Its true. Kane came up with the name, and thats about it. Finger came up with most everything else. Gotham City? Finger's. Joker? Finger's. The cape and cowl motif? Finger's. If Kane had his way, Batman would have been wearing red tights, with a domino mask, no gloves, and inflexible batwings. There's your dark Batman that was Kane's vision, Wallace. No, sadly most everything we like about Batman was created by Bill Finger, a man who gets credit for creating Green Lantern and Wildcat, but none for creating Batman and Robin. The name Bruce Wayne? Finger's. Robin's origin? Finger's. If Kane had his way there, Robin would have had the same origin as Bruce. Finger convinced Kane to let him be a circus performer with mob related tragedy. Batmobile? Batcave? Both Finger's. There's an artistic device that annoys me, not giving proper credit where its due. *raises the Finger* Still want Batman to be Kane's vision Wallace? I sure as hell don't. I'd prefer him to be Finger's vision if stuck to just one creator. But really I prefer him as an amalgamation of creator's works: Finger's, Kane's, O'Niel's, Adams's, Loeb's, Sale's, Aparo's. For its all the creators that define a character, not just one.

If there is one thing that annoys me it's blatant racism.

But that's a writing device.

nice thread chris, i remember you did a similar one about the content of blue in black suits

i remember saying it may have to do with showing the surface texture to be shiny and smooth rather than rougher or maybe even more metallic.

there's a shot in batman beyond where inque is fighting terry and they are both supposed to be black but they are shaded differently. Inque is shaded with more blue because she is supposed to be more fluid

i think the same occurred with the black spiderman costume to show it is a living continuously flowing entity rather than a 'costume'

Then why is his black cloth suit so often colored the exact same way? Again, my problem in that regard is the overuse and oversaturation of blue. At no time should we ever see something like this.

The blue doesn't make the suit look life-like; it just makes it look blue.

And Captain Useless, the only thing remotely racist about Cage's tiara is the fact that it's symptomatic of black characters having $****y costumes, as so many of them do.

a black costume at night catching the fire and being reflective is bound to have a lot of blue in it.

overuse of grey would make it appear dirty

Reflecting fire would seem to warrant a lot more red and orange than that picture has. That looks much more like a dark blue costume to me.

That's too much damn blue by any standard & he's not that close to the fire. No way an uninitiated person could look at that & not think his costume was blue. Add to that the fact that BP's costume ain't all that reflective.

Oh-and he's not even facing the fire, either. He's between the fire & the viewer, w/the fire in the background. So why so much highlight on the opposite side?
Now this, here, I consider an acceptable amount of blue.

It doesn't overpower the black. My main argument reamins that if I can't tell the difference-visually, not based on any prior knowledge or preconceived notion of the character's look-whether I'm looking at a shaded blue surface or a highlighted black one-then something is definitely wrong.
And THIS is what black reflecting fire looks like.

it's not only the color, it's the texture...

a leather jacket isn't the same texture as a superhero jump suit.

and in that panther bit, the leg which is in the light is completely blue and white, there's a high amount of blue in that pic also

I know full well that a leather jacket isn't the same as a superhero jumpsuit. That's my point. You can't use "reflecting" as an excuse when the surface isn't that reflective. And again-I am not saying "NO BLUE EVER". No more than I would tell an overweight person they can never eat another slice of pizza. Both are fine in moderation & I want the blue highlights moderated.
See this?

This is Daredevil, shaded. Nobody's going to ever think that it's a black suit reflecting red light. Because the distribution & ratio have made this clear. But when I see this-

which is clearly blue, supposedly, it SHOULD NOT have the EXACT SAME black-to-blue ratio as this-

which we're all agreed is supposedly black.

My only point in terms of "Kane's vision" is that I want Batman to be dark & brooding, & have a costume that reflects this. That's all I was saying. I don't like the brightly-colored, happy-go-lucky goofball Batman that keeps rearing his ugly head no matter how many attempts are made to get rid of him.

I wouldn't want that any more than I'd want a grim, menacing Spider-Man or a gentle Punisher.

Kane's vision wouldn't have been dark and brooding though, not without Bill Finger's additions. Forgive me, but bright red with a domino mask isn't very dark to me.

In terms of what I'm talking about, I don't really care who came up with what. I understand you want proper credit given to Finger, but I never did the research on what each person's contribution was. The point I keep trying to make is that, in my eyes, Batman should not be wearing bright blue & cracking jokes. No matter whose idea it was not to introduce him that way.

Inconsistency w/Wolverine's claws.

Bad enough when they're completely different from one panel to the next-this time they're not even consistent in the SAME panel!

It also irritates me how Lee draws the gloves as if they're just painted on the characters hands.

Yeah, but a lot of people do that. I do wish that more artists would distinguish spandex from bodypaint.

Boots shouldn't be drawn looking like spandex either.

The "spray on bodypaint" costume is so dumbassedly ubiquitous I can't even get that angry about it anymore, I'm just appreciative the once in a while someone bothers to draw a costume that behaves sort-of like actual fabric.
