Suicide is not entirely unexpected at 52. There are a lot of reasons someone might want to commit suicide and age rarely factors into them.

It's still speculation at this point and given the sparse details we don't know what led them to think suicide instead of accidental death or natural causes.
Rumours he was found with something tied round his neck.

With that said, I'd find it hard to believe it was suicide. Cornell went through a ****** divorce back in the middle 2000s, drug and drink rehab, depression, etc. If anything, the last few years have been his best - seemed very contented and happy in social media and interviews, successful solo career, devoted kids, successful Soundgarden reunion and a new Soundgarden album/tour in coming months. Seems a weird time to check out after going through a ****ty few years and getting over them. But then again, who knows what goes on in someone's head when they're suicidal.

I just saw Chris play with Soundgarden like 3 weeks ago. Crazy to think that was one of his last performances ever. That band and his voice were huge for me in my early years, so glad I did get to witness that performance before he passed.

It's just been announced officially as a suicide...

Didn't know much about Chris Cornell, other than thinking his Bond theme was one of my favourites of the Craig era.... Horrible news to hear. RIP

RIP Chris Cornell, I've only heard a few of his songs, but You Know My Name is probably my favorite Bond theme, and from what little else I've heard of his work he seemed to be an incredible talent.

Could not believe the news about Chris Cornell. You Know My Name is one of my very favourite Bond themes.

Damn. There are videos of the show Soundgarden played just last night, and you wouldn't even know anything was wrong.

I have to agree. You Know My Name has to be the best Bond theme song for me. I loved Black Hole Sun as a kid and Soundgarden's song for the Avengers soundtrack was great too. Such a shame the way he has died and at his age too.

The only other rock legend I know of to commit suicide was Kurt Cobain.

Both were originally grunge artist.

I haven't seen the video, but my brother was talking to be about it. He said that he looked really strung out and tired. That he simply didn't look right.
