With age comes experience.
That's nice. Unfortunately for you, the prime age for superheroics is 20-34. Ms. Marvel will almost certainly be cast in that age range. Given the character herself claimed to be 31 during Secret Invasion, I don't see the problem with a 27 year old, at all.

not really, imo. Carol has never been stoic. she was always brash, emotional, and in-your-face when she was an Avenger. and, when she was a pilot, she was a female version of Tom Cruise's character from Top Gun. Agent May's the last person i would compare her to; personality-wise.

Emily VanCamp will be older by the time they would make the movie anyways. She just needs to put on some weight & get ripped.

I think Abbie Cornish would be a great choice

The very fact that Marvel didn't start talking about any plans for this until recently is shocking. When Deadpool is over with the X-Men and Spider-Man is over at Sony, Carol Danvers should be a no brainier. Yes, the films in general are funny but somebody with Carol's personality would fit right in to the MCU. I mean, with three successful solo series, being a long-standing Avenger and also being tied to the cosmic properties, there's pretty much no excuse for Marvel Studios to drag their heels. Just imagine what the banter between her and Iron Man would be like come Avengers 3!

Whoa, so this thread's been active on the front page since August. It's not just me commenting on here. I'm guessing this means that Carol is an incredibly popular character right now.

Well, of the potential solo heroines in Marvel's stable, she does seem to be the most popular. I just wish her comic series was selling better. I love DeConnick's take on the character and I think it deserves far more readers than its getting.

I agree. DeConnick is doing a great job.Granted, she only had three solo series but all of them are classic. I have nothing but great things to say about Claremont and Reed's work with the character. Like she's never had a bad solo run as a character, that and the Busiek, Johns and Bendis runs with her as an Avenger weren't bad either. There's so much quality source material available to mine, Hunger Games proved that a female lead can still sell as long as the quality is there and right now she's one of the mot beloved characters that Marvel is pushing out.

Also, is it true that sales are low? I thought it was a success now given that DeConnick is writing yet another volume next year.

I feel like she's got a lot of goodwill going with Marvel because that title serves as the perfect counter-argument to all the criticisms of female portrayals in comics, but yeah...the sales aren't great. Not the worst, but definitely not what would be considered "good," either.

I actually reviewed some sales charts. From the looks of it, it's not selling poorly, it's far from a flop and it's selling better than a lot of established titles but it's not as big as Captain America, Uncanny X-men or Iron Man. However, it's critically well-regarded and sales are stable at around 20,000 per issue.

Considering that this is a character who many decried was ruined forever back in the early 80s, only came back into the spotlight in 1998 and only had a series of her own since 2006 with no film announced yet, I'd call it a success or at the very least, she's a commercially viable character.

they need to beef up her rogues gallery within the books. i don't read DC books but i can name at least 3 of Wonder Woman's enemies.

Every superhero and superheroine needs their own villains and supporting cast. Almost all of Ms. Marvel's have been borrowed.

- Yon-Rogg is Mar-Vell's mortal enemy. They were rivals over the affection of the Kree Medic Una. His rivalry with Carol is secondary.

- Moonstone was an Incredible Hulk villain, turned anti-villain in the Thunderbolts. Her rivalry with Ms. Marvel was very superficial. Essentially, Moonstone was sent by Norman Osborn to take Ms. Marvel out, and Ms. Marvel didn't like Moonstone because she was a supervillain, and she had usurped her identity.

Beyond that, Carol has basically fought villains "because, why not?" In sort of episodic fashion. I'm not saying that makes her a bad character, but she's never really been able to stand on her own as a solo character. That makes her a questionable choice for a solo film. Vision is my favorite Avenger, but I would never want to see a Vision solo movie, because it wouldn't work. I kind of feel the same way about Carol.

Too old...Not to play the character now mind you, but too old to start playing the character in 2017, and play her for 3 phases.

Isn't Ms. Marvel a Pakistani woman from NJ now? So shouldn't someone who looks the part play her instead of all these white women?

Really? Is that what you honestly would like to see or are you just trolling?

Who would pay money to go see that?

I would. Especially since that's the current Ms. Marvel in comics.

Really? Well, i dont like it when they change characters just for the sake of changing stuff. And i think that they are going to use Carol Danvers. No matter how much that it bugs the people who likes to change things.

Since Carol is "Captain Marvel" now, a new young woman has been brought in as "Ms. Marvel". It's as simple as that.

I hope that Carol can be brought into the MCU as soon as possible.

No trolling on my part. I was just asking a simple question regarding the character in the movie and the character in the comics.

I don't understand your shock at people seeing an ethnic Ms. Marvel movie. You might want to consider your biases instead of brushing it off as "changing stuff for the sake of changing stuff".

One thing I remember from reading comics is that the writers are always "changing stuff". The characters and stories told change with the times they are written in.

I wouldn't be opposed to Kamala Khan (that's the new Ms. Marvel's name) showing up in a potential sequel, under three conditions:
1. Her book hasn't come out yet and it has to be good for me to want to see her in a movie.
2. Carol would have to be Captain Marvel in the MCU (which I think is very likely anyway).
3. It would have to be in a sequel, not the first film.

Well, DeConnick is relaunching Captain Marvel (in March I think) and Carol is "going cosmic." I love this idea, I wanted to see Carol in space from the beginning. Maybe she'll make some new enemies out in the depths of space. Also, Carol is joining the GOTG, as is Venom.
