I thought Cavill was solid in The Tudors and Tristan & Isolde.

Cavill didn't go to drama school or started as a child actor so his spent his career learning on the job but he has improved over time. Cavill hasn't really had that many good roles to show off any acting skills to be fair.

He's not bad at all. I think he'll do much better than Routh or Welling did.

Other than The Tudors, where I thought he was very good, the only other thing I've seen him in was The Count of Monte Cristo. It's been years since I've seen it, but at the time I thought he was very good. That being said, Superman is a completely different role. I respect that most of his research has been in comics and not movies/TV. I'm interested to see his take based on that.

That definately was the case with Avatar. Reactions on Twitter were extremely positive and Fox decided to lift the embargo pretty early on.

My one year old daughter would play a more convincing Clark/Superman than Tom Welling.

I thought he was good on Tudors and passable in Immortals. But I guess I'm not expecting stellar acting as long as he's fairly believable and has more lines than Routh.

Welling has his fans. As does Routh. As does Cavill.

I liked Welling and Smallville in the beginning. I thought he and Rosenbaum had great chemistry as buddies.

Welling was alright for a guy who went from Modeling to being actor in a short space of time and no training.

To be fair to him he was on the CW which is has a soap opera style on alot of their shows and most of the people on those shows are hired for looks and not acting ability.

The first couple of seasons are Smallville are actually really good. Then it started going downhill. I couldn't watch anymore after episode 100, It got to a point though where the Lana character and Welling's acting were too much for me to handle. I hear the last two seasons are quite fun, but I just can't subject myself to it again.

Yeah, same here. First couple of seasons. A looong time ago. I had lost interest when Lex finally turned bad and they started introducing random and poorly executed DC-characters.

Smallville always struck me as being better suited following the UK model, i.e. two-three seasons (four... maybe), six episodes per season. Little to no room for flab.

People always have ago at Smallville but it doesn't deserve the crap it gets, people always say it got worse as it got on but the best season by far was Season 9

Smallville should have ended after season 4. Everything after that just got silly and stupid. Turning Lana into a witch was pretty damn dumb...and if you didn't know that happened tough....don't gripe about spoiler tags for an episode that happened years ago ;-)

All those shots of characters staring at each other in Smallville was annoying.

I think the absolute high point of the show for me was when Clark's X-Ray vision kicked in. The clip is online here.. http://www.thewb.com/shows/smallville/clip-xray-vision/31ebfd93aa
But god, Welling's acting is still bad.

Definitely. I got out of it pretty early because of that "freak of the week" shtick but jumped back on for season 9 -- it was quite good. The season finale was excellent.

Was that before or after Clark got his red raincoat?

I feel like I got cheated on the series finale. I didn't get to watch the entire series as it aired due to other things going on but I have seen it in it's entirety and there were a few shiny moments past season 4 but not many...I was really let down by the series finale. Not just because Superman was basically cgi but they made Darkseid out to be a *****...I mean really? Just fly into him and he's done??? Pretty weak...

Young Joaquin Phoenix from Superboy would not of liked the Smallville ending
