I'm pissed that we will only be getting Spidey in team packs and nothing single. This gets me so angry.

Considering the regular 6inch toys haven't hit shelves yet, not anytime soon

Me too!

But it's not just that it's a three pack that gets me, it's that it's a three pack with Iron Man and Captain America, two figures you have to get duplicates of if you already bought them separately (and most likely you did) for no reason whatsoever.

Now if it was a three pack of Vision, CW Ant-man and Spidey, I would LOVE that!

I've been saying from the beginning that the delay explanation is why there was no Spider-Man merch on the shelves in time for the film (and I was correct; all the stuff we're seeing now isn't out yet), but that alone doesn't really explain why these companies are seemingly barred from doing solo releases for his products.

We know Sony gave up all the merchandising rights a while back, but by necessity merchandising stuff was likely renegotiated when the new contracts were made up. It's possible that like Marvel Toy News suggested, Sony was able to get a partial stake in merchandise sales.

Disney would not negotiate back any merchandise rights to SM especially when they aren't getting money from the SM solo. It makes no fiscal sense particularly for a studio that has a huge eye toward merchandising tie ins when they develop their film slate. Sony is already heavily profiting from having SM in CW, via the publicity and rejuvenation for the franchise. They were the ones that desperately needed this deal, not Disney.

Sony though had a say in the look of the character on film which is part of their license, even a say in how his apt looked and what Aunt May wore. The development of the costume therefor required their OK and the designer said it was the last one she made and had by far the shortest amount of time to make it and I think she was doing it while they were filming. So there was no lead time for manufacturers to make items using the new costume.

As to why they're pairing up SM merch, they're using their solo best seller to sell more expensive combo packages and maybe move some merchandise (like Hawkeye) that might not be selling well on it's own.

Yeah, the merchandise deal bites, but I think it's a fine compromise for getting Spidey in the MCU. They'll be plenty of Spidey merchandise later on. Its not like they're not going to make toys of the most profitable licensed superhero.
This is just the price we gotta pay to get a great new Spidey in the MCU.

I dont know whats taking so long for the release of these figures. The Marvel Legends should have been out. I remember I got the WS figures before the movie was even out....at this rate Suicide Squad figures will be hitting shelves before the CW figures do

That would be a rather odd caveat. She didn't say they didn't want to release it separately, she said the only way they could do so was in combo sets. That would imply it's an order down from on high, and Marvel saying "We won't make any Spider-Man stuff unless it's with other heroes" sounds like it'd be a silly restriction to impose on themselves, especially when as you've said, they're a company with a keen eye towards merchandise. Particularly when it's not just lesser known or less popular characters like Hawkeye. They have him paired up with Cap and Iron Man who I'm sure were selling just fine on their own. And even with Hawkeye I can't imagine that he'd be such an abysmally poor seller that there's no way they could release him without Spider-Man to act as a buffer.

Until someone else says something contradict it, I'm going to go with what the Funko rep herself said.

Yeah not having the Hasbro 6 inchers out yet is ticking me off. I saw a BOX of a 6" Cap on a motor cycle in the trash that was clearly marked Civil War but I'm not sure what store it came from

Bought the "Art of" book, and it is stunning. Having collecting all of the books for each of the movies, I have to say that this is one of my favorites.

I want to get it as well. Glad you liked it so much.

So far I only have an "Art of" book for The Dark Knight and Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens but this might be the 3rd time I do this. With those two films I created memorabilia collections by saving the original movie ticket and getting a poster, the blu-ray, the soundtrack and the art of book.

I'm amazed at the popularity of all the bigheaded stuff over the years. I'm hoping to see SHFigureArts come out with CW stuff...
