I knew the crew bringing up the Wire was a silly thing to say

it's an all black show. imho, lower viewership was to be expected.

The producers set that expectation so that is on them and they clearly wanted it to be considering some of cast from The Wire is on this show. There's also a nod to Omar Little.

Honestly, I actually got a Wire vibe in the beginning of the series. Just in terms of the set up and build and whatnot.

Well this really means very little, to be honest. Plenty of people who loved the show don't frequent RT. Twitter is a much better indicator and from I've seen, this show is getting just as much buzz and praise as either JJ or DD, if not more.

As I've said already, I think this show is superior to anything Marvel TV has produced yet. The closest competition is DD but Luke Cage wins out for me, as I think both the villains and female characters are second to none. Karen doesn't come close to being as interesting as Misty or LC's interpretation of Claire. Heck, Inspector Ridley was even a standout in her limited screentime. And Fisk is overhyped to me. Yes, he was very good, made for a worthy, intimidating villain. But was he as compelling or charismatic as Cottonmouth? Not at all, IMO. I know Diamondback is a bit more polarizing but I'd personally prefer to watch him over Fisk as well. And I haven't even mentioned Shades or Mariah. Alfre Woodard was phenomenal, as was the writing for her. Yeah, this isn't a competition to me. Luke Cage brought it in a way neither DD or JJ has thus far.

With Hammer tech playing a big role in the first season; do you think they could get Sam Rockwell to play Justin Hammer in season 2? That would be awesome. With the quality of the netflix program that would allow to flex his awesome acting skills. I know it's a bit of a long shot but it would be awesome; even if it's still quite few years away.

I'd certainly like to see them address all that Hammer tech weaponry making its way onto the streets and into the hands of already incredibly dangerous criminals.

Mariah slipped my mind there for a second she's pretty good, but I don't think any of the villains in Luke Cage come close to Kilgrave or Fisk

Rotten Tomatoes isn't a good indicator of how many people are viewing a show. Also there's no reason to expect lower viewership because the show has an all black cast, we've seen too many examples of all black shows with larger viewership.

The show really is The Wire of the MCU, not in terms of quality, but structure. The show is really an ensemble at the end of the day, there are chunks of the show where Luke isn't involved or even important to the story. Also the show makes the setting an actual character. It address the systemic issues that plague Harlem.

The Wire is wildly overrated to me but I could see some similarities between it and LC, particularly in the first half of the season.

Hello! Empire has the best ratings of any drama on network tv.

Indeed. Plus it's not like the entire cast was black anyway.

From what I've heard on the news, the cause of Netflix's website crashing and temporarily going off line this weekend was due to the high volume of viewers watching the LUKE CAGE series. So I don't think that the viewership was low.

The actress that played Mama Mabel is Samuel L.Jackson's wife.

Diamondback seems to be a bit of a controversial character. Some folks enjoyed him and some folks didn't.
Personally I liked his over the top performance.

Jeryn Hogarth is confirmed for Iron Fist so perhaps superheroes attorney at law will debut in that show.

Hammer and Diamondback hamming it up together could be fun. "I don't know if you noticed, but I don't speak Russian!"

I don't think any movie characters have appeared on the Netflix shows yet. If the movie people have no further plans for certain characters like Hammer than I don't see why the Netflix people can't use them. Agent's Of Shield has film characters show up.

To me this show was missing a great villain. None of them were scary, smart, menacing, or even that compelling to me. They weren't bad though

Mariah was decent, kind of your standard two-faced politician type, but still good
My favorite was Cottonmouth

And I agree, Diamondback was wack
I get they were going for the big, theatrical, blaxploitation-style villain, but it was just too much of a departure from the nuanced and layered Stokes and Mariah. Plus the whole cliched connection to Luke.... It literally felt like Diamondback wandered into frame from a totally different show/movie.

My quick review for Luke Cage:

In total, it had a stronger narrative than previous MCU Netflix shows. There was alot less "filler" than both DD and JJ. I think all the villains were just as strong as Kingpin or Killgrave, but in different ways. I might be in the minority of those who like Diamondback, but cause not only was he evil, but he was different than those villains before him (plus I loved that he played "snake-like" considering his name).

All this being said, in total, it was an awesome show, unfortunately, it didn't quite stick the landing w/the last episode, but it wasn't terrible.

Frankly, as a black man, it was a pleasure to see a quality super hero show with a black hero who isn't "the sidekick" or "magical negro".

I give the show 4 & 1/2 stars out of 5. Just as good as it's predecessors.

I watched the first episode and I don't really think I'll go forward. That episode was mainly just people talking while sitting or standing. It was so damn slow. Is this what the rest of the show is?

It picks up in episode 3 and episode 2 is pretty good.
