a little more about the game’s battles and the car Noctis and Co. will ride around in.

As far as the action goes, Tabata explains that Final Fantasy XV has inherited things from the Kingdom Hearts series, ever since game was still known as Final Fantasy Versus XIII. The big difference between tje two games is that Square are trying to bring a more realistic quality to Final Fantasy XV, based on actions anyone could accomplish.

The goal is to maintain a strong link to reality by having a certain realistic weight or feel during fights. This goal has been reached by modifying and improving the system from Kingdom Hearts. That said, Tabata assures that Final Fantasy XV will still be a speedy game, despite this focus on realism.

When asked whether players get to customize the car in the game, Tabata said that we will indeed get to do so. He also added that while it won’t play an important role in the story, he considers the car to be the fifth companion of Noctis and his friends.

Finally, when asked about an airship, Tabata replies that this is something that will be revealed later in the story, so he can’t provide an answer for the time being.

Final Fantasy XV is in development for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Delays don't really affect my anticipation of titles. If I'm looking forward to something, it doesn't matter if it's gets delayed or not; I'm still looking forward to it. But there's obviously a story behind this. Switching to new gen consoles is one thing, but with the incredible length of development, and now the switching of directors, there's some story behind this game, I'm sure.

honestly, what kind of dampened my interest more than the delay was when they announced the playable party will be all male and that the story would essentially be like a cross country "bro trip."

of course, I'm sure the story will be more than that, and the characters could very well be interesting and engaging. but, from what I've seen so far, I just don't find myself interested in the overall premise.

and yeah, the behind the scenes story is interesting ( and may even be more interesting than the game...lol ).

Final Fantasy XV demo might only be available for a limited time

Tabata confirms demo downloadable, not on-disc.

The Final Fantasy XV demo included with Final Fantasy Type-0 HD will be downloadable and might only be available for a limited time, director Hajime Tabata said during a Square Enix Presents interview last night.
“For the users who have been waiting, we really wanted to provide a version of the game that could be played as soon as possible, so we thought up this sort of gift,” Tabata said about the demo.
“But rather than make it available forever, we’re thinking of a cut-off period. It wouldn’t be a very long period, in order to make its existence feel a little more special.”
It should be noted that, for now, this is something still under consideration at Square Enix rather than a definite decision.
While the demo’s contents have yet to be detailed, it will run players one hour at minimum, two hours at normal play, or three to four hours if you really play into it.
Tabata also said that they’re going to be listening to fan feedback on the demo, and want to create a place where users can share their thoughts.

During a Square Enix Presents show about Final Fantasy Type-0 HD, director Hajime Tabata touched a little bit about the Final Fantasy XV demo.

The demo will be a distributed through a downloadable code and the amount of content will be at least one hour. Tabata said players will normally get two hours of gameplay and up to three or four hours if you really dive into Episode Duscae.

Final Fantasy XV: Episode Duscae will only be available for a limited time. Tabata did not specify how long players will be able to access the demo since they are still deciding on the timeframe.

Final Fantasy Type-0 HD comes out on March 17, 2015 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Square Enix plans on heavily promoting the title and will run a trailer for the game in movie theaters during the holidays.

Final Fantasy XV Might Have The Series’ First Female Cid. December 19, 2014 . 3:40am

The latest issue of Jump magazine introduces a new Final Fantasy XV character that sounds like she could be a Cid.

Quote:

Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata said himself that the theme behind Final Fantasy XV is “bromance” between Noctis, his friends, and the royal car. The latest issue of Jump magazine introduces one character that isn’t a bro, and she looks like she could be Cid. [Thanks, Game Jouhou]

As seen at the bottom-left of the scan, there’s a female character wearing a pair of goggles. While it doesn’t specifically mention her as “Cid,” it does say tht she’s a female mechanic who doesn’t mind getting dirty with oil, and it does sound quite a lot like Cid when you think of goggles plus mechanic.

Of course, she could just end up being someone entirely different.

The magazine also shows Noctis fighting a giant monster, Titan, looking like he’s about to stomp over the protagonist. We also get a look at Noctis and Co. cruising around town in their car, which is said to have some kind of secret behind it.

More details and a closer look at the images from the magazine report will likely surface soon. Meanwhile, you can check out the recent trailer that shows the game in its English language for the first time here.

That's a pretty worthless article. Hey, this character could be Cid! Although there's literally nothing that says she will be?

Final Fantasy XV teases new female character
Published 4 hours ago. 80 comments.

Quote:
Is she Cid? Is she not? Who knows!? #jointheconversation the Japanese Internet's been having the last 24 hours!

A scan from a preview of Final Fantasy XV in the newest issue of V Jump reveals a scant handful of new details about the game to pore over.
Chief among them is a new female character that’s shown off in the screenshot on the bottom-left side of the page. Other than her goggled getup and the fact that she’s described as a mechanic, her identity remains completely under wraps.
The screenshot to the right of her, meanwhile, indicates that the game’s car will seemingly be drivable in the game’s urban areas, too, not just the countryside as has been showcased up until now.
Finally, in the bottom right screenshot, a fight with a Titan whose foot alone is potentially enough to do in Noctis and company is depicted. As with the mysterious woman, the magazine provides little material to go off of that isn’t already visible on the page.
With Jump Festa kicking off in Japan tomorrow, it’s entirely possible we could learn more about these things soon, as Square Enix intends to discuss both Final Fantasy XV and Type-0 HD there during a livestream of another edition of Hajime Tabata’s Active Time Report.
Thanks, Games Talk via Elliot Gay.

Really not much to go on. Mechanic. Yellow jacket. Goggles. Woman.

"Previously I would have said FF-I and FF-VII were my favourite to play but while making Final Fantasy XV, some of the ones I’m referring to the most and the ones I’m drawing the most inspiration from and getting a lot out of are FF-III, FF-IV, FF-V and FF-VI.” -Tabata
The yellow jacket could be inspired by Final Fantasy VI Cid. Goggles from other versions of Cid.

Or it's just some random NPC and it's blown out of proportion.

I don't see why that matters to what I said. It's just such a substainless puff piece. Oh hey, there's a picture we saw, and it might be Cid, though we really don't know anything about anything: please, enjoy this article that has Final Fantasy XV in the title.

the way I see it this is more of what square was telling the makers of the article to put up cause most of the other article prior had people complaining about this game being a sausage fest.

So they just made sure this is known through these article that makers of them are just relaying . In other words square want's those saying that (sausage fest ) repeatedly to shut it. you have what you want. & Square is now teasing in their annoying way too since those people over did it with those two words cause they wanted women in the game is it or is't it her. As long as we don't lighting or seven from type zoro that looks errly like her

Still not really got anything to do with what I'm saying, but okay, I guess.

FINAL FANTASY XV: Jump Festa Trailer (North America trailer)

In Japanese, it sounds like the yellow jacket-wearing head mechanic is named Cidney?

I rather hope they didn't change Cidney to Cindy, which is what the French subtitles say.

Kotaku - Final Fantasy XV Features The First Female Cid

Quote:
Okay, technically she is a “Cidney.”

To coincide with today's Jump Festa 2015 in Chiba, Japan, Square Enix has released their latest trailer for Final Fantasy XV. In the past, some were unhappy by the lack of female playable characters in the game.

Thought not playable, franchise staple Cid returns as the main cast's mechanic. A technology-centric character, this is the first time the character has been female.

There's a larger scene where the dudes meet Cidney from the live stream of the conference up on Youtube titled Final Fantasy XV Cidney footage.

The back of her jacket says "Hammer Head : Full Service Station".
